Remember all those reports about the GM not liking Harbaugh at all?

I read his wife nixed the deal.

He seems to be a very good coach. A massive dickhead, but a very good coach.

Which means they would have been squaring off at least twice per year, and competing directly for division titles and/or wild-card positioning.

Um, well... since one would be coaching the Browns...

I bet the 49ers were pissed. This sounds like the Herschel Walker deal. A bunch of picks for...a coach?

Was he going to play QB for them? Then he wasn't going to make that big a difference.

A coach that can't get over the hump, at that.

Word was this season that while Balke and Harbaugh aren't exactly inviting each other to BBQs, they had a good working relationship. Guess not.

My brownies seem to be involved in a soap opera story every week.

With that said - Pettine and Farmer seem to be about business.

Still they have to do something with two first round picks - and no matter what that is - I am still worried :-)

Hell, Clevland fans would fall all over themselves to have the Marty Schottenheimer days back. He never did get over the hump, but that was nothing more than bad luck. If Elway doesn't pull off a miracle, if Byner doesn't fumble, they might have been the Super Bowl winning Cleveland Browns. My sense, much as I hate to say it, is that Harbaugh will get over the hump sooner or later. Or perhaps he may not. It does happen.

it's delightful. they listed everything they think is wrong with the Niners in comparison to the SeaHawks, and then the calls came in and the fans think Harbaugh should go.

I laughed.

Why would they get rid of him? Stupid rumor.

Errk: Denial

http://www.mercurynews.com/49ers/ci_25201852/report-49ers-considered -t rading-harbaugh-draft-picks

York, in a Twitter post, said: "Report isn't true."

That's not a denial.  If you want to get into semantics, the report says the trade was for "multiple draft picks."  But it did not say anything about cash.  Cash could have been involved (like in the Gruden trade), and technically Jed York would be correct, since it's not true that the trade would have been for draft picks.

I'm not saying that's the reason, but I am saying there could be a little technicality that would make saying "Report isn't true" technically correct.

I think if they can't get Manziel or Bridgewater (not completely sold on Bortles yet), they should, instead of trading out, take Sammy Watkins, and then see if his QB Tajh Boyd slides to their other 1st round pick.  Heck, with Watkins on one side and Gordon on the other and Cameron over the middle, even Brandon Weeden might look good in the QB slot.

/Wow, got that out with a straight face. I'm impressed with myself.

Since news sources tend to be lazy and not cite the whole conversations, here's the full thing from Twitter:  http://kissingsuzykolber.uproxx.com/2014/02/mike-florio-ya-burnt.html

What was the source for this story? The Onion? While it might have been fun to see the Harbaugh brothers face off twice a year, every year, no one traded coaches.

Why the hell would the Niners need EVEN MORE draft picks, anyways? Don't they have something like 11 picks already, with more possible?

sounds like the Bay Area media is just like Harbaugh then

This was an idiotic rumor. It would've been much more idiotic if it were to actually happen... it would've hurt both teams significantly (gutting picks for Cleveland, getting rid of the guy who largely turned around the 49ers).

Just because you weren't paying attention, it doesn't mean it didn't happen.  It was a minor news story during the season.  If this is even partially true, exactly how well will the 49ers work in the future?  The whole GM/coach thing is pretty important.

so already you've got a lame-duck HC in Cleveland, and now you've got a lame-duck HC in San Francisco?

as much as people are ragging on Harbaugh for being simplistic and douchey, the dude also got his team to play the Seahawks strength vs. strength and still almost win, that's not very easy... i do think the guy gets the blame for the super bowl loss tho

i guess the question is from a management perspective if you don't like him you're up shiat creek... who is going to replace him? and do you really want a wasted year on your most loaded draft class ever?

Picks or money or both to swipe a HC *can* work. Including multiple picks and lots of cash changing hands.

Belichek, Shula, and Gruden were all bought from their teams by up-and-comers and won Super Bowl hardware on their new franchises.

You don't have to LIKE any of them. But those three coaches have something like 6 or 7 SB rings amongst them. That ain't counting appearances in the big dance that they didn't win.

You take a franchise that hasn't won in a while and  the realistic possibility of just being over .500 consistently might be worth a first rounder.

From the sounds of it, the GM's not really concerned about such things.  He, like most of America, just doesn't like the guy.  He's apparently hard to work with and grinds everyone down.  As fans, we only get a small percentage of that on gameday.

So, the GM will probably find a way to freeze Harbaugh out, then he'll go somewhere else.  They'll probably bring in a college coach or try to lure a Seahawks coach over.  The 49ers will then fall into mediocrity, the GM will get fired, and Harbaugh will struggle with his new team, because he didn't have a GM that could bring in decent talent.
