Isn't she the one in the anti-Hagen ads in NC?

What a horrible both sides are bad POS article.

If the midterms are any indication 2016 is going to be awful. You cannot watch the local channels for an hour without at least 2 anti-Hagen spots paid for by the Koch brothers. Every channel. Local sporting events that cost even more per commercial are double that. It's kind of frightening how much money is being thrown at it before we have even had a primary. It is really turning into the disgusting shiat show everyone predicted after citizens united.

Last week the Republican National Committee chairman was using the latest news about Hillary Clinton as an organizing tool.

What is the "latest news" about Hillary? Did I miss something?

I'm a little worried. In my adult entire life, I've never been on the losing side of a presidential election - the person I wanted to win has always won. I don't want to know what losing feels like, but I assume it will have to happen eventually.

Indeed. I imagine there are quite a few people who picked Bush over Kerry, then Obama over McCain and Romney. A lot of Democrats seem to forget how bad the Kerry campaign was.

So you voted for G.W.B. the sequel or didn't vote in 2004? Both options kind of suck.

anyone crazy enough to get through the GOP primary process will win the solid south, wyoming, nebraska, the dakotas, and texas. maybe montana and arizona. that's about it.

the dem's could run bozo (again har har har) and still achieve an electoral victory

This is nonsense, we need to stop insulting Kerry. He ran a fine campaign.

People seem to be projecting backwards in time about how much Bush was hated. In the 2004 election, Bush was still popular. His approval rating was consistently above 50% in 2004. The fundamentals showed him winning by a good margin; that's what happens when you have good personal approval ratings and a good economy. Kerry actually finished closer than the economic fundamentals predicted he should have.

It's true that his campaign wasn't very effective.
That said, I think that the alternative should have been repulsive enough to put him in office.
It very nearly was.

That's where I fall.  In 2004, most of us didn't know how bad a clusterfark Iraq was going to be.

Saw one repeating political attack ad last weekend while out of town.

It was attacking the Democratic candidate by connecting her to Obamacare. And it made shameless use of ancient and widely debunked bullshiat about Obama making "cuts" to medicare and all the jobs that the CBO report said that were going to be "lost".

It made me feel certain of two things. Cutting the cord and giving up cable was the best choice. The escape from political ads is a wondrous bonus.

And I will absolutely never consider voting for a Republican again in my entire life. The party and all it's supporters who tell these same shameless lies again and again can go to hell. The party that is actively backing hatefilled legislation against gays in various states can rot. And everyone who votes for them can join them.

I didn't come around until about 2010, and voted Obama in 2012. I'm 31, and I'd rather not think about my shameful voting history. Though, living in AZ it wouldn't have mattered anyway.

This is how I console myself as well. I've only ever voted in CA or NY, so it doesn't matter much.

This really is horrifying.  We essentially have 3 years of campaign shiatgarble to endure now.  By 2016 the entire country will be drunk, stoned and on prescription meds just to deal with insanity.  More so than usual.

It's not an insult, or at least it's not intended as one. Kerry's campaign made several mistakes, including the same one that Mitt Romney made 8 years later; he failed to articulate a vision other than "I'm not that guy."

Maybe, but that's a very tall task. It's just very hard to beat an incumbent who is popular and has a good economy. The failure to do so is not shameful.

I wonder how different Kerry's legacy would be if we had had 538 back then, and it showed Bush as a 90% favorite the entire way.

Kerry was up against a sitting President with high approval numbers. During a war. He was mostly doomed from the start.

I hope there are more debates... Like, 3 times a week. And I want them to last 8-10 hours at a time. I want to see what these people are like sleep-deprived and near unconsciousness to see what really makes them tick.
