HexMadroom: Rickenbacker: Manism582: Rickenbacker: Manism582: I grew up in Mt. Vernon,

I'm sorry.

/I keed, I keed.  Not much different here a couple hours north of Mt. Vernon

There's a reason I moved away for college and didn't go back...

And apparently moved far enough not to get sucked back in!  My mistake was not getting far enough away.  It's like a whirlpool.

Someone mentioned Illinois gun laws.  Concealed carry is legal, as of July 2013.

the law prohibiting concealed carry is gone, but as far as I know, the new necessary classes to qualify for concealed carry didn't start until Jan, and are still in session, so no new Illinois concealed carriers yet.

Legal ones anyway!

Persnickety: If we didn't have all these stupid knife control laws, a good guy with a knife would have been able to stop him.

Actually, knife control laws are draconian. You can't get a permit to carry a knife.
And nobody does anything about it - guess the NRA doesn't think they qualify as "arms". Of course, they aren't a billion dollar, lobbying industry, either.

Bermuda59: abhorrent1: So when do we ban knives?

Don't forget fruit. What if someone came at you with a banana?

Or several fruits, perhaps in a candy-like format in some sort of bag.

Just because I carry a firearm, it doesnt mean that I'm in the mood to use it, or that you're worth the price of a bullet.
It's about STYLE, not about the weapon.

Don't they already ban knives of a certain make and length?

Speak for yourself, Junior.  I'm a Colt man, actually.  My point was that you don't need  a nuke when a piano wire will do.  But it appears that most things need to be explained to you on a regular basis because of your family history of inbreeding.

This is why we must ban...umm...aaa...wait.

You mean a gun rights organization doesn't care about other types of weapons?

Those *assholes*!

One death equals three murder charges?  Maybe the victim was revived twice before finally kicking it for good?

My Kentucky-issue concealed weapons permit allows me to legally carry a concealed knife.

I may also legally carry a concealed death star, though how I would conceal an orbital battle station with enough firepower to destroy an entire planet is unknown to me.

I, for one, want to see the 2nd Amendment expanded to cover swords and warhammers and spears and other weapons.

It would have been better if it was a gun death at a stabbing club.

Hear hear.
It does say "arms" and not "guns". It was their way of future proofing the law.

/and the whole brass knuckles and switchblade thing is just stupid.
/yea, gangs will never think of a carrying a fixed blade knife for faster deployment....

There are people making that argument, that at a minimum it should at least cover knives and the like. Also, that it should cover less-lethal stuff like stun guns and pepper spray. So far, the Supreme Court hasn't taken a Second Amendment case that doesn't involve firearms, but eventually they'll have to take one.
