Ah, Bill Hicks. Smug, whiny, self-serving, consummately unfunny.  We have the "truth-teller" comics like him, George Carlin, and Dennis Leary (both also terrible) to thank for people like Joe "I bemoan the stupidity of our culture while hosting Fear Factor" Rogan.

Bill Hicks is the guy you briefly idolize when you are a naive 19 year old who is stoned out of his mind 18 hours a day.  Eventually you start to think and act like an actual adult, and grow out of him.  At least some of us do.

I always thought it would be neat if TotalFark allowed you to see how many people had put you on "Ignore" and how many on "Favorited" (Along with their comments, because some people use it as a way to identify their nemeses)

I can see how that might turn into a contest... but that's why the feature would be limited to TotalFarkers, since they are paying their monthly tithe to Drew.

I've thought something similar. It might be fun to have something like Amnesty Day where every farker gets to see how they've been farkied, and then poof, all the farkies disappear and no one can farkie anything for two weeks.

(Mainly I think it would be depressing and sad)

I saw the tape he refers to in the video. It was passed around in the wake of Waco and yeah what he says it shows is there with a lot more. It has all the jump cuts of video that were removed from any publicly aired footage that showed all the aggressive actions of the ATF and were subsequently blamed on the cultists which easily destroys the media's narrative on the matter. Have whatever douchy opinion you want about Hicks, his anger burned like fire and will remembered until our species ends. What does your anger burn like and who will remember you?

It's funny, that's not how I picture Bill Hicks at all whenever I hear him... He'shiat and miss, some of his stuff is great, and other stuff, well, other stuff isn't.

THis one is under the "other stuff" category. Not only was it not funny, it wasn't really noteworthy in any way. I don't understand why it was posted to The Guardian site in the first place, how it got the Green on fark in the second place, and it REALLY confuses me how subby sees this particular clip as "Cool" in the third place.

Oh well, like I said, I've heard funny stuff by Hicks, so I'm not like the dude up top with the big long list of people who have hurt his feelings on Fark, but this isn't one of those clips.

I'm kinda bummed that I'm not on it.  I feel like I haven't worked hard enough at being human garbage.  I mean, I try.  But what can you do?  I suppose I could try white knighting in the next Justin Beiber threat.  That might bump me up past the guy who dissed Prince in a threat about his personal glyph.  Or the other dude who got yelled at in a Mila Kunis thread for pointing out that picture of her with big boobies was an obvious fake.  But I dunno.  That's some pretty stiff competition.

I'm pretty sure that doesn't make you human garbage. It's probably a list of people he thinks have an abhorrent stance on something, like gay/women's rights, abortion, or gun control. I don't know any of the people on the list, however, so I can't tell you whether the list is made up of liberals or conservatives.

Truth be told, unfortunately, the right-wing wackos (not the right wing, the right wing wackos, there is a small difference) had been waiting for this to happen. Heck, he (Koresh) had been talking about the day the government would come for them for quite a while. This is kind of like Heaven's Gate cult psychology, these people 'knew' what was going to happen next through their prophet. They just had to go through the motions to make it happen. Jim Jones used a similar psychological technique.

The difference with these wackos is that it doesn't matter much if the state DNR, local police SWAT, or FedGov shows up: they go derp. Heck, they want to go derp, it's prophetic (whether that prophecy is from 'Jesus' or Turner Diaries), and prophecy must be fulfilled. Janet Reno could have left it up to local SWAT and it would've ended close to the same (if not exactly the same) because these people want the martyrdom. I don't envy negotiating with people whose whole ideology says that they will die at the hands of the enemy in glorious martyrdom. You can't negotiate with someone who believes that their death is required by their beliefs.

This is why Muslim Homicide Bombers (a better term, I agree) are usually incapable of being bargained with. Their whole belief system has been twisted by the cult leader for just one task: die killing the enemy. Granted, the Abrahamic religions are pretty bloody so it makes the twisting that much easier.

from Wikipedia
The Branch Davidians were well armed with small arms, possessing 305 total firearms, including numerous rifles (semi-automatic AK-47s and AR-15s), shotguns, revolvers and pistols; 2 .50 caliber weapons with armor-piercing ammunition, and 46 semi-automatic firearms modified to fire in full automatic mode (included on above list): 22 M16, 20 AK-47, 2 HK SP-89, 2 M-11/Nine (Texas Rangers do not report the M16s but report "at least 16 AR-15 rifles,"[65] the AR-15 being a semi-automatic version of the M16); 2 AR-15 lower receivers also modified to fire in full automatic mode; 39 "full auto sears" devices used to convert semi-automatic weapons into automatic weapons; parts for fully automatic AK-47 and M16 rifles; 30-round magazines and 100-round magazines for M16 and AK-47 rifles; pouches to carry large ammunition magazines; substantial quantities of ammunition of various sizes.

Other items found at the compound included about 1.9 million rounds of "cooked off" ammunition; grenade launcher parts; flare launchers; gas masks and chemical warfare suits; night vision equipment; hundreds of practice hand grenade hulls and components (including 200+ inert M31 practice rifle grenades, 100+ modified M-21 practice hand grenade bodies, 219 grenade safety pins and 243 grenade safety levers found after the fire); Kevlar helmets and bulletproof vests; 88 lower receivers for the AR-15 rifle; and approximately 15 sound suppressors or silencers, Texas Rangers report that at least six items had been mislabeled and were actually 40mm grenades or flash bang grenades from manufacturers who sold those models to the ATF or FBI exclusively; former Branch Davidian Donald Bunds testified he had manufactured silencers under direct orders of Koresh). The ATF knew that the Branch Davidians had a pair of .50 caliber rifles, so they asked for Bradley armored vehicles, which could resist that caliber. During the siege, Koresh said that he had weapons bigger than .50 rifles and that he could destroy the Bradleys, so they were supplemented with two Abrams tanks and five M728 vehicles.

Still think they weren't looking to make a last stand, no matter what? Trying to take them alive is what took time. I'm personally shocked Davy didn't 'go nuclear' sooner. Koresh kept escalating because (as a nutjob prophet) he needed the prophecy fulfilled.

And they were so crazy Koresh would go into Waco for groceries.  If they had wanted him, they could have arrested him in town, or gone to the door with two sheriff's deputies.  Trying an ATF raid and crawling in through a window played into all their conspiracy fantasies.  It was handled completely wrong and a lot of people ended up dead because of it.  Unfortunately the idiots that thought with their balls instead of their brains never had to face up to their culpability.

devilEther: I've learned that in an interview with Modern Drummer (10/93), Danny Carey stated L. Ron Hubbard is the subject of the song.

Aenema came out in 96.

Oh, what the christ, feel free to edit the wikipedia page. The song can be about whoever you like, but again, Maynard seems really hateful toward the guy he's singing about, so it wouldn't make sense it's about Bill Hicks, with whom Maynard was friendly.

At work so can't watch, but did he happen to mention that the Waco siege didn't take place in Waco?
