TheSwissNavy: Common Core is like Scientology, its a money-making cult. And it is pretty messed up.
Onkel Buck: Common core? Thats where 2+2=potato but as long as you get the concept you pass? Cant wait til these kids become engineers, their structures will be unsound but their self esteem will be intact
generallyso: FTA And he said the program uses "fuzzy math,'' substituting letters for numbers in some examples.Could we send homo sapiens back to the drawing board?
wxboy: You know what? If corporate executives and business groups are for it, maybe Common Core isn't that great.
Jim_Callahan: Business leaders are in favor of common core because you train employees using written materials so they really need the work-force to be functionally literate.
notto: wxboy:You know what? If corporate executives and business groups are for it, maybe Common Core isn't that great.Yeah, just like increases in STEM education! If they are for it, maybe we should be against it!
vernonFL: Teaching Al-Gebra is the first step towards Sharia Law.
Mjeck: "some of the reading material is borderline pornographic.''Can someone explain to me how common core can be perceived as porn?
Wendy's Chili: Gee, I wonder what party he belongs to. Both sides are bad, after all.
Grungehamster: Jim_Callahan: Business leaders are in favor of common core because you train employees using written materials so they really need the work-force to be functionally literate.Ironically, the people who demand that you must be fluent in English if you want to live in America are deeply offended that schools would force you to learn how to be literate.

quantum_csc: I literally almost punched my monitor when reading the "fuzzy math" paragraph. Then I remembered that the future survival of both republicans and the religious depend upon an uneducated populace with zero critical thinking skills. When my state adopted the common core I noticed that some of my kids's homework was easier, and some was more difficult. I like that it forces more reading into math for elementary students. One thing that hasn't changed with the common core; I am still able to teach concepts to my children that I think are important and give them a leg up over their peers (such as more advanced math concepts, higher level physical science, and critical/logical thinking).
