I don't wish to alarm anyone, but if you've had chickenpox, the shingles virus is ALREADY INSIDE YOU!

True, however when Larry King filled in it was even better.

You really don't want to get shingles.  It sucks worse than NBC's Olympic coverage.

I thought the show he used to have on Fox Sports (Keith Olbermann Evening News or some such title) was really good. His current ESPN show Is excellent, but he still comes across as pretty angry at times. Much less bombastic than his political stuff, of course.
From what I've heard, shingles is pretty damn painful. Bummer for him.

Seconded. I had it a couple years ago. Always shows up at the worst time too (stress is a factor in it occurring).

The only times I've seen the "angry" Olbermann was the Hall of Fame stuff and anything on A-Rod.  He really does not like A-Rod

I can't imagine what child birthing is like, but I can guaran-god-damn-tee shingles is the single most painful thing i have ever felt in my life!!  I had a 6" x 12" area that wrapped around my right side and for the better part of three weeks it felt like a the whole area was just being penetrated constantly by sewing needles....just constant, violent, stinging pain...that shiat is nasty

/if military leaders could figure out a way to infect its enemy with the shingles virus, they would be brought up on charges of crimes against humanity

Yeah, I don't watch too often... but I wouldn't classify him as angry on this particular show.

Snarky, yes... but that's what you sign up for if you watch his show.

That's too bad. Metal roofing has a much longer useful life and much lower amortized cost over that useful life than that case of shingles.  Bulk discount or not, you shoulda gone for a case of the metal, Keith.

I'm still on Season 2 at the farm.

I've had it too and it's as farking terrible as they say.  The virus is attached to your nerve endings so the pain is... direct.  I imagine I know what it feels like to have your face on fire.

2014-02-20 06:48:18 PM
Had it in 1991 when I was 23. Thought it was back zits... boy was I wrong. Holy SHIATBALLS was that horrible. I was terribly depressed at the time and I guess my immune system took a brief vacation. Wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Seriously. The only thing that compared pain-wise was getting pepper sprayed in the police academy. But that only lasted for a few hours. My shingles lasted for weeks. Then the neuropathic pain afterward... ho boy.

A buddy got em as he was going through a divorce. Thought they were spider bites. He mentioned it to me and showed me his back. I said, "Sorry buddy- you're in for a world of hurt."

Shingles can DIAF.

Shingles is no joke; wouldn't wish it upon anyone. Not looking forward to stressing out enough to activate it one day.

mikaloyd: The stink of divisive politics never washes off of a "journalist" it follows them forever. Fark Olberman.

Olberman is a tool. When John McCain said he knew how to deal with terrorists (as in a solution), Olberman was deliberately trying to make it appear like John McCain was either holding back the solution for some reason, or lying.

What did you expect, Olberman? For McCain to just dance in and take the reins of commander-in-chief from the then-sitting POTUS and show him how its done right on the spot?

Or would you have rather he prove that he knew how to do it by spelling out on broadcast TV every action he would do once president, so the terrorists would have our playbook?

Christ what an asshole. He is in Ben Affleck Alec Baldwin territory of dickage

I wonder how the chicken pox vaccine will impact whether people get shingles in later life. I am curious to know if you can get shingles after having been exposed to the vaccine.

Fourthed. Was about 12 years ago for me. Started on the back of my neck and followed the nerve down my left arm. Was out of work for 10 days, and not allowed out of the records room for another 10 when I got back (worked in a medical office at the time, I was basically quarantined). Really do not want to get it again.

I think I remember reading or hearing that once you get it, the odds of getting it again go up? Is there any truth to that, or just old wives' tale?

I think it is just that certain people have a greater propensity to have outbreaks.

Fortunately the Shingles vaccine is relatively effective.

Trigeminal nerve. That's where I got it to. I hear it gets a lot worse as you get older and I was only 29. Just felt like a *really* persistent ache across half my face and forehead. Being a nervous condition it really respects the midline.

Two weeks of antibiotics cleared it right up without too much trouble. I hear it's really dibilitating if you get it closer to 50 though. That would have sucked.

Disregarding whether or not you like his politics, Keith Olbermann is a wonderful sports guy. So is Bob Costas.

Skip Bayless and SAS on the other hand... are sniveling jackasses. They'll live to be 110.
