Cool interview.

Holy sh*t. That was amazing.

I can't even imagine what City Gardens must have been like.

Excellent find,  subby!

I like the idea of Jon Stewart crouched behind the bar with a gun.

2014-02-20 10:47:14 AM
I needed to GIS both of them to remind myself if the image of "Martha Quinn on Stiv Bators' lap, basically Zamboni-ing the inside of his mouth" would have been hot at the time.

I'm pretty sure the answer is "no."

Rev.K:

I can't even imagine what City Gardens must have been like.

It was a farking zoo. Getting in and out of there was an odyssey for a small-town kid.

Oh, Calhoun Street in Trenton, how I really don't miss you.

Martha Quinn was an angel sent to us by God to show us Heaven in the form of New Wave music videos.

Wow. It's like the Action Park of nightclubs. You're guaranteed to get injured there.

Is there any recreational area in New Jersey that's not totally unsafe?

Martha Quinn lived up the street from my mother and apparently held me once when I was a baby.

Gilman Street Warehouse was exactly like this for the San Francisco scene.
Just like Jon Stewart, a lot of people were inspired by the environment. Its amazing how hard it is to find someone that survived those years as street punks that isn't extremely far advanced in whatever career field they chose to take in life afterward, be it art, science, business, medicine, whatever.

FTFA: And Gibby just started, like, lighting shiat on fire. If you remember that place, it was basically, like, a box filled with wall insulation. Like, that's what its inside was: wall insulation painted black. Probably painted black with Napalm. It was the most flammable place you could possibly light.

I was going to give you a 2/10 for such obviousness but you got 8 hits in 5 minutes which places you at a solid 7/10.  Well done sir.  Shame on the rest of you however.

His standup i am not familiar with, and he may very well have been a very bad comedian as a stand up, but his work on TDS is brilliant, insightful and full of dead on comedic timing...you on the other hand, sound like a failed comedian with an axe to grind.

The Stiv/Martha Quinn thing was the cause of much gnashing of teeth and rending of garments as I recall. But a part of me recognized that I had clearly underestimated the man.

I would of paid good money to see an early 80's bad Brains show.   I was too young when that scene was happening.

I would attend those type of shows in Baltimore or the old 9:30 club in DC, but I was more of a stand on the side of the crowd guys.  I could never beleive the guys that would go out into the pit with no shoes on.

The thing is, I think every city in the 80s and 90s had a bar or club like this, and I'm sure the stories are pretty much the same (and worse).

You left off the Larry Sanders show. Adolf Hankler was brilliant and JS was pretty good in it.

I'm quite unfamiliar with punk bands. But oh yes, I crushed hard on Martha Quinn. Last I saw, she hasn't gotten any less cute.

It would be hilarious if  gfidwas actually Jon Stewart.

We had the 9:30 club in DC, and Memory Lane in Baltimore. I think you can sub out black and white photos of punk clubs from across the country and they would all be very similar. Same bands, same looking crowds, same assholes mistaking fighting for having fun in the audience.
