Will somebody please drive a dump truck full of money up to Bethesda's front door so they can get started on Fallout 4?

"The readings were detected two weeks after a truck hauling salt in an underground mine at the site caught fire, shuttering operations for a few days. Officials said that fire was in an area separate from where nuclear waste is stored."

I don't know about you, but maintaining an active mining operation in the same mine as you're storing nuclear weapons production waste seems a bit foolhardy - but that's just me

"How huge?"

"We could almost not detect it!"

An early descriptor for the first nuclear reactor was "pile".

I think the authorities need to admit that stacking radioactive materials in an enclosed space might be described as a pile.

If it's a nuclear waste dump... is the release of radiation REALLY that "unexplained?" I can spitball a pretty good explanation.

Bummer. WIPP has an excellent track recod, and I'd hate for any minor blip to set back the potential for deep geologic storage of nuclear waste in this country. Of course, we've already completely blown our own commitment by decades, so who even knows at this point...

I thought the Cazadores were a nice touch. I mean why have one unstoppable killing machine in the Death Claws when you can have two, and one of them flies.

Maybe the next one we can get Leviathans, giant tentacled Kraken like beasts just lurking in the water.

You guys must have been a hoot in the Fukushima threads and we all know how that is continuing to play out.

So tell me, what is the safe level of airborne plutonium particle exposure? Make it easy for me and translate it into how many bananas and smoke detectors I'll need to wrap around myself.

2 people died, 1 person got exposed to enough radiation to slightly increase his risk of getting cancer at some point in the future, a bunch of people were evacuated, mostly voluntarily and Japan is spending a bunch of money to decommission a nuclear facility and make the area safe again.

The point isn't that it's absolutely no problem, just that so far as industrial accidents go it wouldn't have made more than a ripple in international news if not for the word nuclear... and definitely not in the wake of an earthquake and tsunami that killed over 15,000 people.

Ingesting even small amounts of plutonium will kill you, but not because it's radioactive, the good news is that it doesn't stay airborne for long.  It's really no more dangerous than a whole variety of industrial chemicals we use routinely and treat with a lot less care.

Let's not forget the ~1,600 who've died as a result of the permanent radiological evacuation, in the Fukushima prefecture.

By the end of its patching the Skyrim engine got pretty darn performant for sure, but its high time Bethesda drop the XP32bit support and make a genuine 64bit engine.  The biggest reason is both their world design team and the modding community are held back severely by their games' memory intensive nature to begin with and once you start piling on the mods its too easy to max out within the 32bit address space.  They could also take advantage of DX10 at the same time and really start to put the DX9/XP32 combo into its tomb where it belongs.

Small annoyance about the Skyrim engine is how its shadows component had a roof of resources it could use which was oddly screen resolution bound.  IE exact same high-end settings for shadows playing at 1920x1080 which looked great would look like crap in 5760x1080, all blocky & stuff.

I guess that means what you mean by 'soon'.  It's not like a video game company would ever let one of it's most popular franchises languish for over a decade while fans are clamoring for a sequel.  *cough* Valve *cough*
