The official response to the Nuge's disgustingly racist comments is more racism.

There's nothing racist about what he said.  Stupid, yes.  But not racist.  He simply said he doesn't hang out with celebrities like the president.  That celebrity happens to be black.  If you aren't trolling, you are doing a good job of playing onto the GOP stereotype of democrats seeing racism everywhere, even where there is none.

Cruz is not stupid.  No one on either side things he is.  He is about as sharp as them come.  The Jay-Z visit to the White House is biggest farking dog whistle to other racists ever.   First of all Jay Z is not a rock star.  There have been many actual rock stars (Sheryl Crow off the top of my head) that have visited the White House.

This wasn't an off handed comment.  This was a comment following a question regarding an incredibly racist comment by Nugent and the response is a racist dog whistle for his followers.

I'm not saying Cruz is a racist but if he is willing to appeal to the racist sentiment he is just as bad or worse.  So fark, he's a racist pig as far as I'm concerned.

When it was pointed out that Jay-Z doesn't do the wacky shait that Ted does, his default was that some actor or musician must have somewhere so that makes his association OK.

Eh.  I wouldn't call Sheryl Crow a rock star either.  I get your point about the dog whistle.  I just don't think it really applies to this comment.  He was asked a question, and my guess is that in the spot, Jay-Z was the first big name person in the music industry that came to his mind.  He may be a racist asshole, but I don't think this shows it, and I don't think it helps to cry racism where there doesn't seem to be.  At least I don't really see it.

This.  I think that a lot of GOP politicians aren't necessarily racists themselves.  But, they are VERY willing to stir racial resentment to motivate their followers, which is in many ways worse because it uses dog whistle phrasing to normalize and perpetuate racist stereotypes and beliefs.

Hahahahahahaha. Are you serious? This guy engineered the government shutdown because he thought it would be helpful for his presidential aspirations!

2014-02-20 12:44:45 PM
Cruz's comments to CNN came a day after Nugent campaigned with Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott, the likely GOP nominee for governor.

"I think it is a little curious that, uh, to - to be questioning political folks about rock stars."

"I will note, there are reasons Ted Nugent - people listen to him, which is that he has been fighting passionately for Second Amendment rights. And - and this administration has demonstrated an incredible hostility to the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens," said Cruz.

"I don't think we should be focused on the personalities and - and - and Hollywood celebrities and like.  We should be focused on the substance.

Why would you have questions about a guy campaigning with the presumed gubernatorial nominee of your state from your party? Oh, I don't know, that doesn't make any sense. I mean, people listen to him, and there are reasons for that, but we shouldn't have questions about him. I mean, we should be focused on the substance, but only of certain things he says, not the other stuff. Because that looks bad for us. But his other stuff is good. Wait, hold on, I'm getting dizzy.

When reminded Jay-Z doesn't call the President a subhuman mongrel, Cruz replied that he'd be willing to bet "the President's Hollywood friends have said some pretty extreme things."

Yea, most likely, because both sides are bad. Who said it yesterday that when Rev. Wright's "Goddamn America" stuff came out, he distanced himself immensely, and was still bombarded. Nugent says all this shiat, and the GOP defends him and campaigns with him. Goddamnit all.

Excuse me? Revisionist history much? Let's hear from the man himself:

Cruz: I didn't threaten to shut down the government the last time. I don't think we should ever shut down the government. I repeatedly voted to fund the federal government.
Schieffer: Senator, if you didn't threaten the shut down the government, who was it that did? ...
Cruz: It was Harry Reid and President Obama. ... The reason we had a shutdown-Look, the Democrats were very candid. I know they told you, they said, "We think the shutdown benefits us politically." Right now the Democrats are telling you that they want another shutdown, because they think it benefits them politically. Why is it hard to understand that they forced the shutdown, when they think it benefits them politically?"

Checkmate, libtardo.

You're someone who likes to pretend dog whistles don't exist. Sure it was coincidental, right. Not at all intentional, yeah huh.

Also Nugent is a goddamn celebrity himself, so is Cruz. Guess they can't be buddy-buddy and do this tour now, right?

Not sure why you assume he's gunning for Pres. any time soon. And yes, he absolutely succeeded in positioning himself as the farthest-right pure conservative in Congress, which appeared to be the goal. When I say he's not stupid, I mean he doesn't undertake silly press stunts (like campaigning with Nugent would be) unless they clearly and directly benefit Ted Cruz.

I already explained in the part of my post you snipped. To reiterate: he's positioning himself to ride the crest of the Tea Party wave as long and as far as it will take him. The shutdown he will continue to blame on Obama and Reid, and the bumpersticker Republicans here that put him into office will happily agree. I think he may have over-estimated the peak of Tea Party's power and longevity (he does appear to be a true believer after all), but he's successfully positioned himself to be safe from being primaried, or having his conservative credentials questioned by "standing up to Obama".

It's Texas politics, for 90% of voters, the optics and sloganeering are all that matter.

Abbott's campaign aides admitted that they invited Nugent to campaign with him Tuesday, the first day of early voting in the Texas primary election, because he can draw crowds and gin up the GOP base.

I don't know what his endgame is. Higher office? Judicial appointment? Cushy punditry job? No telling at this point.

What I do know is that he is successfully gathering influence on the right by theatrical maneuvers, derpy as they may seem to those outside the echo-chamber.
