Sorry subby,

Just because a real fighter likes your fake fighting, doesn't make it legit.

Shouldn't be too surprising, given how often she talks about being "comfortable playing the heel."

Rousey seems to be heading towards becoming the women's division's Sonnen, apart from being able to... y'know, actually win big fights and get a belt.

MMA fans are all high and mighty now, but what they need to realize is that their favorite sport is only a few cards away from being pro wrestling.

Pro wrestling was completely legit when it started. But then some top guys figured out they could draw more money by working programs with each other, making people want to see rematches thanks to close finishes, and the like. Then the promoters got in on it, because as UFC on Fox 1 taught us, an hour of hype for a 3 minute match makes no one happy.

So, pro wrestling became a work to please fans which maximized profits.

And UFC is one bright idea by a couple of workers away from that.

Anyone who knows Rousey knows this. I think she's a fun fighter to watch and love when she talks crap about whomever she fights. A lot of MMA fighters are bland and at least she hypes her fights up. The fact she is hot is a bonus, but she is a great fighter. I've said from the beginning, everyone says she is a 1 trick pony, well, it should be easy to defend against it then.

No, both of those are fake sports.  "Fake" being measured by the level of choreography involved and the amount the outcome is predetermined.

Rousy is a big Fi user, so she is going to show that to the world.  People who don't have Fi or are better in control of their Fi will not like her.

Right. My point exactly. Both involve pre-scripted moves of athletic prowess that not just anyone can do. They both involve judges (one has 5, one has 18,000) that immediatley give you feedback on what you have done.

Figure Skating and Ice Dancing are not "sports".

I have never understood the appeal of the UFC. It's bores me but at least it's a sport. Ice skating/dancing, gymnastics and the like are not. Sports have a clear winner. That's not based on subjective judging.

Agree - Olympic motto is "faster, higher, stronger" not "who was able to convince the judges to award more points".

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't a UFC fight (and boxing, for that matter) decided by subjective judging unless there's a knockout or tko?

Yeah, or submission.  But you have a good point.  MMA is well known for bad decisions, mostly because they borrowed the ten point must system from boxing even though it's not a perfect fit.

Boxing has the judges counting landed punches and then each makes his decision. That being said one watching a fight usally doesn't need told who won it.

Because I was only three years old? Regardless, Roy Jones Jr. got robbed but he could have won by knockout and taken it out of the judges hands.

And in which sport exactly does this theoretical incentive not exist?

What, do you think the NFL was happy with the way the Superbowl went?  Do you really think their solution is to fix games to prevent a blowout like that from ever happening again?

The UFC solves the problem by promoting 10-13 fight cards, with every fight being relevant.  The UFC made a huge mistake by airing JDS vs Cain 1 as a one fight main card for television, but anyone who had been there live was more than satisfied with the great shows that Henderson/Guida and Lamas/Swanson put on.

And yes, of course, the Ufarknows that after obtaining success on PPV and obtaining  lucrative FOX deal, the next logical step is to start fixing fights.  You sir, are brilliant.

That's insane.

I think that's the first finisher I've seen where the loser has to do 100% of the work.

Clothesline from Hell. John Bradshaw Layfield sticks out his flabby club of an arm while running at his top speed, which, coming off a rope, is akin to a riding lawn mower that's missing a wheel and is running out of gasoline. The recipient has to do all the selling to make it look effective.
