The poetry of Star Wars has been defiled. Jabba the Hut and General Grevious are inconsolable.

Is she straight?
Is she cis?
Is she pretty?
Is she thin?
Is she cute?
Does she have a typical bust?
Is she neurotypical?
Is she is a member of one of the main faiths in the Empire?

Is she temporarily abled?
Has she never suffered sexual abuse?
Is she not a robot?
Does she have no birth defects?
Is she young?
Does she have two parents?
Are her parents straight? Cis?
Do the animators draw her without going over her lines?
Did she go to school in her own pod racer?
Can she pass as a member of the Empire majority race?

The Clone Wars was good.  Why did they cancel the Clone Wars?

I know why.  It's not a rhetorical question.

They cancelled it because Disney are a bunch of dicks.

kim jong-un: SacriliciousBeerSwiller: Awww man. They're totally going to rob Star Wars of its edge and turn it into something cheesy.

Yeah... that happened when they decided to turn the Jedi into shonen anime characters. Lucas first decided to make "Adventures of Luke Starkiller, As Taken From the Journal of the Whills, Saga 1: The Star Wars"

FTFY

Star Wars has always been cheesy melodramatic space opera.  A bunch of neckbeards deciding to cherry pick the "serious" parts out as representative of the series as a whole doesn't change that.

What's the asshurt here?

If she was NOT a 'spunky feisty attitude warrior' thing, people would be crawling up Disney's ass for not setting 'good examples' for girls, for perpetuating gender stereotypes, and so on.  This is pretty much the most predictable, transparent, thing, for a Star wars setting with nothing but teenagers.

Especially if it's aimed at farking kids, which the art style and character designs seem to point out (Note: I have looked at nothing remotely resembling this so don't know if it's a game, movie, show, graphic novel, or what. Don't care either, Star wars doesn't interest me much beyond a cursory 'space ninjas' thing).

I love that star wars fanboys can't say "They are ruining the original creators vision!" to anything Disney does, because Lucas would be all about introducing characters like this if it meant more toy sales or a DVD re-release.

In the extended universe stuff, Boba Fett's granddaughter is introduced, and she's pretty badass. I wonder if that was part of the inspiration for this female mando character.

I also wonder how long it will take some parents group to biatch and moan to Disney about encouraging kids to commit vandalism and glorifying graffiti.

We already had a Satine (or has Disney completely nuked the Clone Wars from existence?), they couldn't have done any better than Sabine?

As long as she's an actual character and not a forced love interest, I'm willing to see where this goes.

/not too hopeful

2014-02-19 10:22:42 PM
So Disney's going to be glorifying petty vandalism in a show for children?

Is this Sabine going to crack open a cold one and light a joint after a long day of defacing government property, too?

2014-02-19 10:23:33 PM
Well given that the female character in clone wars was all of those things and about 14, and yet was kickass, I will happily withhold judgement.

How many times do they have to make this character before it BECOMES a farking gender stereotype?

Complain all you want. None of you will stop buying star wars crap and obsessing over the sw universe.

biatching about SW has been full swing since episode 1, and you've spent billions on it :)

It already is a gender stereotype. It just happens to be the stereotype that soccer moms around the world have decided is good for their daughter(s) to idolize so of course Disney is going to cater to that.

It's actually pretty edgy considering she'll only be the 5th woman in the entire Star Wars universe to have a speaking part.
Leia, Amidala, Aunt Beru, and the old one briefing the troops before the first death star attack.
Did I miss any?

Well, if you're counting Rebels, then you have to include Clone Wars. So yeah, you missed lots.

The one briefing the troops was in Return of the Jedi. Her name was Mon Mothma, and ironically, she was the highest-ranking leader of the Rebellion in the films.
