How are analogous structures "terrifying?"  Or I guess I should ask "to whom," but then we do have our share of sheltered troglodytes around here.

these

i, personally, have known this for probably 30 of my 38 years.

your gender is neutral for about the first 1/2 of your gestation. the exact same parts either become female or male...the ovaries are essentially the same organs as the testicles, the penis is essentially the same as the clitoris, etc

On the subject, I always wondered...  Is there any sort of vestigial structure in male anatomy that could have been the Uterus before sexual dimorphism kicked in on a developing embryo?

after skimming the headlines within this "article", i have to say NO you weren't "once a woman". you were a non-gendered embryo. the tissue was there to either become a female or a male. women weren't "once a man", and men weren't "once a woman" in the womb.

and TECHNICALLY your seam isn't labia...it's the same tissue that would've become labia had you been born female.

Women are missing a Y chromosome. Men are missing a second copy of the X chromosome that gives back up copies of genes in case the first X is corrupted, which causes a higher rate of death for embryos in males.

Have ya SEEN a vagina?  Once someone decided to make sure everyone shaved them, there's just this big....mess of foldy and protruding wrinkles and labia when all there needs to be is an entry.  It was much less weird when it was covered in hair.  Think about THAT!

2. Penis

1. Boobies!

No shiat, subby. The "base template" for the human body is female. That's how you wind up with [C]AIS ([Complete] Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome) where a genetically male body doesn't develop male characteristics because it doesn't recognize the hormonal triggers that would cause the changes.

Since I didn't see anyone else answer: Not really.

IANABiologist, but my udnerstanding: there are two sets of ducts that exist in the fetus - Wolffian and Mullerian.  In men, the Mullerian ducts degrade and Wolffian ducts take prominence, becoming the vas deferens.  In women, the Wolffian ducts degrade and the Mullerian ducts become the uterus and fallopian tubes.

So, they're analogous but two completely different structures.

Things are arranged that way so that the daily elimination of waste can assist in "clearing out the pipes" for male individuals who can't or won't ejaculate regularly. The passage of solid waste pushes on the prostate and to help move along stuff that didn't make it out the fun way. Urine then flushes the urethra.

I've only ever seen the undercarriage of a transsexual patient once.  This woman presented for a neurosurgical procedure.  The first hint something was amiss was when we put EKG leads on, there were scars from a breast augmentation that she failed to tell us about.  OK, no harm done.  Second clue was when the Bodine doctor had trouble finding the urethra to place a Foley catheter.  I strolled to the bottom of the OR table and took a look to try to help the young man ID the correct orifice and OMG there was a huge round hole roughly where the vagina should be. It was then that it hit me:  he was a male-to-female sex change patient.  The urethral orifice was anatomically nowhere near where it should've been.  The labia majora were huge and wrinkly as if they divided this person's scrotum along the raphe (seam) and separated them to appear as the bigger lips.  I could discern no labia minora at all.  And did I mention that the vagina itself was a huge wide open round hole: O?

FunkOut: utah dude: no, you were never a woman. genetics does not work that way. in fact, women are missing missing something. kthnx for playing.

Women are missing a Y chromosome. Men are missing a second copy of the X chromosome that gives back up copies of genes in case the first X is corrupted, which causes a higher rate of death for embryos in males.

Men are missing one leg off an X chromosome. When this X is corrupted in this way, a male is born.

First, there is an evolutionary explanation that says that hair loss has developed as a signal to other men that you're past your sexual prime and that you shouldn't be a target of aggression.

The problem with this logic is that the children spawned by older fathers actually live longer (something to do with telomeres), so wouldn't farking an older man be an evolutionary advantage to women, having sons that live and fark longer, and have more time to spread their genes around?
