The ice was so bad it looked like they were skating through sand. The Finns played a great team game, and Rask made some awesome saves. There's no way the Russians could come back...I don't think they were lazy or unmotivated because everyone looked slow and bogged down toward the end of each period.

I do feel a little empathy for the Russian fans...imagine if Canada blew the quarter's in Vancouver. Anyway, just an hour and 40 mins 'till I sneak in the Canada/Latvia game here at work.

Just hope Putin doesn't think he's got some exploding to do in the Ukraine now that "the only sport that really matters" is over for him and his bigoted, backward cabal.

If I were an NHL player on the Russian team I'd be finding the first flight out of the country, regardless of where it lands. I wouldn't even go back to the Olympic Village to get my stuff from the room.

Is there any good audio source for the USA-CZE here in America that doesn't require IP tricks?

Check out Astill or Private Internet Access.  I've used both of these VPNs they are cheap and their software is easy to use

/you should be using a VPN for privacy, anyways. Someone could post a pic in this thread and figure out your IP address fairly easily. If your router isn't confg'd correctly, or has backdoor it may be pretty easy to compromise. A VPN could  mitigate that.

Upset per the headline?  Finns were the higher seed.  Technically not an upset. Best kind of correct.

People pinning this loss on Ovechkin are just haters or fools.  Varlamov gave up 2 soft goals, Malkin stunk, Kovalchuk was a headcase, Semin was Semin, Radulov didn't show up for once, Datsyuk was inconsistent, PK blew...team was bad.  NOBODY came through.

But that's the character and style for those Russian stars.  Great as the top dogs on their pro teams, but as a group when you get them together.

Imagine if Canada loses to Latvia in the quarter.  It's tied 1-1 after 2.  Nailbiter!

I love how they keep bringing up the fact that the Soviets/Russians won 8 gold medals in hockey without also pointing out the fact that they sent a team of professionals against junior and college aged players for every one of those gold medals. They stopped winning medals when everyone else was allowed to bring their pros to the tournament too.

fark those pinko commie bastards.

Ted Nolin was asked what their game plan was to beat the Canadians.  He said that as long as the Latvian goalie stops everything, they've got a chance.  So far, that's exactly what's happening.

Ovechkin is an incredible player, but boy does he not show up for the most important hockey games - whether it is for the Capitals or for Russia.  And his teams always underperform expectations.

So, US-Canada and Sweden-Finland? Talk about border rivalries in the semis. My bold prediction is that Teemu Selanne sees one more gold medal game, because I gotta take Rask in goal over Lundquist. The Swedes have some pretty solid offensive talent, but I say they're too banged up to hang with the Finns. Although, are Koivu and Filppula still out for the Finns? That might cause some problems.

As far as USA-Canada, that one's a crap shoot. The Kessel line has been one of the best in the Olympics, and it looks like the Backes line was showing signs of life today, but I don't see Jonathan Quick and the USA d-men keeping the Canadians completely shut down. On the flip side, Canada has been playing a puck possession/edge of the ice game that hasn't been generating very many high quality scoring chances, while the US has been getting a ton of chances off the rush. I expect the US to be outshot by a fairly decent margin, but I expect scoring chances to be about even. It'll come down to lucky bounces, if you ask me. Somebody will make an absolutely stunning save that stops an empty net goal, while somebody else will get a seeing-eye puck that ends up in the back of the net. My heart says the US team has been playing better and that'll carry them through, but my brain takes a look at the offensive power and the depth of the Canucks and says they have to beat a US squad.

2 points (1 goal, 1 assist).  Both came against Slovenia in their first game.  For the rest of the tournament he had a +/- of 0.  They did give him a schedule of the games, right?

So... what team was I watching in that first period of the first game of the tournament? I could have sworn I saw Russia nearly destroy Slovenia, with Ovie and Malkin looking like they were going to dominate the tournament.  Was I just imagining that? Was it all a hallucination?

I am so glad I'm not a Russian now, or a fan of the Russian team.

/Canada's gonna get Bronze, beating Finland.
//USA is going to get the Gold, beating Sweden.
///Yes, is Canadian - but come on, let's face facts. The Canadian team hasn't been as good as expected while the US has been dynamite.
////I hope I'm wrong, and I'd be quite happy to be wrong, but...

Finland will beat Sweden.  Sweden will struggle once they have to play good teams.  They have only played garbage so far.  I expect US to get gold, Finland to get silver and Canada to get bronze.  Stinks for Canada, since they are probably the second best team right now.
