Wouldn't this suggest that any incumbent could appear favorable come campaign season by the sheer increase of spending and jobs (from campaign funding being used to hire college burn out canvassers to paying a hotel tab that includes dead hooker disposal.)

Wouldn't really have to be an incumbent, just anyone that would tend to attract national media interest. So basically the crazier your mainstream candidates are, the better a boost to the economy come election time.

Right now a TV ad salesman in Paducah is ostentatiously dropping brochures for "Double-Wide Premanufactured Estates" around the hot intern's desk.
