In my day, even the criminals were classier. One time I was mugged and the guy went through my wallet and handed me the photos I carried. They were of no value to him but meant a lot to me. He did shoot me, but he waited with me until we could hear the siren on the ambulance before running off.

I guess I should consider myself lucky that I even know who Gloria Steinem was.  :/

Interestingly enough, ms Steinem spent the rest of her life dependent on expensive bicycles

Women across the city are having similar conversations with themselves lately, as Philadelphia reels from yet another senseless purse snatching/homicide.

How many sensible purse snatchings/homicides do they get in Philly each year?

When I was 15 I snuck out of my foster home at night to buy some weed. Went to a nearby school to meet the contact. I get there very quickly and immediately two strangers appear and whipped a toque over my head. They then demanded my money. I told them I didn't have any, which was true, and further added I was looking to get a loan of the weeds. The lightly punched me a few times in the head and arm, and told me not to take the toque off until I couldn't hear them anymore. Then they ran away. So at least I got a free toque.

/yes this was in canada why do you ask?

Famous feminist quote: "I need a man like a fish needs a bicycle."

I've around quite a few feminists in my day and this is the first time I've heard that.

You and the feminists you've around should read more.

That is likely one of the dumbest things I've ever heard in my life. It made no sense when it was popular, and it still doesn't. I thought maybe it would make sense to me when I grew up and became this mature, empowered female of the 70's, but no, it never did. It's just dildos.

It's even dumber than "you can't hug your child with nuclear arms" which at least has a cute pun in it.

Oblio13: "Hooded youths", again. It's always "hooded youths". Is that some sort of code phrase?

It generally means:  "Teenagers committing crimes who are of culture that we cannot admit is causing lots of crimes because that would be bad think".

So in America, it's usually poor blacks or occasionally poor Hispanics.

/And then in France, it's Muslims.  With bazookas.

Oh, I get it. It's 'amusing' because the story has nothing to do with feminism.

Or is it 'amusing' because women are being senselessly murdered?

Maybe I don't get it.

Do any of you message board misogynists care to explain it to me?

There seemed to be an assumption on the part of the woman interviewed that the lives of men were worth less than the contents of her purse eg the quote "Where are our men? Why are they not protecting us?" Sanchez continued, her voice full of frustration. "Men are failing us. I feel as though we are not being protected."

Personally I feel that by my not robbing/murdering Ms Sanchez or any other woman that I have achieved the bare minimum of necessary effort to avoid accusations of misogyny...until you started posting.

This.

After years of being treated as disposable, unwanted, or worse, men are starting to check out of the game.

Just the idea of a man can give some women a case of the vapours, See the recent kerfuffle at Wellesley College for an example. There are safe spaces set up where men aren't allowed, or at best, get to sit quietly in the corner and nod in agreement. Sitting the 'wrong' way on public transit creates a large outcry.

Pretty much, women have been telling average men that they don't want or need them, and society would be better off without men.

Now that women are getting what they said they want, it seems that some of them are unhappy with it.

There's just one flaw with that argument. It assumes that all women are feminists and that they are all militant and all march lockstep with the vision of the future laid out by radical feminists.

Any two women may have different opinions on feminism and to what extent they ...

Yeah, well you seem to be forgetting that they're all a bunch of biatches who say they like nice guys, but when I pretend to care what they say and listen to them whine about their boyfriends they never put out!  What the hell!  I'm a nice guy!

padraig: I always thought that the handbag was the stupidest thing on Earth : sure, ladies, put ALL your valuable possessions in one easy-to-snatch bag. Even more better when the bag itself is more several times the iPhone that it contains, your money, your papers, and so on...

Thieves snatch purses because it's easy. Police tells people not to leave valuable in plain sights in cars. A Vuitton bag is a big "Rob me" sign.

Egoy3k: HAMMERTOE: Look, bupid stitch, you disarm the honest, decent ones, further emasculate them with scholastic indoctrination and "zero-tolerance" laws which punish those who stand up to bullies just as harshly as the bullies their selves, and this is what you get.

I wouldn't have worded it exactly like this but I can't disagree with it.  When you do everything you can to emasculate men you don't get to sit around whining that there are no 'real men' left.

Keep this in mind, ladies. You laugh at Egoy3k and HAMMERTOE's micropenises at your own peril.
