Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) did the exact opposite: he publicly torched his own party's leadership for walking the plank and portrayed Republican senators a bunch of liars and cowards who think Americans are "rubes."

Well, if that's not a text book definition of projection, I don't know what is.

Boy does this give me mixed emotions.

While I'm pretty sure McConnell will win reelection, it certainly warms my heart to see that smarmy chinless bastard have to really work for it for a change.

I'm less happy that it's Cruz who's putting him through his paces.

But I'm delighted to watch the top dogs of demagoguery tear into each other like beaten and starved pit bulls.

"Make no mistake about it, this was their desired outcome," Cruz told radio host Mark Levin. "A lot of Republicans wanted exactly what Barack Obama wanted, exactly what Nancy Pelosi wanted, exactly want Harry Reid wanted, which is to raise the debt ceiling..."

Only financial and political novices are against the debt ceiling increase.

Seriously.  You either have to know absolutely nothing about the absolute basics of how fiscal policy works or you have to be willfully deceptive to the very people you are supposed to serve in order to think what Cruz thinks.  In his case, it's likely both.

People have made disparaging remarks about Senator Cruz, but I must admit that when he smiles, he greatly resembles a drag queen who misplaced her wig.

There's a third option; intentional malice. Traitors like Cruz and the rest of the Teabaggers would love nothing more than to have the US go down in flames, so they can blame it on Obama.

So if McConnell wins reelection, how will Cruz react? Will he call him a RINO and challenge for the minority leadership in the Senate?

Yes, I said minority leadership. There's a chance Democrats lose a seat or two but they're not losing the Senate.

"A lot of Republicans wanted exactly what Barack Obama wanted, exactly what Nancy Pelosi wanted, exactly want Harry Reid wanted, which is to raise the debt ceiling but they wanted to be able to tell what they view as their foolish, gullible constituents back home that they didn't do it.

That's cold and calculating right there. He's making a play to be the leader of his party. He's wanting to show everyone that their current leaders are RINOs. And you know what, I hope Cruz becomes a leader...only because he is so off the charts, that it will result in the Republican implosion.

If the Dems lose the Senate, the Republicans' first act as majority party will be to begin impeachment proceedings against Obama.  It'll fail, of course, but it'll be enough to waste his last two years as President, which'll be victory enough for the GOP.

It'll cause more uproar about the do-nothing Congress, and it will lead to more executive orders than planned. And then, funny enough, they'll lose in 2016 too and this cycle will continue ad nauseum. People are already wising up to the GOP antics, like red states cooperating with the ACA. You can buy a lot of luxuries, but it's really hard to buy a country.

FTA: "Making matters awkward is that Cruz himself is in a leadership position of sorts: he's a vice chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, which is tasked with protecting GOP incumbents and electing more Republican senators."

Well, he's doing a heck of a job!

He's so ridiculous that I'm starting to wonder if he's actually Andy Kaufman wearing a poorly made Ted Cruz mask.

Really? Because he's been completely reliable in his derp from what I can tell. If he occasionally changed a position I might think there's a method to his madness, but he's been a pretty consistent example of the "doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result" definition of insanity.

You don't have to be a masochist, you can just block his posts from your feed. Unless he's posting directly to your wall, in which case he's your brother and you should probably beat him up.

Cruz, never one for compromise, believes it's better for the GOP to dig in ideologically and energize its core tea party base.

Now stay with me here, I'm going to go out on a limb.  A lot of people have made a big deal of Cruz's intelligence. If you were a progressive who wanted to completely destroy the Republican party, wouldn't Ted Cruz's actions be a great way to go about this?

The Dems were going to increase the debt limit on a party line vote regardless.  Cruz, for no reason I can think of, not only forced the Repub leadership to vote for it, he then turned around and excoriated them for doing just what he forced them to do. The single worst thing for Repub leadership is to be exposed for "being reasonable" aka duping the Tea Party with false promises of economic jihad.

I mean, Ted Cruz couldn't possibly be better if he were a liberal plant.  I'm not generally given to conspiracy theories but Ted Cruz as double agent is certainly something to think about.
