Wow.. The headline doesn't do that any justice.. I thought maybe it was going to embellish it a bit.. Nope.. They seriously just avoided the entire category.

It's not black history or white history it's just history. Enough with this pc garbage.

I haven't watched all the college tournament episodes(?), but I was also noticing how incredibly white everybody was.  The guy in the middle looked like he might be mixed though, fwiw.

And they're all thinking, "Man, I guess I should have taken those African-American Studies courses. Who would have thought that would come back to bite me in the ass."

2014-02-19 10:20:45 AM
Same thing happened a couple nights ago with the category about Cambodian history.  So if I were a black Cambodian, I'd be super butt hurt right now!

They all avoided it, but it really seemed to irk the girl on the right named Whitey.  Between rounds she indignantly asked aloud why we don't have White History Month, and then actually complimented Alex on learning the language when he came into our country.

The only black history is slavery, MLK, and The Jackson Five.  I'm tired of these PC THUGS trying to shove Long Dong Silver in my face!

tarheel07: What happened to the battle of the decades?

I think it's on hold for a few months -- not sure what they're doing with that but maybe they're going to bring in some other "decades" too? 90's and 00's maybe?

BTW I did not know that Richard Cordray was a Jeopardy champion -- that was an interesting revelation.

2014-02-19 10:26:19 AM
So forgive me if I'm behind the times, but what happened to Arthur Chu, the guy who put Jeopardy into the headlines a couple weeks ago?  Did he lose or something?

Sure. As long as I don't hear any whining when history classes actually include black history beyond "Lincoln freed the slaves and MLK gave a big speech."

Yeah, and how come blacks get basketball and football and all we get is hockey and NASCAR?  Why are we saddled with "sports" dominated by foreigners and white trash?

If you pay attention to ESPN, it's like the only accomplishments of hockey players and NASCAR drivers are keeping all their teeth intact.

How cute, manufactured outrage.  You'd think this is the first time in history a jeopardy category was untouched until it was the only category left.

Looks like they generally went left to right, with African American history being on the right. What's the story again?

A friend of mine from college is in that.  Her episode airs April 1.

Yeah, isn't it pretty common for the contestants to run down a single category, move onto the next, then run that down, etc.?  Isn't that the whole reason that guy was in the news the other week for farking with that paradigm and jumping around the board?  If that's the case, it's gotta be pretty common that the board ends up with one untouched category at the end.

They put the regular contestants on hold for the tournament.  I think he's still the reigning winner, but they won't show his episodes until probably next week or something.

What about the other categories that night?  International Cinema Showcase?  What about just Cinema?  And weather verbs?  What about just weather?  And Kiwi Fauna?  Why not just New Zealand?  It's like they have to have a category for everything.

This.  I'm African American and I'm not the least bit surprised that they avoided the category.  In fact, I would have been surprised if it had been otherwise.

"LOLOLLLOLLOLLOOOOLOLOLOL"

It should be against the law to write "lol" in articles that aren't about internet abbreviations, let alone that embarrassing mess she shat upon the screen. I know this is Jezebel but come on, at least try and pretend to be writers.

The point I was making it's just history. It's not white history or black history or even Asian history. No one should be claiming it as their own. Like it or not white guys were running the show in this country for a long time. It just makes sense that they show up more in are textbooks.

2014-02-19 10:36:06 AM
In fairness, there was a black girl contestant named Kanesha from Oakwood University. Unfortunately she was competing against a WASPY Canadian girl from Harvard and an Asian math major from Berkeley. I was pulling for her but it was hopeless.

So  I actually  watched it. It wasn't awkward in any way really. They are just trying to manufacture outrage and racism where  there isn't any.

When ultimately faced with the category, the kids got three out of five answers correct

Is this so out of the ordinary for any category?

Seriously though, if they had all black contestants, being black-history month, would anyone have been surprised if a category called "Country Clubs and Yachting" was avoided?
