HAMMERTOE: KidneyStone: A friend of mine here in Georgia had the windshield of her jeep smashed to hell from some moran not clearing the ice and snow off their car. following too closely. Thank god for the plastic layer of a windshield.

I've had snow/ice hit my car while driving on a two lane state highway from a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction.  It happens.

doublesecretprobation: you haven't lived until you've seen an entire semi-trailer shed a sheet of ice from it's roof at highway speed.

Roof is cute. The entire SIDE dropping is a buttpuckerer

you clearly have no idea what you're talking about.  if you'd spent any appreciable time driving in the snow you'd know that on the highway in particular, ice from the roof of a car or semi (the MOST guilty of them all) can get incredible hang time.  said hang-time being equal to multiple "safe" distances at speed.

no really, you haven't lived until you've seen an entire semi-trailer shed a sheet of ice from it's roof at highway speed.

I've seen that, and yes, it is very cool.  Not so cool to be the car behind the trucker, but very cool to watch.  However, not saying what he wrote isn't true, but it is likely ice that damaged the jeep.  Snow usually doesn't damage the other cars behind doing all the snow catching.  I'm one of many people who only clear the windshield and side windows, then I just a cloud of snow behind me for a few miles.  Never had any large chunks fly off my cars.

Lawmaker began pushing law after a sheet of ice flew off a truck, struck his wife's windshield

So, as usual, it wasn't a big deal for this guy until *he* was personaly affected. That's when he decides to make it a crusade. Not while hundreds of other people were getting their windshields ruined.

Does the Daily Mail think trucking companies don't know about ladders?

Now that brings back memories....

Yep.  It's probably been decades since I last played.  Is it still in production, or will it get a kickstarter like Ogre did, I wonder?

One of the Ogre stretch goals involved an eventual KS for Car wars

and when all that snow doesn't blow off (in that cloud of blinding snow behind you and every other asshole who doesn't brush off their car) it melts in the mid-day sun and turns into ice.

Kalashinator: cwolf20: Doesn't a city in Florida still make it a 500 dollar fine to detonate a nuclear weapon in the city limits?  Granted, when I read that in a novel while standing in a small bookstore, it was before wikipedia's founder conceived of wikipedia.

I want to say that's Phoenix. If a stupid law criminalizing things like entering MN from WI with a duck on your head is still in the books, I imagine that $500 nuke detonation fine is still applicable. Al-Qaeda must be quivering in their sandals about that one.

For every stupid law, there is a reason behind it. It's not like some politician suddenly bolted up from sleep one night and thought "Good God! what if someone where to use a duck for a hat for interstate travel? This must not be allowed to pass!"

It's more like, for whatever reason, the states had a law against carrying ducks across state lines (to prevent species invasion or whatever....I don't know) and some guy, just for a larf (trolling isn't a new thing) decides to stick a duck on his head and say "Nah-nah-boo-boo, I'm not carrying it. You can't touch me!". Law makers are then forced to create a stupid law to deal with that one farktard.

A quick search turns up that in Texas It is illegal for one to shoot a buffalo from the second story of a hotel. Well before this became an issue lawmaker never thought someone would think this was a good idea. Then some jackass checks into a hotel and starts popping caps at buffalo at 2am. People complain, the sheriff shows up to tell him to knock that shiat off and the man tells him "Bugger off ye rascal! There be no law 'bout busting ye olde caps". And the sheriff, defeated, has to go back home (This was before drop guns and little baggies of cocaine to plant were discovered). So someone had to make it a law to stop that nonsense.

It's like dealing with children. You tell your 5 year old he can't get anymore cookies. So he sends his 3 year old brother to climb up on the counter and get a cookie. "You only said *I* couldn't get a cookie, you didn't say *he* couldn't get me a cookie"

Hello.

Pfffft.

Get off my lawn.

A back in the day memory for me right there. Pumping quarters into Spy Hunter trying to get farther and farther. Now I just play it on my PSP 1001. Ahh....the 80's, back when an "arcade" was a video game arcade!

It was heartbreaking when I realized that there was no end stage, and nothing other than the switch between regular driving and the jet boat stage. Dang it! We all thought the right combo of choices would get to an end stage, boss fight, or something - maybe a helicopter stage where you could finally face that damned chopper on your own terms.

Dude! Spolier alert!

I kid. I never realized I never knew how the game ended until you brought this up. I don't know what I expected since I played it before boss fights were a thing. I think I got to be a boat a few times, so I expected to become a chopper if I was only good enough.

Chino, California. Specific city code:

"No person shall produce, test, maintain, or store within the city a nuclear weapon, component of a nuclear weapon, nuclear weapon delivery system, or component of a nuclear weapon delivery system under penalty of Chapter 9.60.030"

That Guy Jeff: I like how it only became an issue after a politicians wife got hit by ice. Before that, didn't matter how many times it happened. But you make it personal, and suddenly SH*T GETS DONE. Hmmm. I really really really hope some congressman's wife gets hit by a drone strike. That would get some wheels turning. We need to send out wedding invitations from Yemen to congressional households.

It is a terrible law to boot.  The statute reads that you must remove ALL ice and snow from ANY part of your vehicle or you may be fined.  The only exception is for parked vehicles or when it is snowing (at the time of ticketing).  It is just another stupid law to give the state the ability to fine anyone and everyone for no reason.

A much better law would be to assign strict liability to the owner of the car in the event that flying ice or snow actually caused damage, maybe with some minimum compensation if the damage was slight.  But that wouldn't generate revenue for the state.

studebaker hoch: OK, that second pic just looks like fun.

Who the fark would drive like that

Someone fed up with tailgaters would be my guess.

Yep.  Stop tailgating me in the snow.

Just because you're too cheap to buy snow tires or too incompetent to drive correctly in the snow doesn't mean I can be late for my damn client meeting. Move your arse or stay home.

ArcadianRefugee: Seriously, there are few things that piss me off more than seeing some asshole driving down the road with little more than a porthole to see through and chunks of ice leaping off his roof into following vehicles.

It's okay, I made sure to clean off my headlights:

My firs thought.  Way to represent your "constituency".

My second thought:  We already have laws with regard to tailgating and too safe for conditions.  Protip!  If a cop can see the snow/ice so can you!

Also:  I wonder how many officers/stopped people will be injured or die enforcing this law as to those currently without the law?

This wasn't some epidemic, it's a one off occurrence and usually in the form of snow which is just another one of those traffic things people like to whine about with negligible actual safety issues.  That's coming from someone who is constantly annoyed by people who can't be bothered to be courteous and clean off their cars.

Just another tax.

Reminds me a bit of the politicians that yell that marijuana is bad, evil, wrong, immoral, etc, etc. Then some family member gets sick and they suddenly see the light. Farking hypocritical lying no good opportunistic bastards. More of these problems should make a personal visit to their doorsteps.

Or politicians that smoked marijuana when they were younger but continue to enforce rules that had they been caught under they wouldn't be politicians. I want to see their kids get busted for pot possession and prosecuted to the full extent of the law, destroying their futures.
