I hope the shooter is brought up on charges. I'm no anti-gun guy by any stretch of the imagination... but I think if you are so careless that you'll shoot at something you can't see clearly enough to even determine if it's a deer or a human then there should be some serious farking consequences when it is a human.

Maybe 15, 16 years ago in Danville, Virginia, there was a hunting "accident."

Hunters A and B were hunting for turkey and heard some movement in the bushes, maybe 50' away.  They shot into the bushes and seriously wounded Hunter C.  Without going to check on Hunter C, Hunters A and B yelled out "we're going for help" and turned around.  Hunter C then shot them both in the backs.

Hunters A and B were both charged by the DA.  Hunter C had no charges brought against him.

Definitely but like those morons who were playing with cleaning their gun when it "just went off" he'll probably get off scot-free. Negligence charges just don't get applied very often when idiots and guns are combined.

as opposed to those "low-powered" rifles you hear so much about?  Repeat after me..."there is no such thing as a high-powered rifle" or a "low-powered rifle", for that matter.  It's a "rifle".  "High-powered" is just something the numb-nuts liberals on FARK and in the real media use to scare people.

People use "high powered" when they refer to rifles that fire hypersonic ammo and "low powered" when they are referring to rifles that fire subsonic ammo.

You may continue with your media outrage.

Why would you use subsonic ammo with a rifle? I haven't even heard of such a thing as subsonic rifle ammo but I'm not much into guns.

Also in the AL. State hunting rules it says if someone shoots at you while you are in the woods you are supposed to shoot back.

What the hell are you talking about? Whether the round is subsonic or not is determined by the round, and NO ONE uses subsonic ammo for hunting. You are completely full of shiat. Just "making up terms" full of a pure grade A shiat.

That said, dumbarse walks into area that says "People be shooting here, yo" and gets shot. Yup. Would happen walking onto a shooting range too. Dumbarse got what dumbarses get. The captions would be "Darwin missed by || that much" if it was anything other than a gun involved.

A .22 long rifle round is subsonic, and I have shot a few pansy-ass .22 rifles before.

I hate the use of the term too but think they're trying to differentiate between "real" and kiddie guns. Obviously, surviving a shot from, say, a .308 is a much more newsworthy event than from a .22 rimfire plinker.

Winchester Model 76
Though the model '76 sold fewer copies than either of its predecessors (Models 1866 and 1873), it was the first to deliver Winchester's promise of a truly high-powered hunting rifle.

I wont even bother finding old Sears Catalog scans, or any of the billion other easily recalled uses.

So anything other than a .22LR would be considered a 'high-powered' rifle? That still leaves the term a ridiculous bit of sensationalistic claptrap despite dukwbutter's comment about "numb-nuts liberals"
