No one could reach anyone on the phone. German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski unsuccessfully tried to reach Yanukovych. Yanukovych in turn broke off the call from Vladimir Putin - and also without a result - the president of Russia was too busy. The only person who managed to get through was US Vice President Joe Biden. He apparently spoke with Yanukovych and got across to him that what was going on was absolutely unacceptable. What Yanukovych said in response is not known.

Information from various sources contradicts each other, but what can be said approximately is that by 7:00 am, about 20 people had been killed in the riots, and significantly more than a thousand were wounded. This includes dozens of policemen who have been severely wounded, and at least six killed. The main injuries are: eyes popped out from light and noise grenades, fractures, burns, gunshot wounds. Seven people suffered in the fire from smoke inhalation and burns. They were all rescued

Very interesting. Plus, also in that link:

Klichko said that Yanukovych is not in touch with what is really happening in the situation.

That's it, too many marbles rolling around upstairs, he's had it. He's locked himself up, can't even stand to talk to his friends anymore.

Next, the article mentions five locations, all geographically spread out, where trouble is rising: Kyiv city, Lviv (Lviv Oblast), Lvov (Mykolaivs'ka oblast), Ivano Frankovsk, and Ternopol. This could mean things are heating up and unrest is spreading on a national scale.

That. THAT, is what they need. International recognition. Texts in English, writing in English, or any other language spoken in large parts of the world. Hashtags and Facebook pages and emotional videos that make the room dusty.
There's a few things you can fault the protesters, but one important thing is that they seem to have started their PR campaign pretty late. The Egyptians for example even had people come in to advise them on how to win hearts and minds (remember the no violence policy).

Really worth perusing: the photos from the "Maidaners", like this one for instance. Text: "Evgeniy Utkin, the founder and the president of the hi-tech holding KM Core, with his son Vladimir. In December Evgeniy gave a lecture at the small stage of Maidan on the subject of "lie being the primary source of all revolutions". I asked him if he was afraid of being prosecuted by the authorities after such lectures. He has business, he is a millionaire if I am not mistaken, - he has a lot to lose. "It isn't going to get worse than it is now", - answered Utkin and allowed me to quote his words."

Evgeni isn't small fish: CEO, Businessman of the Year, Top 10 manager of Russia laureate, the lot. Even has his own English Wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evgeni_Utkin

Munchkin City Coroner: Wait, he went to Ukraine for a vacation? Where is he from? Detroit?

You know that Ukraine has plenty of coastline on the Black Sea, has the most beautiful women in the world per capita*, and has an extremely low per capita income, meaning that your money goes a lot farther in general over there towards buying food, drinks and women? I've been to Ukraine on vacation, and I'm certainly happy to return.

Reports abound that things are being moved into place for an afternoon or evening attack on the protesters in Kiev.

- More shots fired today, one middle-aged woman reported killed, wounded are snatched from hospital beds and taken to undisclosed locations.
- Rumors about busloads of titushky's being on their way.
- Rumors about armored cars on their way to Kiev.

No state of emergency has been declared (yet the government has still closed off metro stations), but talk about (airborne) troops on alert is starting:

- https://twitter.com/EuromaidanPR : Ex-Defense Minister Anatoliy Hrytsenko reports that Defense Minister Lebedyev has ordered troops from #Dnipropetrovsk
- "Def Min Lebediev says sent 500 airborne troops from Dnipropetrovsk to Kyiv, can't guarantee armed forces won't deploy "

Some fresh hints as to how the military will react: "Petro Shuliak, lieutenant-colonel of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Forces army unit N1241, made an official statement reflecting the position of the unit commanders that he will not give clearly criminal orders and assured that the personnel will not execute clearly criminal orders." (includes jpg of document)

From @EuromaidanPR and many others, a cry for help: "Dear #Europe. Now we are at war."

Panty Sniffer: mbillips: Chicago does not have an extremely high murder rate. It had a statistical spike in 2012, but it still wasn't a high rate compared to REALLY dangerous towns like Detroit, Memphis and New Orleans. Chicago's rate is about 18 per 100k, vs. 54 per 100k in Detroit. All that Murder Capital BS was just because Chicago has a very large population inside the city limits, and thus had a big raw number. Chicago's not ultra SAFE, now, not like New York City (5.1 per 100k), but it's not a war zone, either.

Also avoid neighborhoods like Englewood and Austin.  But that is only common sense.

That's right - we'd all like everyone to stay away from Austin. Please?

from EspressoTV:

Authorities Prepare for Second Storm of the Maidan Today at 6pm

According to the information of the Headquarters of the National Resistance, at this time law enforcement structures are preparing their troops for combat, distributing ammunition and special equipment.
This information comes from Espreso.TV and the press service of Batkivshchyna party.

"We call on all Kyivites who want to defend the capital of their country from the criminal occupation to come to the Maidan, in order to blunt the attack and the 'clean-up' of the peaceful protest. We need to stay and act together in order to prevail," says the statement of the National Resistance.
