Na scenie rozstawionej na Majdanie na przemian słychać modlitwy, pieśni i apele o pomoc dla protestujących.

Translation:  On the stage where previously there was music, there are now prayers...

26 regional representatives just flew out of Kiev on a chartered jet owned by the son of the former premier.

The FFs can't get to the buildings that are on fire...!!!

In Lwow, the protesters have taken over government buildings, including the main police headquarters.  The police are retreating without weapons!  This is unreal!

2014-02-18 08:18:11 PM
In Tarnopol, they have also taken completely over, cars in the streets with speakers attached on the roof are calling for people to mobilize and head to Kiev!

Wow, their women are starting to take part in the fight. And judging by the last few minutes of the video, it's a bad time to be a police officer at this time of year.

Not that I'm a bootlicker or anything, but I think the police are showing amazing restraint.

They haven't mobilized yet...wait, its coming.  The city has been completely blocked off, no one can come or go.

So, which party should we root for? I haven't been keeping up. Which one is the underdog and can get Yulia Tymoshenko out of prison?

Yeah, they're not going to move in at nighttime, and as long as the perimeter's on fire. They'll wait until the fires have died down and the protesters are exhausted.

He might be losing support. The main force being used here are Berkut, an interior "special force". Kyiv police previously refused to support the aggressions, I suspect that is happening now too. Getting the Army involved is dangerous because a large portion of them may not move against their countrymen. In fact, there are rumours that soldiers may be heading to Kyiv to support the protests. There's also an Interior army but these are mostly young kids from poor families. There's about 5000 Berkut that can move against the Maidan, that may not be enough, they've been beaten back a few times. But they will make sure that more blood will be spilled.

Yanukovich has run out of options, nobody can trust him to negotiate anymore. This will end violently, one way or another.

Watching the stream, the attack looks to be starting again, they're calling for help at the barricades.

Looks like things are heating up, the cops are planning assault.

2014-02-18 09:40:29 PM
And the guy speaking before said the streets into Kyiv are pretty clear, buses have arrived from Western Ukraine, with more on the way. Moving in the city seems to be tricker though with armed Berkut patrolling and blocking some main streets.

It's sad that this drama has so relatively few comments in this thread. I'll assume everyone is just watching, dumbfounded.

Is she the blond with the braided hair? Truthfully I don't think any good can come from either side, and NATO having tea parties with these eastern block country's is gonna get us into a war that will release more energy than all previous wars combined.

I thought I just saw a Berkut get caught in the fire, stumble into the protesters who dragged them in and started beating him. Anyone else?

I think it not being in English is hurting, but IMHO this can turn very ugly pretty quickly.  There is a rumor of 2 armor divisions moving on Kiev.  If true I hope they support the protesters, otherwise it will be a bloodbath.

There are more protestors than there are Berkut. The barricades are being constantly built up and the fires fed.  Just now the man speaking was directing people to different parts of the square and reminding them to watch underground tunnels that run under the square.

2014-02-18 09:50:46 PM

danzak: Protests starting in Eastern Ukraine too again, with over 5000 in Kharkiv. This is the beginning of the end of this. next few days will be rough, but this was incredibly dumb on Yanukovich's part. He has left himself no way out now other than all out war, which he will lose eventually, but more blood will be spilled

Looks like the protesters are kicking those fires up a notch and lucky for them the wind is blowing away from them.  Thats a ton of smoke with god knows what in it.

For real? So this is turning into the war of the rats(Stalingrad).

I really do feel sad that well the whole western prosperity thing we sold in the 80's was a huge lie. Also the closest thing they had to capitalist were mafia and ex KGB not a good mix for a democratic republic.

There are Twitter rumors about 22 instead of 9 deaths now.

Entire regiments of soldiers choosing sides (against the government) usually is a turning point. Any support from rural communities?

Im sure its been said before but the priest's chanting and hymns really lend something to the video. I wonder what the song they are singing now is saying?  Daybreak will be coming soon, I wonder what the square will look like in a few hours?
