ciberido: Panty Sniffer: Chris Ween: God I loved the tshirts in China. It was all the rage to have English writing on your shirt. Coca-cola, Nike, whatever. However, the cheaper ones didn't have rights and didn't really care. So they'd put Cow and Grocery Store on the shirts and sell it to the hip kids.

Yes, that was one of my delights while living in China.  Kids wold wear the goofiest shirts, someone of them really vulgar and offensive, if they had English on them.  This even happened in HK where English is an official language.

As well as Korea, Mongolia, anywhere in Asia, really.  And I would bet it happens in many other non-English speaking countries as well.

I was in Bangkok a couple of years ago on business, staying at a ultra high-end hotel, and at breakfast I noticed one of the other customers--an obviously wealthy middle-aged Japanese businessman staying there with his middle-aged Japanese wife--who was wearing a t-shirt with a picture of a 9 mm Glock on it, and the words (in English): "GLOCK: When you absolutely, positively need to shoot some coont in the face."  I doubt he had much of a clue about what it actually said.

/Anyone?

As an aside, all those people who talk about the 2d amendment not being a deterrent to tyranny, think of these protest where they don't have guns and still mange to get the attention of the government.

I hope they're not armed.  If they are, the body count would be a lot higher than 9, and it'd be very, very one-sided.

So, defending with rocks is better than defending with guns?  I beg to differ. What did we learn last week when Venezuela went up in flames?

Yes.  Because throwing rocks and lighting fires usually doesn't get you shot.  It might get you beat, but probably not shot.

Since the clever and funny replies are already take, I'll go with the serious one.   It's "rein in" because it's making an analogy with the reins one uses to control a horse.

The government is showing remarkable restraint. If they use guns, the government is much less inclined to continue showing restraint and will use guns back. Then it devolves into guerrilla warfare. Think Libya without the benefit of Western air power because the Russians would go all NIMBY about it.

I think this camera is located above the "Dynamo" metro station, just up the hill from Maidan. The building in the background is the metro station entrance, Here are the google maps coordinates:

50.4507,30.52933

If correct, the authorities are cleaning up areas taken back from the occupiers.

If you follow the link on the image itself,  http://www.ukrstream.tv/, it shows both that video of cleanup operations and the current scene we're expecting. The cleanup appears to be at European Square, which is 700 meters northeast of Independence Square according to google maps. Not knowing a thing about Kiev geography, I'm guessing these are both live, but in two different places.

Snap elections, I think, and the resignation of the government and President. They're due for national elections next year, but they're so het up about the government's stampede toward the Russians and away from the EU that they don't want to wait. The current president got 48 percent of the vote, so it's not like he has a mandate to do all the radical economic and political restructuring he's been up to (basically, dismantling the Orange Revolution changes).

So basically, the rioters are Gore voters, only not as anesthetized by TV.

Gore voters? they are trying to get away from an overly large oppressive gov't, not closer to one.
