Somebody needs to let Mourinho know that Chelsea isn't playing Man City this week. He's really crossed the line from "mind games" to "asshattery" lately.

If you think that's bad, just watch if he, by any chance, gets Bayern Munich. His hatred of Pep will make him go nuclear.

Can they both get hurt? Can Kompany shatter Messi's knee? I'll settle for either one.

Manchester City are so much bigger now, that Barca fans are flocking to Etihad Old Trafford.

After 2009 and 2011, were they there to put a "Property of FC Barcelona" sticker on it?

Me thinks Jose's feeling the pressure of such a tight race at the top.

Ugh. Two teams I hate facing off. Can Citeh win and get disqualified somehow?

Interesting line-ups for City and Barca. City looking to clamp down on the left with Kolarov and Clichy both starting while Barca appear to be opting for all out attack with both Alves and Alba playing. They both like to play high up the pitch at that could leave them a little exposed in the back if City can counter quickly

K, I'm all screwed up now. I really thought more games were on today and I spent all morning debating between Citeh v Barca or Gunners v Munich, and I see that's all for naught.

It's actually funny to see. We play next week, so I don't know why that would hurt to see.

Citeh definitely has the advantage if they can counter quickly. They just have to hope Kompany doesn't get hurt. Their defense is a lot shakier when he's not at his best.

Almost forgot this started today, and now I'm in a glorious mood. I'm struggling with who I want to win though... I hate both teams, but going farther in the UCL might tire City even more?

Tbh it's ridiculous that a) The round of 16 is being played over six weeks when it could be done in four and b) UEFA still adheres to that dumbass rule of "no domestic league football while the CL is on".

Czech v Slovak hockey into CL. Perfect

What did he do/say this time?

He's been sounding off about how weak this Barca team is, the implication being that City ought to deal with them easily, and if they don't it reflects poorly on them. Or perhaps it's supposed to provoke Barca to prove him wrong.

Why he feels the need to put his 2c into a game that doesn't involve him is a mystery.

Barca is the exact opposite of Moyes' ManU.  Almost no crosses ever, just tap tap tap into the box.

He's still mad over the fact people like Pep better. He might not be Real's manager anymore, but he hates Barcelona just as much. So he'll take any chance he gets to get an insult in.

How was that obstruction by Negredo when Valdes jumped on top of him?

Princip's Sandwich: Citeh looks pretty content with letting Barcelona pass the ball to oblivion.

The last time a Pellegrini side tried to attack Barca it resulted in his Real Madrid getting thrashed 6-2 at the Bernabeu. He's going to play these two matches very pragmatically. As long as Barca wants to play tiki-taka 40+ yards from goal, City will let them.

Ah. Last season's CL semifinals. Just the memory of Bayern utterly obliterating Barcelona brings a smile to my face.

Don't remind me... I've tried erasing that memory ever since.

Looks like Citeh is getting comfortable. Survived the opening salvo and growing into the match.

And Alves is already carded. Barcelona just might end the match with 10. He's not exactly Javier Zanetti.

I think it was for repeated fouling. He's been going for slide tackles a lot.

And now Negredo's got his card for being reckless.

Cumulative.  He'd been aggressive a few times and they finally carded him

2014-02-18 03:15:40 PM
Vital tackle by Yaya. He misses that and it's 0-1.

Still no shots for Barcelona despite all the possession. They have really taken this tiki-taka philosophy to the extreme. It is a little boring to watch to be honest.

Which is why it bothers me that Del Bosque has espoused that philosophy so much. When it fails, it fails spectacularly. Just look at the Confed Cup Final.

2014-02-18 03:21:32 PM
Damn. Negredo's a lot bigger than I thought.

2014-02-18 03:21:39 PM

Really delayed accidental double post. Weird.

So far the French Arab oil sheik play things are having a better go of it than the English Arab oil sheik play things. I like that City fans have a banner saying Thank You Sheik Mansour. At least they are self aware that they would be irrelevant without their sugar daddy.

2014-02-18 03:30:04 PM
Oof...I think Negredo needs to do better with that header.

Is Matuidi the most attractive free transfer grab this offseason? I heard rumblings awhile ago that hell or high water he ain't signing an extension with PSG.

If their clubs advance respectively, another chapter of Mourinho versus Pep would be fun. That said, imagine the war of words Mourinho would have if Chelsea drew PSG in the quarters. That's WrestleMania worthy there, king.

Really good defensive work so far by Citeh. They've neutralized every threat so far.
