This is true.  But on the other hand, their coffee is also terrible.  So maybe it works.

Krispy Kreme donuts are delicious. God, I miss them since they closed pretty much all their stores.

Sweet, now if they could only put toothpaste on them, I would save even *more* time in the mornings!

Krispy Kreme, for when I want sugar cum covered balls of spackle.

The grossness combined with the terribleness creates:

Just plain nasty

The only time I like them is when I visit the actual factory shop in Raleigh.  Hot off the conveyer belt is damn fine eatin'

Hrmm, I have never seen someone be so wrong about a fundamental law of the universe.

Is the Hot Light on?

Meh, i was really looking forward ot them when they came to Houston. It was a bit of a let down.

Krispy Kreme donuts dissolve on contact with hot liquid, as they are made of yeast and cotton candy.

As the name might suggest, Dunkin Donuts are better for dunking, as the acidity of the coffee cuts through the waxy saturated-fat carapace that DD cake donuts have.

There was a time when you could walk into most grocery and convenience stores around here and get Krispy Kreme donuts from a special case. Then all those cases stopped getting filled with fresh donuts. Then they were all removed.

The only time I see Krispy Kreme donuts anymore is when kids are selling boxes for "charity" in various public transit stations around the city.

I saw that in the cafeteria this morning and wondered if I would need to start a new exercise plan today. You know, just to try one out.

A hot Krispy Kreme glazed donut is a damn fine treat.  But Winchell's puts two extra donuts in every dozen, so that's nice, too.

2014-02-18 11:00:47 AM
They are little puffs with no substance covered with a slime so sweet it makes your teeth hurt. They are revolting. As someone said there is a reason that all their stores in the northeast closed. Once the novelty wore off, everyone realize they were terrible.

I grew up with mostly Tim Hortons. Neither they nor Dunkin make great doughnuts these days, though they are both better than KK. And they both make tolerable coffee, again unlike KK.

Best bet for doughnuts is probably any local independent.

Agreed. I thought they tried this with their other donuts, when they combined the flavors of butt and hole.

"moist yeast doughnut filled with a tasty blend of chocolate and coffee flavors, topped with mocha icing, a milk chocolate swirl and decorated with milk chocolate icing."

I got fat just reading that.

Day old donut recipe:

i have come to the conclusion that people who LOVE kk donuts are the people who won't venture from the big name to try out the mom & pop (or, around here, mostly korean-owned...still perhaps mom & pop?) donut shops.

i know not every town in middle america has them, but most places i've been do, including the town i'm from, hope, arkansas. around where i live (ft worth, tx, area) there are 1000s of them. in my somewhat rural area far north of ft worth, there are 2 within 5 minutes driving distance, and at least 5 i've stopped at on my way into work between my house and downtown fw

all of them are superior to what i've had even when the hot light is on at kk

You get the exact same experience for a whole lot cheaper by getting a 12-pack at your local grocery store and nuking them for five seconds.

I would rather have a box of supermarket mass produced donuts than Krispy Cream. To me Krispy cream donuts just taste like lard and sugar puffed with air.

And they are not farkin krispy.

2014-02-18 11:26:47 AM

Doc Daneeka: there is a reason that all their stores in the northeast closed.

In NYC at least, most if not all of the Krispy Kreme locations were tiny little storefronts or kiosks that precluded them from preparing the donuts onsite -- and if they have to be trucked in twice a day from an industrial building in Long Island City, what's even the point?  You never ever got the hot and fresh donut that KK was famed for elsewhere in the country.

2014-02-18 11:28:28 AM
I miss the majority of mom and pop doughnut shops that used to be in every neighborhood.  Fortunately, Wegmans still makes a damn fine variety of doughnuts.  Much better than TH or DD.  Krispy Kreme didn't really stand a chance up here.

no. no you don't.
as much as i prefer almost-anywhere-that-sells-donuts over kk, freshly fried/glazed is by far the best way to eat a kk donut. nuking is good for a leftover donut, but it's not even comparable to fresh & still warm

in these parts, the best chain donut is shipleys. and if you get closer to louisiana they have southern maid.

Why do you think they closed all their stores?

Because it's hard to get repeat business from customers who have had three heart attacks and a diabeetus-related limb amputation in the last week.

I got a Krispy Kreme a few blocks up, and a Dunkin Donuts a few blocks down. I always stop by one or the other on the way to the park. God damn I love donuts.

I remember my local small-town Dominos person who records the specials mispronounced "artisan" as "Artesian". I got a kick out of that.

Not sure what an artesian pizza is.  Sounds wet.

i once purchased and attempted to consume a beverage from kk. it was one of their frozen beverages, and it was white. can't remember the name. but i swear it was simply whipped and frozen donut glaze. it was so sickengly sweet, and left such a film in my mouth/throat, that i could only drink about 1/4 of it before i had to give up and toss the rest. i swear i had 1/2 these symptoms.

Really? You have to be a hipster to have an opinion about whether or not you like a certain type of doughnut?
