(Belfast Telegraph)   The real reason university students in the UK are destroying British downtowns on a weekly basis: too much preloading. Classic rookie mistake   (belfasttelegraph.co.uk) divider line 27

Preloading? Is that the British version of pregaming? That's what we call it here in 'Merica.

Have you been to England? Getting drunk is the only way to make the weather, food, and opposite sex not seem horrible there.

Only in the countryside. If you need to get drunk to enjoy London, you're hopeless.

You just need colder weather over here in Canada for about 8 months of the year drunken club goers are not wearing enough clothing to go outside longer than it takes to get in a cab.

Me and a couple of friends once preloaded with a liter bottle of tequila.
It didn't end well for any of us.

/Never since or ever again.

That's what I assumed.

Pregaming is a must if you're going to a sporting event or concert in the United States, since many venues will charge you at least $6 for a freakin' beer.

This also applies to strip clubs.  I just about shiat myself when I went to the Spearmint Rhino in Las Vegas last year and the bartender told me that a Coors Light cost $10.

Belfast (RTFA) represents the entire United Kingdom now? So, that trip I took down the eastern seaboard in August, can I reasonably assume that most of America looks like the ghettoey area of Baltimore around Poe's grave and house?

I thought the legal drinking age was 15 there or something.  Shouldn't they have figured out their limit by the time they're 34?

Minimum age you can drink at is 5, but the problem is, as the article is all about, pubs close early which means people drink as much as they can as fast as they can. Loosen up and people won't be in such a hurry to get obliterated. Like with all things in life, if you restrict it it makes it appear cool to kids, who are all idiots, that's why they're kids.

Also most of these people who spew and get obliterated are kids, this is how they learn. Most people have learned by the time they get to 34, but you can never discount exceptional nights out, and idiots who never do learn.

Actually, the article appears in the Belfast paper...not that Belfast is an improvement over London now with the religio-nationalist drug cartels reviving themselves.

I think it is Sweden or Norway where they call it foreplay.

/damn, every time I see the word `Norway` my brain goes `forget Norway! Come to Kenya!`

Pre-party is a cost saving measure over here. Poverty is forcing us to drink a bottle of Chekov vodka before going out and buying 12 bottles of WKD and a Gin&Tonic at a Weatherspoons.

Ah college.  Where getting fall down drunk before trying to walk to the bars seemed like a good idea.

This.  Belfast is the only city in Britain that has a problem with drunkenness.  Not every white person in the country is getting paralytic every night.  No sir.

Big rookie mistake. Having a "friend" convince you that preloading 5htp for a week before rolling your first time is a good idea.

Uff-dah.

Its cheaper to drink at home.

2014-02-17 06:06:56 PM
Boozing at pubs and clubs can get pretty expensive.  Getting a buzz before heading out is far cheaper than trying to get blitzed at a club.  That, and the service usually sucks, too.

Really? Thanks Rick Romero

I don't see why bars should have to close at a set time in the first place. Most people leave before closing as it is and it really sucks when you work evenings and have nowhere to go after work.

It`s been shown that it is the early closing time itself that leads to the binge drinking culture `to get enough in before they shut` and the pulse of very drunk people released onto the streets all at once that leads to an increase in violence.

A later closing time with a staggered release of drunkards leads to a decrease in alcohol related incidents.

Bring back the house party I say. Clear the room, turn up the stereo and buy a few bottles of booze to drink with some friends.

Northern Ireland is NOT part of the UK. Get your facts right, subby.

THE GREAT NAME: Northern Ireland is NOT part of the UK. Get your facts right, subby.

Sigh

So Northern Ireland is not part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain & Northern Ireland?
