I don't know that I've ever concurred with a statement like that during an Olympics. Even after the Atlanta bombing.

And yet...

Curling is on now.

That happens every curling game.  As the game was originated in Scotland.

As far as greening Olympic spoiler threads goes, I'm starting to suspect that the modmins have adopted a last thread in wins policy.

We've been saying in my house that the terrorists should just let everything be. Putin and Russia have made themselves look bad enough. Attacking them would be like what happened with Bode Miller in the prime time thread: you go from hating their guts to feeling sympathy for them.

"Thistle and Shamrock" FTW.  Cool that they're doing it every time, this was the first time I caught them on the stream I was watching.

Why have a terrorist strike? Maybe just cave in the roof of the Iceberg Metrodome-style in the middle of the night and make the remaining events there go to some other rink for the rest of the Games.

Has anyone lynched that NBC reporter that made Bode cry yet?

I ask because I don't want to have to wait till tomorrow prime time to find out.

If I'm the US Olympic Committee, I'm telling NBC this morning "she's out of here or you're getting no more interviews from any US Olympians."

I don't watch the normal NBC coverage.  Just hockey online really.  What did she do?

Nice shot by the Russians, triple takeout.  Let's see if GBR takes a point or opts to blank to retain hammer

2014-02-17 12:17:17 AM
Not that I don't enjoy watching the women's squads, but why do they even have separate men's / women's divisions?  It doesn't seem like the men's larger size and muscle mass would give them a really big advantage in curling; I'm pretty sure that both the Canadian and British women's curling teams could kick the poop out of several of the men's teams.  Why isn't this a mixed sport?

Russia skip with a triple takeout, albeit a slightly easy one

It is played as mixed doubles fairly frequently, and there's a mixed quads even annually in Canada. Not sure why the WCF doesn't have a world mixed champs.

I'm pretty sure that's a sticky wicket for the British curling team. They'd much rather be referred to as Scotland, except colonized by wankers, etc.

We've been building to this, haven't we? The point where things get so bad they have to start pushing things back. But they're not going to get better. That snow isn't getting any less melty. Eventually they have to send the athletes out in it, because it's not like you can go 'welp, no biathlon this year, let's try it again in South Korea in four years'.

zippolight2002: I don't watch the normal NBC coverage. Just hockey online really. What did she do?

She asked Bode Miller questions until he cried. First non-boring interview all Olympics. Sort of the opposite of that Richard Sherman interview in feel. Definitely not opposite in boredom factor

Hmm, interesting perspective.
While their ultimate skill levels are similar and differing physical abilities not seriously advantageous, it is true that this would ultimately mean fewer female Olympians getting to compete.  I'm on board with that.

Frankly, I like watching the women better anyway :p

JayCab: It is played as mixed doubles fairly frequently, and there's a mixed quads even annually in Canada. Not sure why the WCF doesn't have a world mixed champs.

It would make sense. Require 1 male and 1 female sweeper and that would equal things out.

JayCab: Oh, hell.

I've got to give them this, the American curlers have been very consistent this Olympics

zodiac1968: Sweeping.

Meh.  I'm unconvinced that that's actually a serious advantage for the men.

Watching both the men's and women's squads in this Olympics I can't really say that I've seen the men make their shots significantly more often, and even if there is a difference then sweeping is only a fraction of the reason for that.
