what the fark is Rmoney angling at this time? does he honestly think that he's going to run again? he already has more money than god, so it can't be that.

or is he just incapable of accepting the fact that he got his ass handed to him by somebody he probably thinks of as an uppity shine-boy?

Clinton banged an intern and smoked a cigar that was steeped in her hoohaw. George Bush killed over 100,000 people including thousands of Americans.

One of those things is none of our business.

Not agreeing with Romney, but subby seems to be forgetting some things. Clinton deployed the military over 20 times and there were terrorist attacks on the WTC, Khobar Towers, OKC, embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, soldiers in Saudi Arabia, and the USS Cole, as well as several terrorist organizations gaining strength.

As for the prosperity, Clinton rode the dot com bubble and continued riding the housing bubble (as had the three presidents before him). When those collapsed, our economy collapsed.

So when Bush declared war on a foreign nation costing the American public over a trillion dollars, then discovered that nation did not have weapons of mass destruction, that wasn't a major worldwide embarrassment for America???

Oh, bless his poor dear sweet heart, he thinks that real people care about what he thinks...it's like he thinks he's people...

I have to say that I'm a bit baffled by this attention to Bill Clinton in regard to Hillary's possible running in 2016.

It's a weird tactic. To make the spouse that was cheated upon somehow tarnished. Because if she'd been a better wife, Bill wouldn't have strayed? It's an odd tactic to try to reverse slut shame her for staying with her husband and making the marriage work.

At best, it's a sort of trying to backspatter her with her husband's deeds, which are somewhat reduced when you remember they didn't split, but made it through that rough patch. The message, "If she was a better wife, then he wouldn't have cheated!" isn't stated outright, but implied, and that isn't exactly going to resonate with a lot of women voters--on either side of the fence. Especially not with folks like Newt thinking about ANOTHER attempt to get on the ticket, and only highlighting that men who cheat, often dump their blushing brides. It's a disjointed sort of narrative, that really has no positive endgame for the RNC, save in the minds of spastics who are trying to dream up a slow ramping up of rhetoric, and figure, "She got cheated on! She wouldn't put out enough!" is a solid jab. Which sort of puts the folks bringing up this point into a very weird light.

So, by all means. Keep it up, you crazy, shining diamonds, because it only shows your own issues.*

*the above reposted from the redlit thread, because I really want to hear folks try to explain the purpose of this sort of tack. No, really, I want to understand exactly what folks hope to gain from this sort of thing, other than venting their spleen at Hillary, who isn't even a candidate yet...

We'll never know for sure, but I doubt had Gore won we would have seen a war in Iraq, a tax cut, and a returning of 'surplus' funds back to the taxpayers.

If your definition of prosperity or peace means "zero attacks on america" and "zero military deployments" then you'd better brace yourself, because that probably isn't going to happen again in our lifetimes.

I don't blame Bush for what he walked into. I blame him for how he responded.

This. If we hadn't blown so much money on Iraq, Afghanistan, and assorted handouts to friends of Bush and co., we would have been in a far better place to manage popped bubbles. And if we hadn't stopped Clinton's campaign against Al Qaeda, they likely would not have been able to pull off the 9/11 attacks.

But y'know, Gore was BOOOORING, and you could have a beer with Bush!

I believe the Official GOP Response is that "He didn't REALLY have a surplus! He fudged the numbers and blowjob and wharrgarbl"

To which the reply is, "He STILL got us closer than any other President, in that case."

2014-02-16 10:29:21 PM
Yeah, I just finished watching this cos it came on after the Nye v. Washburn Climate Change discussion thingy.

The high points or low points depending on how you look at these things included watching Romney bash on Putin for using the Olympics to heighten his own political profile without a hint of self awareness or irony, his continued insistence that gay couples were not equal to straight couples in terms of child rearing and then watching Gregory show Mitt a clip of Mitt's documentary in which Mitt declared that anyone who won their party's nomination and then failed to win the general election was labelled a "loser for life".

That was all kinda fun.

The whole "we should judge Hillary Clinton by Benghazi and not the fact that her husband embarrassed the nation" crap was just a tired rehash of the GOP's talking points this week and truly the least interesting part of the interview.

Real surplus or not, the Bush administration thought we had one which is why they cut everyone checks to give the money back. So for any conservative to claim there wasn't one, when the guy they voted for acted like there was too, is extremely Fark-Independentish.

As much as I hate to say it, but this is pretty much spot on.

The Clinton "economy" was also in large part funded by people maxing out their credit cards as "personal debt" rose to an all time high during the 90's. Personal bankruptcy filings followed exponentially.

The other thing to remember is that the technology that gave us the internet was used for military applications until Ronald Reagan released it to the private sector which gave us the "tech boom" that followed. The only thing Clinton had to do was not screw it up.

Clinton also gave us the 1996 Telecommunications act which enabled companies like Clear Channel to gobble up unlimited amounts of radio and television stations which gave them the ability to dominate entire markets. Then there was the DMCA, DOMA, "Don't Ask, Don't Tell", NAFTA, plus the whole "Monica" thing motivated voter turn out in  2000 as people voted for Bush as a way of voting against Clinton retroactively.

I'm an old school Democrat, but Clinton was not a particularly good President.
