Ignore that guy, Bubbles. He's just jealous of your smooth skin.  We'll find the right student for you.  One you can talk to, like you talk to me.

No, that's why you have stuffed animals in the office. It puts people off their guard. I'm awesome in video conferences.

It's good because it reflects who I am.

That's just wrong, for a bidness professor. Now if the guy were a sociology prof, then he could make up lame ass excuses for having his blow-up friends present.

CSB time...

Back in '87, my brother in law and his family were down visiting and as part of their visit they went to Kennedy Space Center. At the end of the tour, they were in the gift shop looking for souvenirs to bring back with them. Keep in mind, this was less than a year after the Challenger disaster. Anyway, pointing upwards at a shuttle replica dangling from the ceiling, my brother-in-law's wife unthinkingly asks the sales clerk, "How much for the blow up space shuttle?" to which the sales clerk archly replied, "We prefer to call them 'inflatable', ma'am."

They are not gender-specific, they are poly(vinylchloride).

Also, I had to fool the internet into thinking I was in Canada to watch the video because Sochi?

Im pretty sre real dolls are like vibrators, you never imply ownership, its A real doll not your real doll.

It's offensive because the blow up dolls are black.

That article sounds so much worse without the video that's in some of the other versions.

The blow up dolls are inflatable people in suits.
The profanity is a poster saying "Get shiat Done".
They're also surrounded by a bunch of stuff that looks like it came from Think Geek and a disco ball.

If they have no problem with profanity in his class slides, I'm not sure why this is worse.

2014-02-16 03:00:43 PM
Isn't there a "creepy" tag for crazies like this?

2014-02-16 03:00:49 PM
The inflatable people make it appear as if someone is working.

Where can I get a couple of those for my office?

I suppose they could be if you were weird enough... but then you probably should be avoiding offices as well, and that's going to really hurt your job prospects after studying business.

Student: "Uhh... I wanted to, uh, discuss the last assignment? I hope you've got an hour or two, I've got a lot of questions."

Professor: "Oh of course, ask away."

Student: "Great. For starters, this chart on page 33 is kind of confusing. If you compare it to graph 7a in the previous chapter..."

Professor: "Psst! Sorry to interrupt, but I think Jada's checking you out!"

Student: "I'm sorry, what?"

Professor: "The hot little number in the corner, Inflata-Jada. She's giving you the hungry eyes! Want me to introduce you two? And then maybe I could 'step out for coffee' and leave you two alone for awhile, wink wink?"

Student: "Wha...? No! I just want to talk about tonight's homework, okay?"

Professor: "Yes, yes, of course. Maybe you'd like to talk to my assistant, Miss Titty Tutor? She's the one next to Jada, and she's quite the little teacher... of advanced biology, hint hint. Would you like me to set you up for a private lesson?"

Student: "Dude, you are SICK. I'm never coming to your office again!"

STUDENT RUNS OUT

Professor: "About time. It's getting harder and harder every year to get an uninterrupted break."

Inflata-Jada: "Tell me about it. You wouldn't believe how many times the cleaning crew visits your office every night."

OK,  being serious here now...

My sister is an elementary school music teacher. And when the kids are too shy to sing, she gives them a puppet to sing "through" and it works fine.  Some people are more relaxed if they're projecting.

So this is a bit extreme, and kinda creepy, but it's the same concept.  You need people to accept that a different thing is happening right now and they need to relax, put themselves into another context and just express themselves.

There's the scene in the Dead Poets Society where Robin Williams covers up the kid's eyes and lets him express himself freely without worrying about what the other kids think.  And he has his first, albeit scripted, flash of foresight and imagination.

More people could do with a bit of "off-putting oddities" in their lives.  Don't want to sound too Dave Barry'ish, but "Off-Putting Oddities" would really be a good band name....   Anyway, let them have their weirdness, you never know, you might get the next great creator out of the mess.

Between you, and the article, so far, you are the ONLY one mentioning this concept.

What is a "profane" poster?  The blow up dolls are kind of silly but I want to know how much butt hurt there is over the posters.  My guess is that they are all kind of silly, but I would like to know if any are truly inappropriate before passing judgement.
