I have a wager with a colleague on when a recently married colleague will get his divorce. Is that bad?

There is a nasty tinge to this.

That said, has anyone ever listened when a friend warns them off a new love interest?

Nope. Hence why it is done so little. Better to watch your friend crash and burn and just be there to pick up the pieces when it's all over.

No. Start a Pool at the Rehearsal Dinner, THEN, you're a pad person,

I've warned more than one friend about an abusive or otherwise dickish boyfriend, as gently as possible. And you know what happens every time? I lose a friend. So yeah, I'd rather just wager anonymously.

Chicks dig big di -- hey we're allowed to use that word on here?  Isn't that considered obscene?

Or as many women call it, group discussions, or a 'we have to go to the bathroom' moments.

Genital slang obscene? What kind of coont would make a filter like that?

Something tells me this would mostly be used by jealous or possessive friends to try and sabotage decent relationships rather than decent friends trying to help./Knows a thing or 2 about jealous and possessive friends of partners

Would repeated heavy beatings fall into the category of medicine?

Exactly. And if it's family it just makes it worse.

So I'll take ten bucks on she cheats on him before he cheats on her, and a 5 dollar side bet on somebody getting their.car keyed

Even the most abusive man can be changed by the love of a good woman. Those friends are wrong.

Sure. Love works miracles. Just like your friend's new boyfriend who has cheated on every other woman he's ever been with will be faithful to her - because with them, it's different.

Exactly. They're different than all the other girls.

You seem to forget it takes two to cheat: the cheater and the person that drove them to cheat.

Some are born cheaters, some achieve cheating, and others have cheating thrust upon them.

The longer a relationship goes on, the more boring and prisonlike it becomes.  Better that it has an expiration date.

I'd argue that there are some folks who are just born cheaters themselves, though. I know guys that have cheated on the sweetest, most loving women, and women that have cheated on guys just trying to do the right thing. That being said, I'm with you on clinton...

Whenever a couple we know breaks up, I always tell my wife that some folks automatically blame the man, some the woman and a few of us real wierdos consider it none of our f-ing business.

Well we all have a face
That we hide away forever
And we take them out and
Show ourselves
When everyone has gone

Sorry, once you've warned them, maybe you attempt one intervention if they're that kind of friend.  Otherwise, you deliver your warning, then you sit back with the rest of the friends who have submitted their "I tried" vouchers.  You all drop your $5 on the appropriate date on the board at the entry,  Then you sit back, sip your adult beverage of choice, and wait.

Bull. If you're considering cheating, it's time to put your big-boy pants on. That could mean laying out your issues in hopes of fixing things or ending the relationship. Or deciding that you would rather suffer in silence than break things off. But if you're ready to cheat on someone who presumably trusts you, you should be able to nut up and talk or walk.

He (or she) is not.  Situations do not evolve from nothing.  They chose to be in that relationship.  Instead of us shaking our heads when he have to listen to their sob story about their partner doing the mailman / cashier at Kinko's, we should calmly advise them to take a look at themselves and what they contributed to the situation.  Rather than be helpless victims, advise the to man up and take some personal responsibility so that it does not happen again.

It's just like domestic violence, isn't it?  Really, both parties are to blame.  Wasn't there something you could be doing better, so that he didn't have to hit you?

While relationships fail apart usually for complex reasons, cheating is not complex and the blame lies solely on the cheater, by virtue of the fact that (s)he didn't have the guts to end the relationship first.

Ah, you talk of neuro-sensory negative enforcement reprogramming.
Not proven yet by science, but surely worth a try in such situations.

THIS, and also, unless your SO has some mind-control abilities that they're keeping secret, then "the cheater" and "the person who drove them to cheat" ARE THE SAME FARKING PERSON.
