So in the comments one dude writes this:

"This guy needed a new job that would provide coverage..not a handout from the rest of us."

So then the sister member of the guy who got the transplant responds:

"He had a job which he couldn't keep because of his health issues which began over 3 years ago. It took the doctors many months to diagnose his condition. He was young, healthy, working, supporting his family and not looking for any handouts from anyone. He got sick, lost his job, his insurance, etc etc. I am not a fan of Obamacare and do not wish to get into some sort of political debate with anyone. All I know is because of the new law my brother's life was saved, my niece and nephews have their father back and my parents did not lose a son."

So Obamacare literally saves her brother's life, but she's still not a fan of it. This is why America will never, ever have nice things that the rest of the first world has.

I don't know why this is a matter for debate. Any sane, logical person should realize that making sure EVERYONE gets health care means that your neighbors and other members of your community don't make YOU sick, kill YOU when they pass out while driving, go without psych meds and shoot YOU in a movie theater, and a variety of other things that basically come out to "Healthy community = Less risk to EVERYONE in the community, including yourself."

"But I don't wanna pay for someone else's health care!"

Fine. That's the same thing as saying, "I want someone else to spread a disease to me and my family because the carrier couldn't afford treatment." but you go ahead, enjoy knowing your tax dollars WEREN'T spent to raise the health and safety level of your community in this one way.

People who aren't for universal health care should be denied police, firefighters, clean water, safe roads, public schools, public parks, and clean air. If you're going to complain about "your" money being used for things that benefit everyone, then you should be allowed to opt out and not benefit from ALL the things your taxes pay for.

It's yet another example of how full of shiat those who claim free care was already available just by going to the ER. No, it often is not. This guy would be dead without coverage.

organizmx: So in the comments one dude writes this:

This country has far too many cold, cruel, inhumane pieces of shiat living in it. The guy probably goes to church and claims to follow Jesus too.

Obviously we should just let people die like the states that have refused to expand medicaid coverage that will almost entirely be paid for by the federal government. They're telling their own poor residents to fark off and die. It's what Jesus would do.

FTFA: Anti-rejection medicine costs $4,000 a month and must be taken daily to keep the new heart.

This is the next hurdle to tackle. There has to be a better method for negotiating the cost of medications. A Single Payer system would be very helpful.

I'm pretty sure it was ravenous, racist citizens in the mold of Henry Ford who wiped out the Indians, stole their land, and raided their livestock. And the "government" that assisted most with that was President Andrew Jackson--a racist Southerner confederate. Not really an American.

Mandating minimum coverage, than listing a bunch of preventative care that must be covered 100% that people won't need because, doesn't count as minimum coverage.   As an example, I'm a guy and don't need to see a gynecologist but it must be on any plan under the ACA 100%. Now that's just silly.

No, it means you have no idea of how insurance works.

Let this be a lesson for, at the least, catastrophic coverage.

Amazingly enough, the designers of the law had that in mind. The individual mandate -- to make sure everyone has insurance -- is there to eliminate free riders. That's combined with the guarantee that you can, in fact, get insurance.

It's almost as if the people who wrote the law thought about the problems and consequences.

Your point is taken, but the real time to worry about that is when American citizens stop being "us" in the eyes of government, and become "them". Which is where the GOP seems to want to go.

Leaving aside the sister's response, that has to be one of the most ignorant comments I've seen in a while. Who could honestly think anyone on the heart transplant list is fit as a fiddle and able work if only they would pick their lazy ass up off the couch and go find a job?

Luckily he was able to get a heart and now stands a chance of reentering the workforce and paying taxes again instead of being on disability until his kids collect his death benefits.

Obamacare is no more insurance than food stamps are insurance. It's a government handout. This guy personally decided not to buy insurance and then stuck it to the taxpayers when he got sick. Rather than applauding him you should be asking yourself why were you paying premiums-- money you could have been spending on furry costumes or marijuana or whatever it is you farkers do with your spare change-- rather than subsidizing guys like this?
