"That's My Bush" was kinda funny... and incredibly coarse.  But then 9/11 happened and nobody would think of making fun of George W's retardation.

I liked Studio 60.

Ooh...liked Journeyman.

I was going to say Chris Elliot's "Get a Life" but in looking it up that thing made it through two seasons! Who could forget Spewey!

Studio 60 would have been a good show if 30 Rock didn't exist.

I'm the first to say 'where is Firefly!' ?

Not a terrible list.  It did finally convince me to get a hold of Police Squad, which I've somehow never watched before.

I got legitimately pissed at FX for cancelling Terriers.

studio 60 was superior to 30 rock.  sorry, nerds, tina fey is vastly overrated.

problem with studio 60 was people couldn't get over chandler bing, he was GREAT on that show, and the only demographic that studio 60 consistently hit was old rich white people.

Undeclared, but not Freaks and Geeks?

Three Crooked Squirrels: Undeclared, but not Freaks and Geeks?

kukukupo: I'm the first to say 'where is Firefly!' ?

FTFA:

With this guide, we've placed the focus on shows that are beyond the obvious choices-no Firefly, no My So-Called Life, no Freaks And Geeks, no The Cape.

FirstNationalBastard: My So-Called Life

this show, while amazing while it was being aired, is un-farking-watchable now.  I am talking TERRIBLE.  Dated SOOOO poorly.

Freaks and Geeks is a superior show, hits most of the same notes, and remains very watchable.

I watched Terriers a few weeks ago on Netflix, quite good.
Saw Bent when it aired, was disappointed there wasn't more
Also love me some Clone High.

Might check out Andy Barker, P.I.  and Awake

If not for the horrible ending, I would have said Life on Mars US was worth watching. But, the ending was so bad it retroactively ruined the rest of the show. So, just watch the original UK Version, which is only 16 episodes, and roughly as long as one US season.

Surface with Lake Bell showed a lot of promise, it's worth a watch.

For a comedy, Worst Week was awesome, it's a shame it didn't make it.

House of cards season 2 on netflix.

Finished it last night. Amazing.

There is generally a reason a show doesn't last more than a season....

Exactly there was not room for both.  Studio 60 was deeper and not as mindless as 30 Rock, which meant it appealed to a bigger audience.

Which at only 24 episodes (across three seasons) is still only as long as a normal US network TV season.

In the case of That's My Bush,  Comedy Central is too cheap to hire pure actors in starring roles.  Just about all the stuff that's survived there are cartoons or loosely sketch based (meaning the stars pull multiple duties, like the 3 Workaholics guys being writers)

I don't see why both couldn't have survived. Despite the same sort of setting they were incredibly different shows. Studio 60 was a high-minded drama with comedic elements. 30 Rock was a pure comedy.

I liked 30 Rock early on, but the more time they gave Tracy Jordan, the more it became unwatchable.

I'm not. I loved that show, but you could have doubled its ratings and it still would have been the lowest-rated show in the history of the network. If it aired today it may have gotten a pity, prestige renewal, but back then it just wasn't feasible.

Serious question: are either "That's My Bush" or "Secret Diary" available on any of the streaming services?

That's My Bush is on Amazon, so odds are it's on all the other services.

"Secret Diary..." has never been released anywhere, so youtube might have an episode.

He and She (Richard Benjamin, Paula Prentiss, Jack Cassidy, Hamilton Camp)
Fair Exchange (Judy Carnes et alia)
The Rogues (David Niven, Gig Young, Charles Boyer et alia)
The Jean Arthur Show
The Building (Bonnie Hunt) [I was going to say Davis Rules but it made it to 2]
Police Squad

Loved that show and it really turned me on to Lake Bell, especially the scene when she strips down to a bra and panties and starts rubbing vasoline on her before jumping in the water.

Other than that, it had a lot of potential and was finally starting to get somewhere good with the finally cliffhanger.

Speaking of Police Squad, "When Things Were Rotten" is a one season MEl Brooks show set in the middle ages

I understand why they canceled it. Still stung though. Big fan of Donal Logue.

My vengeance will be neither swift nor entertaining! I will mete it out over decades, so that you will wonder if the misery in your life is manifest, the machinations of Leonardo Leonardo, or... some third thing. Good day!

That was such a good show. Much like NBC with Freaks and Geeks, ABC did everything in their power to make sure it wouldn't last past the first season --they  moved it all around the schedule with no notice and took weeks off for no reason at all.
