The scariest thing about this story is that at least two people thought "Fleetwood Peeples" was such an awesome name, there needed to be two people in the world with it.

TFA said the children appeared to be between 5-12 yo.  So, no.

Seems this guy's old man was a swimming instructor back in the day. I wonder, if just maybe, it was the (now dead) old dude's stash and the kid didn't know WTF to do when he found it cleaning out the estate. Maybe he was afraid to call cops when he found it (might be arrested, didn't want to ruin the family reputation, combination of the two).

That or he's an old pervert as implied in TFA. Either way, kiddie porn is just plain sick.

And, just as a side note, Uncle Bob's Storage sounds like somewhere you'd find all kinds of that kind of thing

"'The images appeared old indicating that the victims would be approximately 30-50 years old today,' the police said in a news release on Friday. "

That's impossible. Everyone knows that kiddie porn didn't exist before the internet began in 1995!!!!!

My guess is that he was visiting his storage locker to enjoy some of his stash. Ran into trouble somehow (broke a hip fapping to hard or something) and had to call for help. Responders noticed the cp next to his crusty towel and they got a search warrant for the rest of the locker.

Why would they need a search warrant?  If the stuff was out in the open inside the storage unit, isn't that enough for probable cause?

Also, gross.

I was just going by what TFA said. "Officers noticed evidence of child pornography in the storage unit and obtained a search warrant to see if there was more". He probably didn't have it all out in the open, just what was currently "in use".

That was the worst part of doing units back in the day. Now it's the crowds of lookers and dumb money. Late 90's a unit was $50 max. Now you just hope there isn't a transfer of criminal liability for the carbouy of used motor oil.

Do...do units often have carbouys of used motor oil?

Also, can you name the top ten most common things one finds in a storage unit?  Going by what my family chose to store I'm guessing mostly Christmas decorations, broke down twin bunk beds and old sheets in big plastic bags.

Well anyone who's dumb enough to have CP on printed media rather than on an encrypted flash drive or maybe a hidden TrueCrypt volume, or maybe using that algorithm where you can hide other files inside .jpg's, deserves to get caught for chrissake. I mean, just look at this f*cker. I'm torn between disgust and pity.

I was actually wondering the same thing.  Swimming instructor sounds like a job a perv would be attracted to, and given the age of the stash, all thirty years old or older, it seems weird that the guy wouldn't have added newer material over the years.  Also seems strange that he would be keeping it in a old storage unit, though I could see why he might not want to have it at home, if he had family.  Not saying that he is innocent, just saying that there is enough reasonable doubt, that a good lawyer could probably beat the charge.  Provided he didn't confess.   Hopefully if it is his stuff, he confessed.

The occasional mechanics unit would have that tank of motor oil. So you'd be looking in a unit full of questionable parts, maybe a crapped out tool chest, and 200 gallons of used motor oil and other fluids.

Otherwise, yeah it's mostly attic crap and document hoarding. Always look for something that hints professional, commercial, or whole house. I hope those damned shows fade out so prices come back to earth.

Yeah, like some missing women. Meth labs. You name it. If I were in charge of the cops, I would have brought a search warrant for all the storage units and multiple bolt cutters.  The judge would have signed off on the warrant, "Uncle Bob's Storage Units"?  Yeah, that's reasonable cause, right there. "Swimming instructor"?  When, in the 40's.  The guy looks like he would drown in the shower.

He may have purchased the CP back in the 60's/70's when it was legal to buy. Or as suggested from above, maybe he inherited it.

Cops want to make good use of the opportunity they get to spend on someone's property without a warrant.
Arrests get them brownie points for career advancement.
Why this guy didn't call an ambulance instead of nosy cops is anyone's guess.  The police are not your friends.

Maybe it differs from place to place. The last few times I called 911 for medical emergencies (mine and others), only the ambulance, and sometimes fire / rescue showed up.
