DamnYankees: Spacey and Foster are more famous

Foster is out...she came out at the 2013 Golden Globes.

Ian McKellen is out.  Spacey is still in the closet but it's pretty well-known that he's gay.

I hope to live long enough where nobody gives a shiat about this crap anymore and people don't need to hide or proclaim their sexuality.

I don't mean this as an attack, but it really shouldn't matter whether an actor is gay or straight.  A gay actor can play a heterosexual character, or vice-versa, and it shouldn't matter any more than an atheist actor portraying a Catholic or vice-versa.

And yet for whatever reason it seems to matter quite a bit to a lot of people.

no, it isn't.  what is clear, based on other threads, is that you pay no attention to what I say and decide you believe what I MEAN based on your own assumptions.

gay people are fine.  women are freaking awesome, I love having sex with them.

I said it earlier.  I have a bit of a problem with women that claim to be lesbian and then end up married to guys because it gives fuel to the fools that say gay people are not born that way, that being gay is a choice.

yeah, I don't like those people.

/What I really am is a conundrum, a fark liberal atheist that votes republican because while my views are often liberal, democrats are usually very wrong for the country and I will never forgive Tipper and her party for the censorship crap of the 80's.  Yes, republicans may not like your heavy metal, but they will fight to the death for your right to listen to it, while democrats court hollywood and the music industry but would love to pass laws that limit your right to consume the products those industries produce.

Oh, good lord -- you're one of those people? Tipper Gore blathering about and getting labels slapped on records 30 years ago is what to this day keeps you from voting Democrat? I haven't run across that posture here in quite some time. Way to fight the good fight.

see, i know you are trolling, but there is also truth in there.  like I said, Amber Heard was a straight up lesbian (there was no bi-sexual, she came out as gay) and then turned right around and is marrying depp.  because she was never gay.

sexuality is really not as fluid as you people like to pretend.

Yes. Everyone is bisexual. End of story. We like sex, and if we all took the sticks out of our asses and just got it on unprejudiciously with other people of either gender without having to resort to "gay" or "straight" labels, we'd all be much happier and less repressed.

Well, they kinda do because it isn't universally accepted and being in the closet is probably more stressful these days than being out.  It's probably harder for the males (no pun intended) than the females to come out.  Hell, we had a NFL prospect come out last week and the word was that it would hurt his draft status?  Seriously?  The only real question about his draft status should have been if the kid has the talent to play at an NFL-level.

What I was getting at is I hope I live long enough where the vast majority of people don't care who someone loves or has sex with.  Sure there will always be asshats, but I hope they're in the minority.

You're right that it shouldn't matter but that doesn't mean it does. Right now, Page is at the point in her career where she's on the "go to" list of actresses Hollywood casts as quirky romantic interests.  Now that she's come out, it will be interesting to see if she'll still be cast in such parts or, because Hollywood believes audiences aren't smart enough to know the difference between real life and make believe, she'll be suddenly be getting nothing but secondary character roles.  If it's the latter, it just show for all the talk about how liberal Hollywood is, it's just empty words when the perceived bottom line comes into play.

Yea I had no idea there was any word that he'd be gay, is it because he does a lot of theater?

It's because he is/was a handsome man who's remained single. I've heard the rumors, as mentioned above, but he's also been seen with girlfriends. He may be bi, but I think he's mainly just a reclusive person.

I've always loved Spacey's work. American Beauty one of my favs.  Kevin sometimes has an effete quality about him, which has had me think for a moment that he may be gay, but I didn't think enough about it to research it when I was done watching a movie of his.

I don't think most people concern themselves about a celebrity's sexual orientation any more than people care about a celebrity's personal life in general.  Gay is just a little more exotic is all, so it gets an extra look.  If the media can get a few more tongues wagging then they'll push the issue.

Who, after reading all 500+ posts, left with the same feeling as me? Feeling really, really sad about frepnog's wife? Because of 11 pages of comments, she was probably mentioned as much as Ellen Page. Poor poor stupid woman who just THOUGHT she was gay, until Frepnog realized she was too pretty for that bs, and slapped a ring on it. I hope she has a Fark account and can chime in. Call her over to computer and have her weigh in on discussion since she's being invoked every 5th post! I want to hear more about her conversion to the light! When did she realize she was too beautiful for all that and oops! mistake was made! Maybe one day Ellen Page will be stuck in an elevator with Bradley Cooper or Joseph Gordon Levitt and start to question everything that was said this momentous week.

Deal. EP is gay, big whoop. Lots of others were in past and will continue to be so. It will have no bearing on your marriage or any others (except Frepnog's--his wife might be succeptible.) But EP coming out is the same as NPH or any other. Did your wives run to the internet to argue about it on boards? That gay men were just faking it, because Clark Gable or Gary Cooper had several casting couch affairs, and wound up marrying women and having kids, they couldn't possibly have a nuanced life because too "handsome."*

*I understand am opening up can of worms with Clark Gable and Gary Cooper, but come on. Can debate sources but there are a lot of them about their early years in Hollywood. Sure it's probably par for course now.

bim1154: omeganuepsilon: bim1154: I had you flagged as a favorite for quite a while now.  You never disappoint.

How can you possibly miss the threads where I am nothing but an aggrandizing asshole?

I didn't say I totally agree with you all of the time, but most of the time I do.  Even now, I tend to understand what you are saying but some of it I don't particularly agree with.  I tend not to idolize celebrities for any reason.  I like being entertained by them when they apply their trade, but where as their personal lives are concerned... I pay little attention to them.

I know to some folks they can become a spokesman for a cause or what have you, but for me at least, I'm more apt to pick someone other than an actor/actress as a spokesman for cause.  There are a few who, for lack of a better term, are the real deal in some cases, but all in all.... actors/actresses in particular are pretty far down on my list of people I should take seriously.

And that will have to conclude my banter for now.  Enjoyed it... really I did.

That's why I like you.(have you fav'd too, though with a thoroughly inadequate note).

You can agree disagree on one topic and fully agree on another, or split the difference within points on a single topic and decide on the concept at large.

Too many can't see the forest because for the trees, so to speak.  Being as I'm not an english major or professional story teller, I have a tendency to wing it, to describe concepts in multiple ways.  I lose a lot of tl:dr kids to that.

What I like, even if people disagree, is people that wade through it and understand it.  As opposed to the people that I mention above, those that are apt to fly off the handle at a specific turn of phrase(or bend that turn into something warped).

Cheers.

frepnog: Sorry, but censorship is a very hot button with me. Its the same shiat they are trying to pull on gaming. And yes, the democrats are very much pro censorship and i can not forgive it.

That's the problem with being a two part government.  If I'm pro-gun, I'm a dirty republican.  If I'm pro-sexual freedom, I'm a dirty librul.  Pro-military, pro-choice, (obviously)anti-government in a sense.
/all of which happen to be true

The bad part about all of that mess, I'm neither.  Both parties have the illusion of strength of numbers and resort to that fallacy of democracy without actually discussing the issues at hand.  It lends them sturdiness in the faith that they are "right".

There is simply little room for objective views on specific topics.  too much emotion on this one, too much religion on another, too much total derp there, too much money to allow facts into it, too much corruption and too many favors owed to do what's most beneficial to the people, too much emphasis on ratings(and hence money) to be objective or fair. Too much ignorance and false logic to understand any given topic, but boy to people have an immovable stance and impenetrable defenses.

It's going to burn eventually. Either that or we're going to lapse into total and perpetual tyranny.(something that motivated american pioneers to favor democracy, many to favor equality, favor guns, etc)

Thankfully I'm just old enough to where I'm fairly certain I won't see it get really really bad.  It's today's youth and future generations that are going to pay.

It's not so much that you are wierd, it's that we've just passed peak liberal, and it's coming out, or becoming more noticable, if you will, that the liberal individuals can be every bit as controlling, ignorant, prejudice, etc as the worst conservatives/republicans.

Delusion, low intelligence, woefully low logical abilities, authoritarianism etc, these things aren't exclusive to either party.  One just has more publicized examples.

That's why I pointed out about the moral high ground above.  Any given individual can be a dullard, basket case, or an asshole, in fact, a great percentage of our population are just such people, whatever their political affiliation or stance on a topic.

They make all the same flawed arguments and take all the same inaccurate presumptions that make the opposition complete fools. Really, it's just a roll of the dice that landed them on the other side of the topic.

It's akin to making a wild guess and ending up being right, and then trying to brag about how they knew all along.  No, it was a shot in the dark, and attempting to ally themselves with the people who did struggle through all that messy "thought" can actually hurt causes, Ie create more strife and cement the opposition firmer into place. They shoot straight towards argument/outrage instead of cool and calculated reason, quite hypocritically.

That's what's really annoying about the liberals and atheists that are a bit too much the "vocal minority".  Some good ideas, now tainted with the same cognitive bias/dissonance and poor behavior that the other side formerly had exclusive rights to.

Very similar to the trope of one becoming just like their parents and not noticing the transition.  A lesson that, very sadly, only few learn.

I'm all for equal rights among all the races of man, all the (now)various genders, sexes, and states of mental being, as long as someone isn't a direct threat to society(ie, how murderers and thieves lose some, if not all, rights), not how gays are supposedly bad for society(what a crock of shiat argument).

well check out who pays attention to what I actually say and not what they imagine i say.

Fabricating a Villian.

They're about as intelligent as boob-quake people.  They come into these threads looking for a bad guy they can take the moral high ground against, even if they have to forcefully twist your words to paint you into that corner.

They think that because they're on the (perceived)moral high ground that qualifies them as intelligent and without flaw, the very same mental trap creationists and save-the planet types fall into when they go on their crusades.

Sadly, very common on fark.  It's never their possible flaw, if we argue with them, it's because we're bigots, not that they're wrong or whatever.  That's the classical rationalization of the outrage addict.  A kind of false persecution syndrome, they insist it's their "class" or "group"  that we dislike, to protect their precious ego's.

/Being  pro-gay is the moral high-ground, mind you, but they casually(be it willful ignorance or the genuine article) assume we're not on the same side and get defensive and argumentative.  You're Not Helping . jpg

I like how you accuse others of fabricating a villain, while you're fabrication a villain. Way to knock that straw man outta the park.

Not necessarily.

For stupid people who aren't very self aware, I could understand it.  However, most people do have the ability to compartmentalize what they see for viewing pleasure on the internet apart from what they do with people whom they are having sex.

Your argument is akin to saying that a person is in real life exactly how they behave on an internet forum, or that saying people's behavior when drunk is indicative of their "true" self.  A set of blatantly false absolutes.

granted, one example does not mean much.  unfortunately, if you do some research, you find plenty more.

ann heche came out as gay.  married a dude.
lindsey lohan came out as gay.  dates only dudes these days.
amber heard came out as gay.  marrying a dude.

once again...  not sure what to tell you.

Sorry, I was wrong. There's more than a dozen. Here you  go.

I'll give you Heche and Heard. I refuse to give you Lohan on the basis that she's a horrible attention whore. I never heard her claim to be gay, but I would have assumed she was lying. So you have two examples out of dozens.

Your argument boils down to "A couple other people came out as gay and married guys, plus she's too pretty." You'll have to excuse me if I don't find that convincing.

And FWIW, I think the "she's too pretty" argument works against you. I don't find her attractive at all.

when an actor comes out as gay, yep he is gay.

when an actress comes out as gay, it's a ploy.  unless it's ellen degeneres or rosie or jane lynch.

here is a pretty good rule of thumb.  if the actress "coming out" is really attractive, the chances of her ACTUALLY being gay are pretty slim.

in a few years (just like I called it with Amber) Ellen Page will be marrying some dude and it will be all "oh i never said I was gay, I am bi".

Jim Parsons is openly gay.  And I'm surprised no one has mentioned Ellen DeGeneres's wife Portia de Rossi.  There's so many big name gay celebrities it's hard to keep track of them all.  Ellen Page, while in my opinion a fine actress and someone who's work I tend to enjoy, is not near the top of the list of really famous gay actors.

Also, as for NPH's career, for TV and film it had effectively stalled prior to Harold and Kumar.  Someone told him he was in the script and he should put a stop to it, but he jumped at the opportunity to be in it.  He credits that role with leading him to his role on HIMYM.

A 1997 article in  Esquire magazine implied homosexuality. In 2004, he was mugged at 4:30AM in a London park, but Spacey declined to report the incident, eliciting further rumors. Finally, in 2008, a series of pictures surfaced from Croatia of Spacey in a bar, engaged in some manner of unexplained but odd horseplay with another man's naked backside. In October 1999, asked by  Playboy about gay rumors, he replied in part, "It's not true", and in 2000, his Academy Award acceptance speech referred to a girlfriend."

Ok. I've still never been that impressed with her acting. Too nasally.
