Now that I think about it - is she the most famous openly homosexual actor? Spacey and Foster are more famous, but aren't out of the closet (unless you count that weird speech Foster made).

I thought Ellen Page was already out of the closet, though.

I'd like to say no1curr, but unfortunately we, as a society, haven't gotten to that point yet. Plenty of people will care plenty, and I'm sure they'll be here shortly to tell us about how much they don't care, and that people should keep it to themselves.

I thought she was gay because she acts a bit like a man.. And it comes through in her acting from Trailer Park Boys (maybe even especially TPB since this was before she'd received intense coaching) all the way through Juno. I thought if she wasn't gay, she was a hellova tomboy, NTTAWWT.

I don't mean this as an attack, but it really shouldn't matter whether an actor is gay or straight.  A gay actor can play a heterosexual character, or vice-versa, and it shouldn't matter any more than an atheist actor portraying a Catholic or vice-versa.

And yet for whatever reason it seems to matter quite a bit to a lot of people.

The reason people think he's gay is because he hasn't exactly hidden it, no matter what he mmaysay in interviews. Not that anonymous sources on the internet mean anything, but I have a friend who was an extra in a Spacey movie and said that he would walk around set holding hands with some twink. So what, this ^ never happened or it was all a sham?  Looking into a bit more, apparently most of it was rumors, but it still seems strange as they had been photographed together a lot.  She had been pictured with Leo as well whispering "sweet nothings" to each other.

Maybe she was using it as a front to not discourage discriminatory people from seeing her movies, or maybe she's bi and figured that saying "I'm bi" doesn't really have the same effect as going full blown gay.  Which is probably a true statement..

NobleHam: roflmaonow: NobleHam: Still don't get why people think Spacey's gay.

Yea I had no idea there was any word that he'd be gay, is it because he does a lot of theater?

It's because he is/was a handsome man who's remained single. I've heard the rumors, as mentioned above, but he's also been seen with girlfriends. He may be bi, but I think he's mainly just a reclusive person.

I've always loved Spacey's work. American Beauty one of my favs.  Kevin sometimes has an effete quality about him, which has had me think for a moment that he may be gay, but I didn't think enough about it to research it when I was done watching a movie of his.

I don't think most people concern themselves about a celebrity's sexual orientation any more than people care about a celebrity's personal life in general.  Gay is just a little more exotic is all, so it gets an extra look.  If the media can get a few more tongues wagging then they'll push the issue.

I didn't know Kevin Spacey was gay. That puts American Beauty in a different light.

No offense taken. I was referring specifically to the ending, where his absolutely straight character is murdered by a closet-gay homophobe who mistakenly thinks he's flirting with him or something. A gay actor choosing to play a straight husband and father who is murdered by a closet-gay homophobe seems like a decision with an interesting backstory.

HotWingAgenda: I didn't know Kevin Spacey was gay.

NNDB's assessment: "Matter of dispute. Because Spacey is never seen in public with partners and he refuses to discuss his private life, rumors abound. A 1997 article in  Esquire magazine implied homosexuality. In 2004, he was mugged at 4:30AM in a London park, but Spacey declined to report the incident, eliciting further rumors. Finally, in 2008, a series of pictures surfaced from Croatia of Spacey in a bar, engaged in some manner of unexplained but odd horseplay with another man's naked backside. In October 1999, asked by  Playboy about gay rumors, he replied in part, "It's not true", and in 2000, his Academy Award acceptance speech referred to a girlfriend."

You're right that it shouldn't matter but that doesn't mean it does. Right now, Page is at the point in her career where she's on the "go to" list of actresses Hollywood casts as quirky romantic interests.  Now that she's come out, it will be interesting to see if she'll still be cast in such parts or, because Hollywood believes audiences aren't smart enough to know the difference between real life and make believe, she'll be suddenly be getting nothing but secondary character roles.  If it's the latter, it just show for all the talk about how liberal Hollywood is, it's just empty words when the perceived bottom line comes into play.

Since he's rumoured to be gay too, I'm sure all he feels is worried about what her coming out implies about him.  Although people have been saying that their relationship was nothing but a co-bearding contract for a long time.

I'm stunned there are so many people who still refuse to believe that contracted fake relationships exist.  Hollywood has always done it, it will always do it.

i would love to see a popular male actor "come out" as gay, but then constantly get his picture taken in clubs making out with hot chicks.  and if anyone suggests he is bisexual he would get all pissed off and offended.  "i am totally gay!  i only like having sex with men!"  but he is never seen dating any other men, and then there is a leaked sex tape of him banging a pair of playboy models.  all the while he adamantly claims to be 100% gay.  i just think it would be funny to see a celebrity trolling the media that way.  would the media be able to speculate that an actor is actually straight?

bugmn99: They don't need to proclaim it now but that doesn't seem to stop them.

Well, they kinda do because it isn't universally accepted and being in the closet is probably more stressful these days than being out.  It's probably harder for the males (no pun intended) than the females to come out.  Hell, we had a NFL prospect come out last week and the word was that it would hurt his draft status?  Seriously?  The only real question about his draft status should have been if the kid has the talent to play at an NFL-level.

What I was getting at is I hope I live long enough where the vast majority of people don't care who someone loves or has sex with.  Sure there will always be asshats, but I hope they're in the minority.

The young woman was pleading with her to accept her as gay. Yea, she dumped the closeted straight girl. Pretty funny - she wanted so bad to be L.

Kissing Jessica Stein?

Thanks, I prolly would have never been able to find that otherwise.

enderthexenocide: i would love to see a popular male actor "come out" as gay, but then constantly get his picture taken in clubs making out with hot chicks.  and if anyone suggests he is bisexual he would get all pissed off and offended.

Corn_Fed: You supported a decadent, hedonistic LEZBO

What about lesbianism means "decadent, hedonistic"? Most celebrity lesbian couples I can think of, as well as the one real-life lesbian couple I know, are about as decadent and hedonistic as ham & cheese for lunch every day. Last time I got together with the couple I know, we talked about home ownership, the young ruffians who they think should be arrested, and roofing repair.

Think of some celebrity lesbians:
Rosie O'Donnel
Ellen Degeneres
Mary Cheney
This chick in the TFA

None of these people are particularly exciting... you just know their idea of a good time is ensuring financial stability and dressing in business casual. I'm not trying to claim that every lesbian couple is boring, but would bet that the average lesbian couple is more boring than the average of all couples.

To those who have responded to me, it seems you have a point!  To be honest, in my life experiences, most of the people who pose this way (especially with a kiss to the head) are romantically involved.  Obviously there are exceptions to everything, and I don't think I thought it through all the way.  I also do not know any gay people  extremely well, so I'm not exactly sure how they act in regular situations with guy friends and whatnot.

Jim Parsons is openly gay.  And I'm surprised no one has mentioned Ellen DeGeneres's wife Portia de Rossi.  There's so many big name gay celebrities it's hard to keep track of them all.  Ellen Page, while in my opinion a fine actress and someone who's work I tend to enjoy, is not near the top of the list of really famous gay actors.

Also, as for NPH's career, for TV and film it had effectively stalled prior to Harold and Kumar.  Someone told him he was in the script and he should put a stop to it, but he jumped at the opportunity to be in it.  He credits that role with leading him to his role on HIMYM.

The reason I thought he was gay is because I could've sworn he confirmed it several years ago. I like him as an actor and could care less one way or the other.

2014-02-15 03:20:16 AM
As for Zoe Saldana, isn't she the one who gave the confusing interview about how all of her family thought she was a lesbian but she's not, she's just androgynous, but oh, she could see herself settling down with a woman because she's androgynous that way. Nobody could figure out if it was her coming out as something other than entirely straight or not, so everyone just got really confused and carried on as if she is totally straight.

We may have seen the same interview. He did not confirm he was gay, but he did not deny it. He artfully danced around the issue with answers like "my private life is private" or some such. But he was smiling the whole time like a devil, lol.

Saying that you knew someone was gay all along is like saying that you knew that coin flip was going to be heads all along. No, dipshiat, unless there's proof, you were just guessing. And if you guess enough, you are bound to guess right eventually, hence the pseudo/bullshiat phenomenon known as gaydar. Same goes for the people here making lists.

This is actually true. I saw her walking on my block like 5-6 years ago and I noticed how flat her ass was when I walked behind her. She was wearing jeans. She always seemed like she would be really cool to hang out with.
Good actress. Hope she continues to do well.

Fallout Boy: Saying that you knew someone was gay all along is like saying that you knew that coin flip was going to be heads all along. No, dipshiat, unless there's proof, you were just guessing. And if you guess enough, you are bound to guess right eventually, hence the pseudo/bullshiat phenomenon known as gaydar. Same goes for the people here making lists.

It was somewhat big news a few years ago that she was outed as possibly lesbian, or at least bisexual, by someone with "inside information". But apparently that crazy blogger with completely unverified claims was taken totally at their word by most of Fark, so this is old news.

She comes off as someone who's Bi, but has had trouble with specific males and has decided to drop men altogether.

Not as uncommon as people may think, (aside from the 'tards that think "Bi" doesn't exist).

Not that sexuality is a choice, but deciding it's too hard to identify/bond with X(the opposite sex) is very much a psychological hang-up.  It's not about sexual desire, but social/personality compatibility, and therefore is a matter of choice, to go with what's more emotionally rewarding.

Disclaimer: Not saying "hang-up" is a disorder, just citing how emotional attitudes can be the sole factor in deciding to not sleep with people that you find physically attractive.  No different than choosing to not sleep with someone who's a complete biatch, only it is a whole category is set aside because of a tendency to behave in X manner, or have X hobbies, etc.

guys...

ellen page is riiiight about as gay as amber heard.

in other words, her career isn't going that well, she needs exposure, so OF COURSE she is gay.  Amber Heard was a straight up lesbian too until she really couldn't hide that she definitely bangs dudes (and is married to\is marrying depp).  Same thing will happen here - Ellen will be gay until she meets that guy that takes her, and then it'll be all "i never said I was gay, I am bi-sexual".

same shiat amber heard pulled.

I am totes surprised Kristen Stewart never pulled this shiat.  She just likes ganja and dick.  Altho I suppose now that the twilight crap is over, before long she'll be coming out as gay too.  try to invigorate that failing career.

see, i know you are trolling, but there is also truth in there.  like I said, Amber Heard was a straight up lesbian (there was no bi-sexual, she came out as gay) and then turned right around and is marrying depp.  because she was never gay.

AirForceVet: Cool that she came out bravely announcing her orientation.

Sad that she prefers females.

/Another dream dies in my heart.

Don't despair. She's still just a typical Haligonian gal at heart, she hasn't become the size of a beached whale or gotten a buzzcut yet, so I guarantee you a couple more bad movies, a few more  really trivial roles in video games or doing voice-acting, and a few more years of having the 3-0 mark first stare her in the face and then kick her in the ass and she'll end up plastered down at the Palace one summer night with a serious self-esteem problem, and if you play your cards right you'll probably be able to bang her against the town clock and maybe even take a selfie.
Just don't do her under the front steps, homeless sleep there and the smell could drive out a raccoon. And don't get plastered yourself and end up with that transformer who looks like and calls himself "Ellen". I know a beej is a beej but this character's handled more questionable meat than a Chinese butcher shop.

bim1154: Have to wonder how many of these women coming out are actually gay and not just doing it because it seems to be a fad.  It's a sad thing if they are using this for attention.

It's not a fad, it's "Hey, being gay isn't a career death sentence anymore (unless you play football), and the change of being raped, road-hauled then dumped in a field somewhere isn't what it used be! I suppose it's okay now."

Secondly, Who WANTS the kind of crazy this sort of thing would bring about? Sure, most people are okay with it now, but there's a decent chunk of assholes that are going to be screaming in her face the moment she goes to a public event to call her a rug munching dyke who's going to burn in hell.

Thirdly, go to your family, friends and coworkers and announce you're gay for funzies. Go on, I'll wait. When you come back, multiply that by 2000, and apply every asshole on the internet and television giving their worthless opinion on you.

Well, since you don't know much about gay people, I'll give you a piece of advice: If you have a girlfriend with large breasts, and don't want to see her groped (a lot) never take her anywhere there will be a group of gay men, ever.

There were two, if you count Anne Heche. But as for Amber Heard, I was looking for an actual quote of her saying that she's gay, and can't find one. The only quotes by her anywhere would imply that she's bisexual. In February of 2011, two short months after the GLAAD event where she came out, she said: "It's been frustrating as I don't label myself one way or another - I have had successful relationships with men and now a woman. I love who I love, it's the person that matters."

So really, he's just got Anne Heche.

Yes. Everyone is bisexual. End of story. We like sex, and if we all took the sticks out of our asses and just got it on unprejudiciously with other people of either gender without having to resort to "gay" or "straight" labels, we'd all be much happier and less repressed.

Sorry, I was wrong. There's more than a dozen. Here you  go.

I'll give you Heche and Heard. I refuse to give you Lohan on the basis that she's a horrible attention whore. I never heard her claim to be gay, but I would have assumed she was lying. So you have two examples out of dozens.

Your argument boils down to "A couple other people came out as gay and married guys, plus she's too pretty." You'll have to excuse me if I don't find that convincing.

And FWIW, I think the "she's too pretty" argument works against you. I don't find her attractive at all.

NDP2: ciberido: HotWingAgenda: DamnYankees: Now that I think about it - is she the most famous openly homosexual actor? Spacey and Foster are more famous, but aren't out of the closet (unless you count that weird speech Foster made).

I didn't know Kevin Spacey was gay. That puts American Beauty in a different light.

In principle you have a good argument. Unless I'm mistaken though her career peaked years ago. Not that she's disappeared but her career has been on a mild downwardish status qouish trajectory for years AFAIK. The historically likely forward projection for a 26 year old actress whose fame peaked 5 years ago is a slow slide to irrelevance. Hard to blame on the gay if that happens.

Before I became a happily married man, I had three fark buddies who were like Ellen.

Cute, waifish, dickey pants wearing, nose pierced, short haired, video game playing, black finger nailed polished, etc lesbians who drank jack daniels and loved turning "straight" girls out.

However, on the odd occasion I would run into at my local watering hole and few drinks in and a makeout session later, I usually had 2 day sleepover filled with freaky loving.

Well, you must care about something if you're bothering to type out (and defend) your theories on why Ellen Page isn't, in your opinion, actually gay but really faking it and will at some point in the future "come out" again as having slept with guys.

So, then, you don't care about fap fantasies. Fair enough. Neither did you say anything about the queer community's reputation, so that's probably out. Hmmm... could you be interested in promoting bisexuality and combating bisexual erasure? Are you just "calling it", as in the way one would make a bet? In that case, you wouldn't bother to have such a heated debate about it.

Hmm. Why do *I* care enough to bother, you're probably going to ask? I care about the reputation of the queer community and of bisexual erasure. And I'm bored. But mostly the first two.

moogoob: Ima4nic8or: Never heard of her before but that is one nice looking chick.  I doubt she is gay.  Its darn rare for a good looking woman to be gay.  She probably just hasn't been hosed by a real man yet.  Send her my way and I would have her begging for man meat in no time.

I kind of found the oafishness endearing. I chuckled.

LectertheChef: "It's been frustrating as I don't label myself one way or another - I have had successful relationships with men and now a woman. I love who I love, it's the person that matters."

of course she said that.  she met johnny depp on the set of rum diaries and all pretense of being gay withered under his cock.

Except of course, she said the very same thing at the GLAAD event. Her coming out consisted of her saying hey, that's my girlfriend over there. So, she never said she was gay, and neither did Lindsay Lohan. Lohan explicitly stated that she's bisexual. So now we're back down to just Anne Heche.

Are bisexuals not queer?

no.  just no.  the issue is this - there is now a generation or two of women that have never NOT had easy access to porn, and porn makes it look like girls doing girls is just normal and awesome.  so you have quite a few young women that for a while decide they are gay because boobs are awesome and girls can't get each other pregnant and eating pussy feels great and penises are scary.

Nope, not possible, because she's too pretty to be a lesbian, and because some other actress came out as a lesbian and then married a dude.

As a bisexual I realize that yes, I have the rare privilege of being able to choose what gender of partner I pursue.

Would you argue that by practicing my privilege I am doing harm to the queer community? That by not choosing to advertise myself as "gay" for having a boyfriend I am harming others? If so, that is what we call "bisexual erasure". While I CAN choose who I can date, I can't choose who I find attractive. I can't stop myself from finding an attractive woman attractive, no matter how long I make out with my boyfriend - it doesn't work that way.

So in your opinion I should, what? Just call myself "gay" and stuff the straight part of myself into a closet? That's awfully farking backwards.

at any time did you feel the need to suck a dick to find out if you were gay, or did you just realize that chicks made you feel funny in your pants?

it's porn, dude.  porn.  that is why chicks these days will do another chick so easily.  if man on man action was as mainstream as girl on girl, you MIGHT have more guys that have sucked one.  but it isn't like that in porn.  even in MMF scenes, the guys do the girl, NOT each other.  you have to seek out male gay porn.

Maybe she was using it as a front to not discourage discriminatory people from seeing her movies, or maybe she's bi and figured that saying "I'm bi" doesn't really have the same effect as going full blown gay.  Which is probably a true statement..

When I first moved to Jacksonville, Florida a buddy and I went on a bar hopping trip one fine sunny afternoon and ended up sitting in a coffee house/beer pub drinking the afternoon away when we had a chasing Amy moment that the people who started filtering in were of a particularly lesbian nature.

A girl and her girl sat next to us and we starting chatting and to our surprise we were in a bar in the middle of a pride march route.

The beers were flowing and we decided to go to a local english pub(the london bridge) and one of the girls asked if she could come with.

We hit the pub and drank until midnight and I said I was going to my apartment across the street to take a quick shower to freshen up(i had planned on calling a lady friend to come over) when the lesbian asked me if she could see my place, as she had always wanted to see the building.  So we went over to my place, and I dipped into the shower and next thing I knew I had naked, scruffy legged chick in the shower with me.  She told me she felt as if we had some sort of connection and it was now or never to try it out on the straight side of the street.

I was henceforth know as the guy who picked up a lesbian at a pride march.

About a week later I was out having dinner, and she showed up wearing a dress and heels, perfume, and told me that she knew I liked girly girls so she was going to try it out for awhile.

So as a bisexual do you watch more man on man loving or dude on chick hammering?

And as frepnog suggests, do you ever watch male porn and think "I would love to wrap my lips around that meat whistle."?

then here is what I propose - the same experiment others have done.

watch some hardcore gay porn.  then watch some hardcore straight porn.

one will turn you on.  one will very likely....  well, not.

my wife is a good example.  she has had sex with girls.  even enjoyed it.  but she is neither gay or bi.  gay porn (girl on girl) makes her laugh and seems silly.  straight porn makes her soggy and she flicks the bean.

2014-02-15 12:25:13 PM

moogoob: frepnog: moogoob: Why do you care?

oh sweet jesus, not this again.

I DON'T CARE.  it's a message board, people post stories and others post their thoughts.  i don't care if ellen page is gay and finds true love with a woman.  if she does, good for her.  everyone deserves someone to love.

moogoob: Or are you worried that your (hypothetical) fap fantasies are rendered null and void by this news?

there is not one mainstream female celeb that I fap to.  no need, with incredible levels of porn mere keystrokes away.  it's also why I am basically against graphic sex scenes in mainstream film.  you can't or won't show the real thing (or even with CGI), so no point.

ok, why is it that we can CGI exploding heads and put that in films, but can't show CGI penetration?  how is it not the same thing?

I don't have the vaguest clue who's right (and neither do any of you) but the idea that an actor with declining prospects would pull a publicity stunt that's well timed to get positive exposure is hardly groundbreaking. And it's hardly implausible that she's genuinely bi or pan sexual or some such but announcing "gay" because it's better pr. If in 5 years she meets Mr. Right there's very little downside to reversing field whether that is in her mind now or not.

Best of luck whatever you are girl.

there is NO WAY that having easy 24 hour access to porn has NOT shaped people's sexual preferences and what they are willing to do sexually.

porn will not make a straight man gay but it will definitely make a straight girl kiss another girl, even if only because they think it is what men like.

porn is also the reason my last long term relationship was with a girl, devout pentacostal, would not wear pants, would not cut her hair or wear makeup, but would swallow every drop and let me try out every kink in the book on her.

Sigh. Why does it always become about porn? Oh well. I'll bite.

It's not a very good comparison, and I'll tell you why. Gay porn is often performed with a lower budget and with lower-paid actors than straight porn. There is much less of it made, and less of a variety as a result. Are you into midget women dominating tied-up men with a vinyl-gloved handjob spurting into a glass which she then drinks? 1200 hits. Looking for the same thing on a gay site? You might find that number of hits of boring, missionary ass-humping. If you're lucky.

Ahh, here's a good example: Blowjob videos. Looking for them on a straight porn site? You've got professionally filmed, you've got amateur, had and soft core, women sorted by hair colour and breast size. High def and 3d, in some person's home or at a gloryhole. Lots of choice. Same thing on a gay site? A few amateur videos, a handful of homemade, a handful of gloryhole. You could try to narrow your search to "twink" or something but you'd always get mislabeled stuff anyways.

Not to say there isn't good gay porn on the interwubs, there is but its hard to find.

Now, if you were to have asked "when you watch straight porn do you watch the guy or the girl?" I'd have answered "yes". ;) Does that answer your question?

2014-02-15 12:38:39 PM

moogoob: yes it does certainly play a role in shaping people's sexual expectations does not

Not necessarily.

For stupid people who aren't very self aware, I could understand it.  However, most people do have the ability to compartmentalize what they see for viewing pleasure on the internet apart from what they do with people whom they are having sex.

Your argument is akin to saying that a person is in real life exactly how they behave on an internet forum, or that saying people's behavior when drunk is indicative of their "true" self.  A set of blatantly false absolutes.

2014-02-15 12:40:29 PM
I totally don't care about this. But I will make plenty of posts stating exactly how I feel, declaring myself right, ignoring all evidence to the contrary, and using anecdotal data to prove myself right.

2014-02-15 12:43:10 PM

moogoob: Does that answer your question?

no.  the question is "do men AND women really both turn you on, or are you simply WILLING to have sex with either?".

when watching porn, I watch the man and the woman as well.  difference is the fantasy - I want to BE the dude in the movie.  I don't want to DO the dude in the movie.

are there truly bi-sexual people?  possibly, but the science doesn't support it in general.  doesn't mean that people aren't WILLING to do things.  what it DOES mean is that supposed bi or gay women often end up married to men because they were never gay in the first place.

gay men often hide their sexuality and pretend to be straight (and later on shock people by finally admitting that they are really gay), but it is generally only females that play at gay and then end up in straight relationships.  are there lesbians that marry men and pretend to be straight?  sure, but not in anything that resembles equal numbers.

Wow. The troll is strong with you. "Science doesn't support"... where the hell did you get that? That makes... opposite sense.

So my bf doesn't turn me on? The number of hot women I've swooned over were nothing, I must have been imagining it? Right.

I know that gay people feign straightness due to societal pressures - it's a condition called "being closeted", or "on the down-low" or in extreme cases becomes a full blown "lavender marriage". It's societal pressures - not science, not nature, not reality, but societal pressures that make up the disparity between men who experiment with men and women who experiment with same.

Actually, wait a second. Do you have numbers? Like as in reputable stats? Heck, even the Kinsey study would be great. What are the difference in actual numbers between males who experiment with homosexuality and women? What could cause that? Could pressure be the reason that they aren't open about it? And could this whole "girl-on-girl is hot" thing be the reason why girls are open to either experimenting openly? (IE it's accepted, and if they don't actually end up liking it at least they've turned on the guys) Maybe.

So to answer your question, yes, guys and girls do both turn me on. I, unlike your supposition, actually exist.

there is truth here, but no more so than saying "today, girls will do girls because porn has made it mainstream".  however no amount of societal pressure will give a man a boner if they just aren't inclined to get one, but stick a vibrator on a clit and you are probably going to end in orgasm regardless of who is holding the device.

moogoob: So to answer your question, yes, guys and girls do both turn me on. I, unlike your supposition, actually exist.

never said you didn't.  i asked you to perform an experiment and see what the results are.  I have a feeling that the results MIGHT just surprise you, much like the gay men that were surprised to find out in the study done that proved that straight girls sucked dick MUCH better than gay men.

moogoob: omeganuepsilon: moogoob: yes it does certainly play a role in shaping people's sexual expectations does not

I think you were trying to quote whatsisface who had been quoting me. I was making pretty much your point.

No, I quoted you, can  you not read?  Your name in my post is actually a link to that exact post.

His view on what porn fuels is a bit more out there, but you're both in that same direction away from reality.

frepnog: omeganuepsilon: For stupid people who aren't very self aware, I could understand it. However, most people do have the ability to compartmentalize what they see for viewing pleasure on the internet apart from what they do with people whom they are having sex.

and lots of girls on college campuses are gay until graduation.

I made a post earlier that you may find interesting.

In addition to that, I will say that you are right in a general sense.  There are a lot of lipstick lesbian's out there, some of which are very straight.
For those who may not understand the referrences:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lipstick_lesbian

/I didn't know the "US version" of the term was supposedly more simply hot lesbians.

Really, it takes all sorts.  That was my point about how absolutes are generally wrong.  Variance in people is really high, and when you factor in psychology, just about any scenerio that one could come up with there will be people that will fit it.

People lie about their sexuality for attention, or to avoid attention, or are not inward looking enough to really know what they mean when they say words(not being self aware or even half intelligent is fairly common), they just blurt them out without any seriousness.  Some people latch onto a term or label for the status of it(not to be confused with attention whoring, though it may be somewhat tangential).  Some just need to express their uniqueness(quite often in a wishful manner).

As I said, it takes all sorts.  I can understand coming out to help the cause, but it's mired in a lot of people who do so for various other reasons.

I can't make any claim to truth about Page, especially as she's been more of a media darling than someone who's life is extensively covered.(IE tom Cruise, who's a nutbag whatever the case of his sexual identity).

Spacy and Travolta.  Now those may be be actually gay in the sense that most gay men are, but find a thrill in doing the forbidden.  Spacy actually played a role somewhat like that in  Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Debauchery in secret for the sake of debauchery in secret, a common archetype for Rich & Royal.

Maybe that's even where the rumors about him come from as I've not seen any sort of reason for questioning his orientation.(not like travolta at any rate with a lot of media coverage and pictures surfacing)

i don't ignore anything.  you say "BUT LESBIANS" and I say "KEEP MARRYING MEN".

I don't believe for an instant that Ellen Degeneres will ever marry a man, because gay people and lesbians are real.

I don't believe for an instant that Ellen Page WILL NOT end up married to (in a relationship with) a man because she is obviously not a lesbian.

I welcome someone disputing my points because, hey, I might learn something.  You have simply decided that I am WRONG WRONG WRONG and will hear nothing else.

frepnog: because she is obviously not a lesbian.

Your argument that she is not a lesbian is "She's pretty, plus those 3 names." That's not convincing, at all. You trying to tell another Farker you know his sexuality better than he does is not helping your case either.

I'm not sure if Kevin Spacey is "in the closet" (in a deliberately-wanting-to-keep-his-sexuality-a-secret way).

He gave an interview a long time ago where he was asked not specifically about his sexuality but something about his private life, and he gave a reasonable answer where (paraphrasing) he said "as far as I'm concerned, the less the greater public know about my personal life, the more convincing my character portrayals in acting can be."

Considering how little about his personal life in general we know, I think he's just guarded about everything.

grumpfuff: I provided a list of 50+ women who have come out as lesbian, and yet to marry a man. No response from you on that.

really?  you provided me a list of supposed lesbian and bi-sexual women, some of whom are very much with men.  the second goddamn woman on the list is married to a man and the 6th of them came out as bisexual right around the time she was trying to re-invigorate a film career that was headed nowhere much, has been married multiple times to nothing but men and is still with (and breeding) with a man.  Some lesbian.  Oh, excuse me, "bi-sexual".

grumpfuff: You trying to tell another Farker you know his sexuality better than he does is not helping your case either.

2014-02-15 01:41:47 PM

grumpfuff: No, I did dispute them.

But not very well.  You cite his inability to produce examples.

Out of the 9 people on the planet, how many do we all know?  A tiny handful.  Not being able to find a large number of examples within that group is not indicitave of there simply not being any, more likely that your lack of information is indicative of a sheltered life.

Your argument is akin to arguing that the sun is purple, at midnight, and excluding technology and the word of others and common knowledge itself.

See my post above about human variety.  They do exist, it "is a thing".  There are even terms for such people who are or seem wishy washy or fluid.  Hell, "gender fluid" is a thing.

But that doesn't fit the agenda, so it's wrong, Wrong, WRONG.

See, you're both guessing or speculating.  You are the one offering an argument rooted solely in zealotry and faith here, hence the logicly flawed argument(always the case when there's nothing to support an argument).  Frep even acknowledged that he could be wrong, and good for her if she finds a woman she loves.(paraphrased).

They're about as intelligent as boob-quake people.  They come into these threads looking for a bad guy they can take the moral high ground against, even if they have to forcefully twist your words to paint you into that corner.

They think that because they're on the (perceived)moral high ground that qualifies them as intelligent and without flaw, the very same mental trap creationists and save-the planet types fall into when they go on their crusades.

Sadly, very common on fark.  It's never their possible flaw, if we argue with them, it's because we're bigots, not that they're wrong or whatever.  That's the classical rationalization of the outrage addict.  A kind of false persecution syndrome, they insist it's their "class" or "group"  that we dislike, to protect their precious ego's.

Yes, I realized later I should have examined the first link better, because it claimed to be lesbians and the first few were bisexual. The second and third one, however, were fine.

frepnog: I never said that.  I asked someone to perform an experiment.

That serves absolutely no purpose other than in your imagined head. I'm a straight guy. Most straight porn(and lesbian porn) doesn't turn me on because of how laughably ridiculous and fake it is. What does this say about your "experiment"?

Yes, your example of one woman who said she was a lesbian, then married a guy, is so convincing. Never mind the other two examples were people who said they were bisexual. Never mind the dozens of famous lesbians that have not married men. Also never mind that by your "she's too pretty to be a lesbian" logic, that means she must be a lesbian, because I don't find her pretty.

Well, you must care about something if you're bothering to type out (and defend) your theories on why Ellen Page isn't, in your opinion, actually gay but really faking it and will at some point in the future "come out" again as having slept with guys.

Based on other threads it's pretty clear that frepnog hates homosexuals and women.  So a gay woman is REALLY going to grind his gears.

It's also a silly argument since Hollywood may be gay friendly in the abstract, they're still busy telling actors not to come out if the want to have a career. Heck, there were a ton of stories about how Zachary Quinto wanted to come out long before he did, but his people kept insisting that he wait because he'd get blamed if Star Trek tanked.

grumpfuff: I'm a straight guy. Most straight porn(and lesbian porn) doesn't turn me on because of how laughably ridiculous and fake it is. What does this say about your "experiment"?

not much.  watching girls have sex does little for me (watching girls kiss is a turn on, but watching girls eat pussy is boring because they really have no idea what they are doing). I skip most girl-girl scenes and really don't understand why pretty much every mainstream porno has at least one. I am also not going to fap to most mainstream porn because, well, most is shot by morons who will cut to james deen's o face right when I am about to get there, ruining the moment.

Porn that turns me on - watching a pretty girl suck a dick, a pretty girl taking it from behind, fairly vanilla really.  I'm far kinkier in real life than in the porn I consume.  Point is that the porn people REALLY consume is usually secret, just as often what REALLY turns someone on is secret, and I'll bet money that there are many supposed bisexuals that are fapping to one kind of porn and not both.  My wife is a perfect example, as I stated earlier - she claimed at one point in her life to be lesbian.  She dated and had sex with girls.  She was never a lesbian or even bi, what she was was WILLING to have sex with girls.  I have watched girl-girl porn with her (hell I've watched all kinds of porn with her) and I have noticed that girl girl scenes do not dampen the tunnel whatsoever.  If she was TRULY bisexual, girls would make her wet.  They, well, don't.  Because she isn't gay or bisexual.  Dick makes her wet.

grumpfuff: Never mind the dozens of famous lesbians that have not married men.

I never said that lesbians were not a thing.  i said and stand by that many famous actresses "come out" and are not what they are claiming and that they keep doing it, and I'll keep calling them out as long as they do.  Is it possible that Ellen Page is truly a lesbian?  Sure, anything is possible.  is it LIKELY?  Not really, and we will see as time goes by, because I betcha in a few years you'll see the news piece "Ellen Page marries (insert dude)".  And you'll read the news piece "Ellen Page says she never said she was lesbian, WHY ARE PEOPLE SO HUNG UP ON SEX".

And I'll show you guys the news piece from years back when, yes, EP CLEARLY said she was a lesbian.  And you'll claim "HOW DARE YOU LESBIANS ARE REAL YOU BIGOT".

frepnog: atching girls have sex does little for me (watching girls kiss is a turn on, but watching girls eat pussy is boring because they really have no idea what they are doing). I skip most girl-girl scenes and really don't understand why pretty much every mainstream porno has at least one.

Most mainstream lesbian porn sucks because it is made by men, for men. Watching lesbian porn made by women, for women, is a very different thing.

frepnog: If she was TRULY bisexual, girls would make her wet.  They, well, don't.  Because she isn't gay or bisexual.  Dick makes her wet.

By this logic, because straight porn doesn't get me horny, I must not be straight. And since gay porn doesn't get me horny, I must not be gay either.

frepnog: i said and stand by that many famous actresses "come out" and are not what they are claiming and that they keep doing it, and I'll keep calling them out as long as they do.

No, you claimed this is the case then gave 3 examples(2 of which are highly debatable) out of the dozens of women actresses that have come out.

frepnog: is it LIKELY?  Not really,

Again, your argument for this is half-based on "She's too pretty to be a lesbian." The rest of it is based on above 3 examples.

frepnog: And I'll show you guys the news piece from years back when, yes, EP CLEARLY said she was a lesbian.

I have my doubts about this. People showed you the scripts where LL said she was bisexual, and you just went "NO SHE SAID LESBIAN!"

ciberido: Based on other threads it's pretty clear that frepnog hates homosexuals and women. So a gay woman is REALLY going to grind his gears.

no, it isn't.  what is clear, based on other threads, is that you pay no attention to what I say and decide you believe what I MEAN based on your own assumptions.

gay people are fine.  women are freaking awesome, I love having sex with them.

I said it earlier.  I have a bit of a problem with women that claim to be lesbian and then end up married to guys because it gives fuel to the fools that say gay people are not born that way, that being gay is a choice.

yeah, I don't like those people.

/What I really am is a conundrum, a fark liberal atheist that votes republican because while my views are often liberal, democrats are usually very wrong for the country and I will never forgive Tipper and her party for the censorship crap of the 80's.  Yes, republicans may not like your heavy metal, but they will fight to the death for your right to listen to it, while democrats court hollywood and the music industry but would love to pass laws that limit your right to consume the products those industries produce.

i think this may have to do with why celebrities are coming out now, as opposed to why they USED to.  because someone being gay tends to get a "yeah so what?" response, often with a healthy dose of "we already new that" it's not really news.

UNLESS, as seems to be the on the rise lately from what i've seen, celebrities are coming out as a way of saying "this is my partner who i've been with since *insert date here* and we're sick of the conservatives saying we can't get married and raise our family the way we want to."  i've noticed that since the anti-bullying/"it gets better/etc media blitz died down a bit and things like NOH8/"straight but not narrow" campaigns are gaining support as well, a lot of the celebrities coming out are doing so to support legalization of same-sex marriage.

frepnog: watching girls have sex does little for me (watching girls kiss is a turn on, but watching girls eat pussy is boring because they really have no idea what they are doing).

Only replying because at first glance that makes no sense.  Girls would know best, right?

Bad porn is bad porn, regardless of personal preferences.  A lot of it is faked or done when high as a kite or nervous and giggling.

I love some good lesbian porn(and solo female), where in the girls actually seem to be enjoying each other and the acts themselves, and not overacting or more simply being boring or laughing because it feels ridiculous(which a lot of porn is).

Seeing women convincingly get off(or at least enjoying(in a sensual way) working on it) is what gets me off.  It's that convincing bit that's somewhat of a rarity in the general wider world of porn.

That is why streaming/amateur porn is making it bigger.  People can search for what they like instead of "Sigh, the shiat I have to put up with . jpg"  That was all fine and well when that's all there was, it's like food. Hunger is the best sauce, and desperation will drive you to consume anything you can get your hands on.  People now have the luxury of being porn connoisseurs.

It's not so much that you are wierd, it's that we've just passed peak liberal, and it's coming out, or becoming more noticable, if you will, that the liberal individuals can be every bit as controlling, ignorant, prejudice, etc as the worst conservatives/republicans.

Delusion, low intelligence, woefully low logical abilities, authoritarianism etc, these things aren't exclusive to either party.  One just has more publicized examples.

That's why I pointed out about the moral high ground above.  Any given individual can be a dullard, basket case, or an asshole, in fact, a great percentage of our population are just such people, whatever their political affiliation or stance on a topic.

They make all the same flawed arguments and take all the same inaccurate presumptions that make the opposition complete fools. Really, it's just a roll of the dice that landed them on the other side of the topic.

It's akin to making a wild guess and ending up being right, and then trying to brag about how they knew all along.  No, it was a shot in the dark, and attempting to ally themselves with the people who did struggle through all that messy "thought" can actually hurt causes, Ie create more strife and cement the opposition firmer into place. They shoot straight towards argument/outrage instead of cool and calculated reason, quite hypocritically.

That's what's really annoying about the liberals and atheists that are a bit too much the "vocal minority".  Some good ideas, now tainted with the same cognitive bias/dissonance and poor behavior that the other side formerly had exclusive rights to.

Very similar to the trope of one becoming just like their parents and not noticing the transition.  A lesson that, very sadly, only few learn.

I'm all for equal rights among all the races of man, all the (now)various genders, sexes, and states of mental being, as long as someone isn't a direct threat to society(ie, how murderers and thieves lose some, if not all, rights), not how gays are supposedly bad for society(what a crock of shiat argument).

moogoob: LectertheChef: frepnog: LectertheChef: two short months after the GLAAD event where she came out

not sure what to tell you.

We are, but there are non-bisexuals on both sides (heterosexuals and homosexuals) for find bisexuality discomforting and would rather think of a person being either 100% gay or 100% straight.   Bisexual erasure is, alas, a real thing.

There are a lot of myths* about bisexuality being a "transition state" or a "lie" some homosexuals tell themselves because they don't want to admit that they're gay.

What's kinda funny is that the majority of lbgtq folk are bisexual: some other lbgtq folk try to claim that we don't even exist when, in fact, we outnumber them!

/* To be clear, I'm not calling these idea "myths" because I think they're NEVER true: I call them "myths" because they are treated as universal truths when they're simply not.

frepnog: how can you be in a lesbian relationship and not be a lesbian?

oh because you aren't one I guess.

"Lesbian" in this case is describing "relationship", not the person or people in said relationship. It is a lesbian relationship because there are two girls dating. Two girls dating is the literal definition of "lesbian relationship." If one of those girls then goes on to date a guy, the relationship she had with a girl is still a lesbian relationship.

There's a point of contention about celebrities trying to influence social/political movements.

1. They're actors, and generally speaking, not any sort of experts on anything but....acting(if that).
2. Many of them are nutjobs.  Lohan, Cruise, Bynes, Dickenson, Plastic surgery ladies that look like corpses...etc.
3. Many many obvious attention whores.

Some of it may be on good intention, but is largely based on faith that their limited understanding of a topic is right, not out of any real analytical ability.

It's good to do nice things when you find you have some access to the public eye, if not actual power.  Much honor to Page here if she's genuine, or even if she's lying to further the gay rights cause.  Not so much if it's for attention, whether or not she's gay.

The problem with others, is that they're not behind such clear cut causes.  Look at Jenny McCarthy and the absolute perfect storm of derp from countless other celebs on other issues, wars to healthcare to child rearing.

Entirely too many people overstep their abilities and intelligence, and too many do it as a false front, because it makes them feel good, even if they are full of horseshiat like McCarthy.  She think's she's brave and strong, standing in the face of adversity, even honorable and commendable.

As I said, too many people do that, lack that self awareness, more or less fool themselves into being morans.  From blind fark posters to unaware celebrities.

What's the best sign of of someone not being anti-gay?  IMO, when someone comes out as being gay,the reply is "So? Good on you for being brave enough to come out with it, but does it change a thing?  Now come help me lift this, the project is due friday and I don't want to work late. Wife and I are throwing a party, you're still coming, right?"

Since I posted a theory where Page could be lying and it would still be noble...

The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of celebrities lying about being gay to support the cause.  Sit down and film an interview or monologue.  Do a spiel where it's a speech about why it's wrong to hate gays, work in what their preferences are(straight or bi or otherwise) and explain about the fake, the motivations.  Lastly, record the fake admission.  Only, they release the admission excerpt first, then the rest of the video(same clothes, same setting since it was all recorded at once) a week later so bigot's don't get to go "well, he's just scared for his career so he's claiming to be straight again".

Now, that's a rough draft mind you, but I think some actors with gravitas could really pull it off as a good paternal shaming.

Clooney if he's not gay.  He's so stereotypically masculine that his public "out" would be big news, like Rock Hudson breaking so many hearts when it was found he was gay.

He's a big enough name where the temporary fiasco wouldn't hurt his career at all.

It could desensitize people to it, if a lot of well known people supposedly coming out every few days, take away a lot of the shock factor and involuntary reaction.  Sure, you can avoid one movie star, but if you really watch a lot of movies, would 40 stars coming out of the closet really make you ponder the wisdom of you being too bias now that you have no movies to watch?

So what if people just learn to assume it's fake and go on viewing that celeb as they would anyhow.  Isn't that the kind of equality we're after here?

There's enough beating around the bush and a lot of indy movements that don't see much media coverage.  It's time to step up the game.

I think there's some potential there at any rate.

Old Man Winter: Good timing, she faded off the radar for a few years.

Rrrrriiiiight. Plus those grapes were probably sour anyway. And lesbian, they were lesbian grapes, but only because they wanted the attention.

then what, pray tell, what the reason for this shocking revelation?  no one cared who she slept with.  no one was seriously sitting around wishing EP would come out.

Says you.

I can finally get some sleep.

DamnYankees: Why did everyone think Ellen Page was already gay? Even I thought this, but I can't give you a single reason why I thought that. Just a vibe?

I think it was probably because she is just So Gay. I mean... She's basically the quintessential short, smart, talented lesbian. Think about it; have you ever seen her outside of a movie or high-end interview NOT wearing flannel? And she juggles; who takes the time to learn to juggle these days? Not straight people, I'll tell ya that. I hate stereotypes but sometimes they getcha; you just can't help it :T

frepnog: ciberido: Based on other threads it's pretty clear that frepnog hates homosexuals and women.

Oh, good lord -- you're one of those people? Tipper Gore blathering about and getting labels slapped on records 30 years ago is what to this day keeps you from voting Democrat? I haven't run across that posture here in quite some time. Way to fight the good fight.

Your ilk can always be counted on to keep going and going until there's no-one left who can miss what a thoroughly tedious nitwit you are. It's the one saving grace of wading through the volumes of horseshiat you flood a thread with.

Either that or, as with some gays, she reserves a "pass" for impossibly attractive, decent, and funny dudes of the opposite sex. So Gay, but with a few minor exceptions. *shrug* sexuality is fluid and humans like getting down what is there to say?

How can you possibly miss the threads where I am nothing but an aggrandizing asshole?

I didn't say I totally agree with you all of the time, but most of the time I do.  Even now, I tend to understand what you are saying but some of it I don't particularly agree with.  I tend not to idolize celebrities for any reason.  I like being entertained by them when they apply their trade, but where as their personal lives are concerned... I pay little attention to them.

I know to some folks they can become a spokesman for a cause or what have you, but for me at least, I'm more apt to pick someone other than an actor/actress as a spokesman for cause.  There are a few who, for lack of a better term, are the real deal in some cases, but all in all.... actors/actresses in particular are pretty far down on my list of people I should take seriously.

And that will have to conclude my banter for now.  Enjoyed it... really I did.

Sorry, but censorship is a very hot button with me. Its the same shiat they are trying to pull on gaming. And yes, the democrats are very much pro censorship and i can not forgive it. Sorry you feel the need to let the government make your choices for you.

That's why I like you.(have you fav'd too, though with a thoroughly inadequate note).

You can agree disagree on one topic and fully agree on another, or split the difference within points on a single topic and decide on the concept at large.

Too many can't see the forest because for the trees, so to speak.  Being as I'm not an english major or professional story teller, I have a tendency to wing it, to describe concepts in multiple ways.  I lose a lot of tl:dr kids to that.

What I like, even if people disagree, is people that wade through it and understand it.  As opposed to the people that I mention above, those that are apt to fly off the handle at a specific turn of phrase(or bend that turn into something warped).

Cheers.

frepnog: Sorry, but censorship is a very hot button with me. Its the same shiat they are trying to pull on gaming. And yes, the democrats are very much pro censorship and i can not forgive it.

That's the problem with being a two part government.  If I'm pro-gun, I'm a dirty republican.  If I'm pro-sexual freedom, I'm a dirty librul.  Pro-military, pro-choice, (obviously)anti-government in a sense.
/all of which happen to be true

The bad part about all of that mess, I'm neither.  Both parties have the illusion of strength of numbers and resort to that fallacy of democracy without actually discussing the issues at hand.  It lends them sturdiness in the faith that they are "right".

There is simply little room for objective views on specific topics.  too much emotion on this one, too much religion on another, too much total derp there, too much money to allow facts into it, too much corruption and too many favors owed to do what's most beneficial to the people, too much emphasis on ratings(and hence money) to be objective or fair. Too much ignorance and false logic to understand any given topic, but boy to people have an immovable stance and impenetrable defenses.

It's going to burn eventually. Either that or we're going to lapse into total and perpetual tyranny.(something that motivated american pioneers to favor democracy, many to favor equality, favor guns, etc)

Thankfully I'm just old enough to where I'm fairly certain I won't see it get really really bad.  It's today's youth and future generations that are going to pay.

No way George Clooney is gay: if anything he's bi. I know a gal he plowed for a few weeks while working here in St. Louis on "Up in the Air". But don't be surprised if he goes to rehab for drinking: the dude is an epic block-out 7 day a week drunk. (Insert "That's the only thing to do in St. Louis." joke here.)

2014-02-15 06:46:34 PM

bim1154: ciberido: bim1154: Have to wonder how many of these women coming out are actually gay and not just doing it because it seems to be a fad.  It's a sad thing if they are using this for attention.

No, I really don't, but I do have to wonder what the hell is wrong with you that you think like this.

Like what?  Do you know how many celebrities jump on the "I'm a druggy/alcoholic/*choose subject" for attention when some actually don't have a problem at all and it's done for media attention?  I don't know anything about this person, could care less if she is gay, straight or what the fark.  If she is gay and coming out, I salute her, but if she is some immature twit who is doing this for media attention and she is not gay, then she's an insult to anyone who has actually struggled with coming out.  I question any celebrity who opens their mouth over some controversial issue... most tend to be media whores in some way or another.  Prove me wrong.

And that is exactly the problem: you cynically assume that people you don't know are selfish, calculating attention whores who do what they do not because they want to be open and honest about who they are, but because it might help them make a few more bucks and/or keep the spotlight on them another week.  And, of course, there are some people who are like that; nobody will deny it.  But that you assume most people you don't know are like this, and you jump to that conclusion when there are plenty of reasons to believe Ellen Page isn't that way, says a lot about how your mind works and what kind of person you are.

And your "Prove me wrong" ending really illustrates the problem in a nutshell: your "guilty until proven innocent" approach to life.

To put it simply: you like in an ugly, petty, sad world of your own imagining, and that suggests that you're a sad and petty person yourself.  Worse, in some small way you make the world around you --- the world the rest of us live in --- a very little bit sadder and uglier.

As far as Clooney goes, I don't have any real basis for this assumption, but I always just sort of assumed that the whole channeling Cary Grant thing that Clooney does include the playing for both teams bit.
