Pretty sure I just saw Kim Jung-Un win the men's downhill, figure skating, and polar bear wrestling gold medals.

When Olympic golf comes back in Rio, the North Korean delegation will shoot 38 under par, with 11 holes-in-one

Why does so much of the coverage of this olymics feel like Cold War propaganda?

Because it is?

Because Russia?

Come now.  Would Kim Jong-UN really win a polar bear wrestling competition against Vladimir Putin, held in Russia?

I think we know who would win that propaganda battle.

Ahhh. The winter games. It's like the "diet" version of the Olympics...

Is it just me, or did the article never really get to the point? They have a delegation of people running around Sochi, but no athletes? OK. Are they reporting "results", or are these leaders just appearing for meet and greets? If it's the second, then what's the big deal, and why do we have a greenlit link that really is just telling us that someone is playing politician at the Olympics?

The real question is how bad will the birth rate spike due to the spontaneous pregnancies caused by any topless photos from the event.

Yeah, the whole point in Sochi getting the Olympics was to showcase Russia to the world when it came to economics and politics.

The people who say the Olympics are non-political are full of themselves. I mean they shouldn't be, but they are.

Then it was probably a bad idea to house the Western press in the unfinished rooms with the dangerous water and dual toilets. Not the best way to go about impressing someone.

They've swept all the events. Though only the gold winners will be spared. The silver and bronze winners will be sent for further "training".

That would be one way to look at it. But it seems like Russia is going with the "how dare you deviate from the script we gave you" line of thinking.

Sin_City_Superhero: Ahhh. The winter games. It's like the "diet" version of the Olympics...

I would venture that there is a higher density of "badass" inherent in the winter events as opposed to summer ones. I totally respect the effort/training/endurance of say, distance runners and high jumpers, but sorry, biathlon is just way cooler and more hardcore.

Man vs Himself, Summer: Marathon/distance running
Winter: Xcountry Ski
Winner: Winter

Summer team sport: Basketball, Handball, Volleyball, Soccer, Water Polo, Badminton, and I'm probably missing quite a few more
Winter: Hockey
Winner: Winter

Crazy flippyjumpy things, Summer: Gymnastics floor exercise, pommel horse, rings, vault, diving
Winter: all of the various ice skating that isn't speed or hockey
Winner: Tie

Size and scope of spectacle, Summer: f'n huge
Winter: Can be contained within a single ski resort town
Winner: Summer

Stupidest event, Summer: Dressage
Winter: People would prolly say curling? which is actually pretty cool imo
Winner: Winter, for being less stupid

"Vehicular" events, Summer: Various bike races, rowing events
Winter: Luge/Skeleton, Bobsled
Winner: Winter

Sexy athlete factor, Summer: Beach volleyball
Winter: Uh, skin tight lycra in various events? Some of the figure skaters look ok...
Winner: Summer

Swordfighting/combat events, Summer: Fencing, TKD (or is it Judo?), Wrestling, boxing
Winter: No combat events, unless you count hockey but I don't wanna double up
Winner: Summer

Maximum speed achieved, Summer: 60-70kph on bikes
Winter: 100+ kph in sleds
Winner: winter

It's close, but winter gets the nod.

/this is totally a comprehensive list and nothing more needs to be said on the sibject

For your combat event, maybe for winter Biathlon is based on a combat scenario of skiing to a target and shooting accurately even if your not in direct combat with your opponent (although that would liven things up quite a bit).

Came here to say THIS.... Easily more badass than anything the summer games has to offer in that category.

We here at home had a painful wince when NBC thought it'd be a good idea to drag the Russian coach from the "Miracle On Ice" 34 years ago, to first rub into his face the historic (well, to us, anyway) loss before actually asking him anything about this Olympics.
