They really need to work on their excuses.  Don't blame the uniform that's pretty similar overall to other teams.  Say something like "My Johnson's too big and it gets in the way".

In what I've watched, all I keep hearing is announcers talking about how bad the ice is.  In all sports, including that skeleton/luge thing, skating, everything.

I recommend spray latex.

Is it possible that the IOC's drug policy has finally caught up with Western PEDs?

No capes!

If they only did computer modeling as far as factoring how the suits would effect drag. Then yea, they have some slight ground to stand on. I figured they would have had actual athletes wear the things on test tracks. You know, like how it should be done. Real world variables and all that jazz.

If they did do that, then the athletes are having issues they need to address. Otherwise, they need new super suits.

2014-02-14 12:47:38 PM
Having the mesh opening on the back probably does increase aerodynamic drag compared to having the slippery fabric over that area. I don't know whether that amount of drag is the difference between 1st and 8th place though.

That's impossible. Russia would never cut corners on quality.

Typical American externalization of blame. The opponent could not possibly be better, it must be the suit.

New speed suit?

If their penises got larger since the qualifying round I think they may want to sell the formula to whatever PEDs they're using.

It could be that they're more focused about farking and having a good time in the olympic village than winning.

Anybody else notice the lack of supreme disappointment in athlete's demeanor when they lose? A lot of the snowboarders just were shrugging their shoulders and smiling and saying, "Oh well. I'm still having a great time here in Sochi!"

All of the other world cup competitions that take place when the Olympics aren't going on are diluting the overall importance of the Olympics, in my opinion. I don't know if that's good or bad.

2014-02-14 12:56:24 PM
Why the fark aren't people using the same shiat across the board in the olympics?  Because what's the counter-argument?  Oh, all those gold medals you've won united states were due to you having better suits, clearly.

The most annoying thing about the luge I was watching was how they went on about how the 1st place persons sled was completely unique, and made unique sounds and he was really interested in seeing how it was made to make it better than everyone elses.

No, every damn sled should be identical.  The fact that we're talking about a "best sled" takes away everything from the competitors.

2014-02-14 01:00:10 PM
They should just compete naked like the ancient greek speedskaters did.

2014-02-14 01:02:15 PM
They should send in MythBusters.I expect to see Buster dressed in the speed skating suit hurtling down a track with a rocket up his ass.

Blame Under Armour, consider suit? Somehow I don't think a Brooks Bros 3-piece is very aerodynamic.

I'd like to see an engineering Olympics.

Fark em. As an American I'm tired of our athletes just assuming they're going to kick everyone's asses.

I agree that something is weird about those suits. It almost looks like they have a wetsuit on. The other competitors have something that looks like a single piece of spandex, but the USA suits have lots of seams, look thicker, and don't seem to fit very well.

In all seriousness, the quality of UA's products has gone in the shiatter, the last few years.

Flip side;

As a Canadian, we don' assume anything.

We know we're going to kick everyone's ass at the Olympics.

...put's on fireproof suit

The much-hyped suit the apparel company developed with the help of defense contractor Lockheed Martin - as the fastest speedskating suit in production.

From what I know of Under Armour and defense contractors in general, I'm not really surprised that the end result was a money sink that doesn't really do anything worthwhile.

It's farking sledding. How that became an olypic sport is beyond me. Next summer Olympics we should have nascar. Frankly, I see no reason why technology shouldn't play a role where the users are all so close in skill the results would be impacted by an errant fart at the wrong time.

I was noticing a gap around the jaw/neck area, and wondered if it would catch air when they were skating.

Weird that in 2014 they would introduce these suits during the Olympics with absolutely no prior testing.  It's like they just bought them off the rack at Dick's.

FTFA: many skaters have posted personal-best sea-level heat times, split times or race times this week

Now granted that's from an Under Armor rep but if it's true, something doesn't quite add up.

Before all the hype, I thought they had a single suit for everyone. It would seem to make sense.

It would also make sense to have a backup suit when something new is being tried.

It's more a generational thing than an American thing.  Typical America blamers, never bother to look for the real root of the problem...

Whatever the truth is, Under Armour can still benefit from this if they react correctly. The upside for them is that it reinforces the idea that technical clothing makes a big difference.

Further study is needed. We would have to perform a thorough tactile examination to search for any dimples, mounds or other irregularities.
