I missed pretty much everything this morning.

2014-02-13 07:45:11 PM
For those of you watching on the East Coast, first of all; stay warm. Secondly, let me know when they start showing the figure skating because I know what happened and I just want to see how it went down.

/that might be a mini spoiler, but I'm not naming names

Bunny Deville: I missed pretty much everything this morning.

Since I got snowed in today, I saw some of the daytime events.  No spoilers, but there's some good drama today.

We were snowed in today as well, but I guess *some people* thought that it was more important to do things like work on a master's thesis than to let me have the computer to watch streaming events. The nerve.

Staying off the computer and not watching any TV would've been the only way to remain unspoiled today. Breaking news all over the place.

I was stuck in meetings all day, which means that I didn't get much of a chance to see any Internet spoilers.

So to paraphrase an NBC summer ad campaign from about 20 years ago: "If you haven't seen it, it's new to you!"

Well that's mainly because NBC only shows 10% of any given sport.

1.  I saw the actual news 8 hours ago or whenever it happened.
2.  You would think the local NBC affiliate would give spoiler alerts.
3.  I was too lazy to change the channel.

True, but they show the actual sports NBC affiliates live or during the day.  They don't broadcast snowboarding or freestyle skiing events anywhere except in primetime.  And those events are where almost all of our medals have come from so far.

It's a shame we need bullshiat judged competitions to get medals since we suck at the actual sports now.

Football Friends™ : #2 just called to tell me that the Jagwaggers have like 150 million to spend on salaries this year. Woot Woot, we can buy some talent.

I missed what they were yammering on about with the uniforms; what was the big deal?

The US uniforms had some ovular "vents" on the backs that have since been filled in with fabric. Apparently this is some sort of attempt to improve the aerodynamics. That's what I gather, anyway.

/go Jagwaggers!

USA changed a patch on their suits. The analogy the commentator used was that it was like a skier changing the wax on their skis.

Sorry to hear about that.  My mom had a miscarriage between my sister and me.  She always made it seem like it was no big deal, just "god's way of preventing a mistake," but when I asked her about it a couple years ago, she got a little weepy.

Yeah... I just got a little weepy, too.

My daughter, the fearless one, reckons this sport looks like a lot of fun. God help me.

The commentator knows nothing whatever about ski racing, by the way -- that was a total bullshiat analogy.  A couple of big Scandinavian companies put huge amounts of ChemE research into ski wax; it really can make a very significant difference in  both Alpine and Nordic racing, and a decent wax job can make a very noticeable difference even for recreational skiers at low speed.  If there's any physical effect at all from just covering a piece of mesh on someone's back, it can't possibly be much. (and a very thin turbulent layer might actually be better than trying to make it completely laminar, anyway)

/I just finished waxing my skis, and I'll scrape them in about an hour -- tomorrow I'm going to the hill Nick Goepper started at.

What is the skeleton vs luger relationship? Rivals? Pals? Does skeleton consider themselves more hardcore? So lugers consider themselves more authentic?
