Today she is no longer 4.5 pounds (we will be getting that lecture at the vet next month).  She is no longer feral (she sleeps with me every night).  Many times I wake up with her in my arms, with her reaching up and touching my face.

Zoomaster: Reddit had this days ago.  Reddit is such a better site, I come back to Fark about once every week or two, to see if there is anything interesting, and if there is, Reddit already did it days ago.  What is there like 7 or 8 "sub-Farks"  with Reddit there are so many you can never get through them all.  On Fark you can get through the whole website in 30 minutes..

But this is Fark, not Reddit. Why would anyone ban you here? We do not cry like little girls with skinned knees and then bring down the ban hammer on people who think they are slighting us by not liking the same things we like. That would just be silly.

Just look at cats and be happy, then go on your merry way, spreading sunshine and joy. It's kind of the point. That's why this is "Caturday on Fark" and not a meeting of the National Coalition of Independent Scholars.

Here, have a kitten!

Hai everbuddy, just wanted to check in and apologize (again) - I really anticipated and looked forward to being around a lot more this Caturday, but real life snuck up behind me and basically kicked me in the head when I least expected it and my normal DEFCON 3 status (SNAFU) quickly degraded to DEFCON 2 (FUBAR).

And it ain't getting any better at the moment :o(

Also, the weather sucks, we got almost 2 feet of snow a few days ago, followed by another few inches yesterday, and more expected tomorrow.

But more importantly, I just want to take a moment to ask everyone to stop whatever you are doing and go and hug your cats/dogs/what have you (hey, all animals are welcome on Caturday) - and thank them for what they do for us. I would have given up by now if it was not for my beloved white boy, who keeps me fighting. Even if it is only so I can provide him with spicy wings

I've been coming here to browse Caturday for a year or two now...Been asking for a kitty for a long time. We finally adopted Poster Nutbag here on Jan 31; he's quite happy and the depression of the house has been lifted. I usually don't say much but wanted to share our addition to our family. And I am late because I work Saturdays :(

Aaaaaannnndddd... once again I'm reminded why I need to read the whole thread before I respond to something... TheIceQueen (I think...) covered the disability stuffs beautifully.  **Sigh**  I'll just go back to lurking, since I'm not really needed here.

Looks like the guy is taking the day off to spend with me (now that he decided to wake up... lol!)  So I'm just going to enjoy a quiet day off with him and the cats.  Prolly stick a roast in the crock pot for dinner noms.  At least it's sunny today!

Thanks! How is Suzy doing? Have you made a decision regarding medications for her?

We had a talk with the vet and decided that first we will get the extra weight off of Suzy. Trying to get her weight down while she's very hungry is just mean. Then we will try the phenobarbital and keep an eye on her liver function. Hopefully the side effects will be minimal. She is a healthy doggie otherwise and as long as her tail is still wagging, all is good.

[imagizer.imageshack.us image 640x480]

Hoover and Dyson (and Me), we all have to lose weight.  My vet recommended for the dogs, add green beans to the kibble, take some kibble away, add some green beans.  And get some spray butter to spray on top.  The boys devour it!  I did the canned green beans for Wraggs too.  Vet said one pound lost will be great for the boys.  She told me about one of her patients came in the day before and had lost 20 pounds (dog), the dog was 88 pounds and was now in the 60's.  She said that was too much but that they had followed the green bean diet.  I would think Suzy would do gook with 1/2 a can of green beans added daily.   Warm the leftovers before adding to kibble and of course drain them.

I just started them on long walks.  A mile.  That is a LONG way for short little dogs.  I need the long walk too.

I can do weight watchers (sigh, I am back up so now I MUST be good.    Count count count....veggies are our friends!)  Treadmill.  Elliptical.  Girlie weights.  My clothes do not fit me, I hate shopping with a vengeance.  So I MUST work out so I can actually fit in my clothes and might feel ok shopping if all the clothes didn't look like crap.

Good luck Suzy, you can do it!!!

lilyspad: GGracie: I have to admit that it was weird having my co-workers stare at my breasts.

Um, and you said or did nothing about it? Were you like totally flashing cleavage, or are you just "full figured"? I would have put a stop to that right away!

It's more just large breasted.  38-G, which is why I am GGracie.  I wasn't flashing the twins, but with a 38 inch chest with G's attached... they do get noticed.  To be honest, I don't really care if people stare.  I am VERY used to it.  I have a flat stomach... that spends a lot of time in the shade.  It doesn't make me uncomfortable... I just thought it odd that the women stared so obviously.

The boobie fairy visited me when I turned 14.  I went from nothing to DD's in a very short period of time.  My background is in Human Resources, so I am well versed in sexual discrimination/harassment.  As with many things in the work place, it's not a problem until it's a problem.  I don't feel it necessary to file a complaint over something that happens to me when I go to the grocery store or the gas station.  The only challenge I face from it is that I have to work a bit harder than others to gain true respect as people do have some bad notions about large breasts.  I've heard women whispering to each other "Are those real???".  Yes, who would do this to themselves on purpose???

There have been a few occasions when I did have to respond to co-workers who were committing serious sexual discrimination/harassment.  One locked me in my office and kept me there for 20 minutes while he explained to me that I "obviously wanted it".  I did have him fired.  Another co-worker came up and leaned over my desk to look down my shirt and said "You're serving up quite a load today", then had all of the male employees come up to my desk to do the same thing.  It was my first job, and although I was the personnel manager I didn't complain, I just wore baggier tops.  That was purely unprofessional behavior on everyone's part, including mine.

Now much wiser, I can handle even the biggest jackasses.  I can't force people to not look.  I'm not that big, but my breasts are.  I would just come off as a hellish biatch if I complained every time someone lost eye contact with me.  But take it beyond that... and I will act.  Sometimes it is as simple as saying something like "Rude much?  Try to remember your manners."  and then shake my head.  It reminds them without me being a total biatch.  Beyond that and the gloves are off.  Try to touch them or pretend to motorboat them and you will be looking for new employment.  A lot of it also has to do with my behavior.  If I wear tight shirts and obviously show off the twins down to an inch above my nipples while talking about BJs, then yes, I had it coming.  I shouldn't be acting like that at work, just as much as someone shouldn't assume that a nearly six foot tall redhead with large breasts is obviously a slut.

People come from different backgrounds and sometimes they are immature or think they can get away with it.  I deal with each person and each event as I feel that I have resolved it to where I feel comfortable.  It's a much more effective way to earn respect than to run to my manager each time I catch someone's eyes falling short of my chin.  I know who I am, what I look like and where I go to sleep.  If I were so insecure about my body that I freaked whenever someone checked out the twins, I would never leave the house.

This is where I'm at.  I just found out that the man-friend thinks Valentine's is a stupid holiday made up by the card and flower corporations.  So, shiat.  Not that I was hoping for a diamond tennis bracelet, but a card would have been cool.
So I shall watch Star Wars... the only version of episode 4 that should ever be acknowledged...  Something more important that love or flowers or even sex on Valentine's Day...

HAN SHOT FIRST!!!!

... wait, did I just say more important than sex??? WTF?  Such a conundrum...

Finally some good new in the Catmandu household. I got approved for Social Security Disability so I will actually have something resembling an income. Money will still be tight but I won't have to rely on loans from family to get through the month. I still plan to work, but now I can find something part time that won't be as physically or mentally stressful. I am also hoping to get more referrals to do pet sitting. I can't walk dogs but I can definitely care for cats and small animals. One of these days I will remember to take my camera and get pictures of Ratchett and Riley to show you all now that they come out of hiding. Riley will even let me pet her a little (Ratchett still hisses if I get close). I go over there every other day while their hooman is recovering in a halfway house.

An oldie but goodie to make up for the wall of text:

Hector is definitely a water kitty. I was soaking my feet in the tub and he had to come see what I was doing. He also decided he wanted to play with the water so he stuck his front paws in. He got himself in a position where he couldn't get back up so he slowly slid down the back of the tub until all four feet were immersed in 3" of water. He actually stood there and even took a couple of steps before deciding he needed to get out. I have never had a cat who would actually willingly stand in water.

Good thing I wasn't taking a bath or we would have had this:

Had a great day off today. My son and daughter in law came out with her brother and his family. They have a little boy that loves animals. He was kind of scared of Fiona at first but then he was all giggles when he found that throwing treat at her would make her jump to catch them. He got to ride a horse:
img.fark.net
We took him out to see if he wanted to sit on Castle or Mountain but that was a bit too much for him. Castles head is as big as this whole little boy! He cried when we took him away from the toy horse at first but all the animals on the farm soon had him distracted.
We showed him this:

6 years ago this morning, 2/16/2008, I was out with my dog, taking our morning 2 mile walk when half way thru we came up on a little kitten on the side of the road. I stopped to say hello, she hissed, I said 'ok' and walked about 10 feet and told the dog, 'lets go home now, that kitty needs us'.  I made the dog walk and run home.  I grabbed one of my crates, some gloves and threw it all in my jeep and drove back up there, saying 'if she is there, she is meant to be with me, please be there, please be there'.....and there she was....

crankyandi.smugmug.com

She weighed 4.5 pounds, had been a recent mommy (no babies with her) and feral.  She hissed and spit and was really angry at me.  She called me dirty names, I was an SOB, dirty bastardo and a hoe.  I named her after my Mom (my Mom called me those names all in one weekend...btw, I am none of them, Mom had alzheimers).

Weell, the street punks are slamming the tables and singing hip hop lyrics out loud, and the rednecks are getting in a fighting mood, and I am out of clean underwear, so I think it is time to retire for the weekend.  Still got moist of a bottle of v0dak left, library closed this Moansday for Dead Presidents day, and the snow is all shoveled (multiple times) so I will spend the rest of Caturday holed up at my place eating fried chicken and v0dak, watching South Park reruns, and wondering when I am going to get around to dusting cobwebs and picking up the remains of 7 (SEVEN!) different computer and router guts areound the place.  And maybe laundry.  And call for some Job interviews (I hear he is very patient).  And call my folks and listen to my Mom's gaul bladder problems (prolly prescribe a cesare salad).

Everyone here:  have a happy and wunderfall Caturday afternoon.  May your and your fur kid's respective ailments, aches and pains grow less and begone.  May the the lurkers become farkers, and may the farkers welcome them with cookies and decent microbrews.  May RWDA have a short year to a long Disney Vacation.  May the snow on Sherpa's yak melt quickly so he can get reliable internet again.  May Lilyspad's pics fill the screens, and may Suzie enjoy the extra beans.  May Mousiebelle delurk, and may yours truly finally find some dam work!

SO! As I was just being kinda sorta bummed cuz we are out of flour tortillas (THAT'S LIKE A NATIONAL EMERGENCY!!!) so I could not make flautas for breakfast unless I made tortillas first - which I am not going to do as I want to save my precious, small energy to do mah nails and look at Caturday - my Mom says "We haven't been to Disneyland in over a year. I think I'm going this year. Maybe around Halloween." and I started getting even moar upset. First, no tortillas. Plus I am sickly, though obviously feeling better today than I have in a while. NOW mom's talking the Happiest Place on Earth and Mandatory Attendance Annual Pilgrimage for All Angelenos (even those of us who moved to NorCal - it's the law. Look it up!) and I am very poor. I must have made a terribly sad face, because she said if I could get my own four day park hopper pass ($285) and carry my own weight as far as fuds go (so buy every other meal and provide my own snacks) she could figure out a way for me to not have to pay my share of house expenses for the month of October, since I'm the only one besides her that both lives here AND contributes financially toward house and vehicles.

If I work very hard when I am awake (Amazon MTurk is always good for a couple hundred a month if you push yourself not to walk away out of boredom, irritation and the recognition you are making less than an undocumented migrant farm worker) and limit my spending on books and nail polish and CDs and whatnot to LESS than a third of that at most, factor in my not having to pay the $550 in October - Holy Mother of The Almighty Mickey Mouse, I'm going to Disneyland!!!

My day just got better by a magnitude of AWESOME.

Holee fark...is there some sort of thing they have to sign that states they may NOT speak in a normal tone of voice but must either yell or sob hysterically? I won't even go into the "How the hell did these people ever come to fark each other in the first place?" factor...
not to mention "Ever hear of 'safe sex' or 'birth control'?"

Raven did watch it with me...at least, she sat on my lap and purred when she wasn't schooling Casper...

cretinbob: A look back at CaturdayMany thanks to Dark Johnson for the template

Oh, wow. I lost track of time and did not realize how many years I was on Fark before I even signed up for an account (and how much even longer it was before I quit lurking!). I remember the Early Years of Caturday! I actually remember pre-Caturday Fark. Which is scary, in its own way.

Do we get an official old-timers badge for lurking? lol! I bet there's a ton of folks who have been around that long as well and who never did de-lurk.

The Ice Queen: SSDI is actually based on what you've paid into the system. Every couple of years you should get a little thing from SSA stating that if you were to retire now, you would get xx/month. SSDI also expires, the shelf life is about 5 years or so after you stop working/paying into the system. There is also a waiting period of 5 months before benefits kick in from date of onset. Say if you are found disabled as of today, your benefit wouldn't kick in until July or August! That's why we try and push the onset back as far as we can go to try and eliminate that waiting period (like instead of being found disabled as of today, we are able to find you disabled as of last February, you'll get your benefits will kick in as that 5 month period is up - big PIA). Govt and public sector employees don't pay into Social Security. We pay into something else. Therefore, if we're found disabled, we get our benefits from whomever handles our pension and actually can only apply for Medicare. You can get around it by working a non-public sector job (like I do because Sallie Mae owns my ass and then some) but again, since I'm not contributing as much towards the system now, it would affect my benefits if I ever have to file.

SSI is income/resource based and its basically a set amt, want to say like $800/month give or take. Anything else that comes in, like pensions, structured settlements, Worker's Comp benefits, etc, will drop that amt by so much. Its some freaky calculation that the field offices do and we have no idea how they figure it out on the medical end.

The system is also really weighted towards the over 50 crowd. If you're under 50 you can almost forget it. Not that it can't happen, I've helped get claims approved for those under 50 but we're talking really sick people here. Like on dialysis, terminally ill, getting organ transplants, been in/out of psych hospitals with stays of months. 50 is the magic age and every 5 years, you get more factors in your favor. If you're over 60, ...

Cooks do not make a lot of money, even when we become chefs. I've had a few jobs where I've been in the restaurant as an independent contractor/consulting chef, but cooking full time for them. I've been self employed for a couple years now. Catmandu told me a few things about how long it takes even if you're on top of things, and I'm under 50 still, so since my private insurance only covers my temporary disability until the end of December, I should apply now.

I do have multiple health issues and by all rights should be crippled or dead, but I'm pretty darn tough for a little cream puff. I suppose in the interest of self preservation, I need to totally wuss out for a while. At least I'll have a shot at MediCare so I CAN go back to work, IF I can be fixed. If not - I seem to have a natural talent for nail art. I can go to some schoolin' for that. Or I can look into something with a more academic flavor. I wonder what folklorists actually do besides be incredibly cool in between random History Channel appearances? Hmmmm........

I passed my yearly physical today with flying colors. EKG showed the ticker is solid, cholesterol, BP, pulse...etc. are all spot on. Most of all the lungs sound great. Only issue is GERD, which I'll be starting Prilosec tomorrow. Not too shabby considering I've spent most of that past year on my ass in the man cave.

I'll be spending the day tomorrow tuning up my gym equipment now that I've been cleared. I've got about 60 pounds to lose. I've done it before...I'll do it again.

syzygy whizz: Real Women Drink Akvavit: syzygy whizz: Heads-up for working while on disability...you're allowed to make up to $1,070 a month by working.

Holy Fark! Are you SERIOUS? What's the catch?

[4.bp.blogspot.com image 302x320]

No catch...this is from moi own experience. Been on disability for XX number of years, finally got tired of my life consisting of paying bills at the start of the month and then lying low for the rest. Was fortunate enough to get the job I have now...things are MUCH better!

They do a 36 month 'trial period' and then average what you make. If you make less than the stated amount, you are not considered to be able to do substantial (think that's the term) labor.

I ain't riding free, mind you...I do pay taxes, and I have a Medicaid spend-down every month (if you're working you may get some help with that as well. Do check it out...it can make a HUGE difference).

Caveat: RWDA, catmandu, YMMV. I'm only familiar with how it works in Montana.

akimbotoo...

Ain't Costco grand? Friend of mine and I went there today...he needed stuff, I had the card and he helped me unload afterwards. Dropped a bit over $200...which was about what I figured- I was out of just about EVERYTHING. My aunt says she loves/hates Costco...you go in for toilet paper and come out with a set of snow tires and a swing set (neither of which I purchased...today).

tigerose, RWDA...you might find the next bit worth going ( "Hmmmm...interesting!" )
One of the things I bought was a huge bag of spinach for dehydrating...another thing I'm almost out of. Latest thing I've tried it with is a handful of dried spinach in with the steamed broccoli...a bit of butter, tarragon, salt and fresh-ground black pepper.
It WORKS!

Weather forecast is for the 40's, thank Bast and FSM...I can run the dehydrator and Riktor can go outside to avoid it. For some reason, the white noise really bothers him...he gets absolutely frantic with the need to GET AWAY from it.

If it gets to the point I must apply for the SSDI, that will be good to know. Right now I'm getting by (paying rent only, which is kinda sorta "getting by" when you live with your fambly, I guess) on my very minimal private temporary disability insurance and making my cat fud and nail polish moneez on Amazon Mturk when I can stay awake for more than an hour or two. It really sucks. I could use the insurance too, though. That's something I hadn't thought of before.

I suppose I should talk to the doc about that on Wednesday too, huh? He's the one who thinks I'm disabled, just unsure for how long...

ouch, my tiny bit of remaining pride is hurting... (totally no offense meant - I'm just the stubborn I TOTALLY GOT THIS YOU GUISE! type, even if I've obviously broken bones and am bleeding, so it just kills me inside to admit I might not be OK. I mean BAD kills me inside.)

Thanks for the info. Since SSDI is federal, it should be the same in California as far as how much we can make/blah blah blah. Our cost of living here is really high, but still, that's quite a bit more than what I know they pay folks who are JUST on disability.

Gremie is really an incredibly smart cat, at least for today.
He was in the kitchen working on a hairball. I'm sure everyone is familiar with that unmistakable sound.
As I walked into the kitchen in order to figure out where I had to clean up, he suddenly went running past me at full speed(pushing me out of the way) heading straight to the bathroom. Once he got to the bathroom he stuck his head over the litterbox and deposited his hairball.
I couldn't help but laugh because the way he ran to the bathroom reminded me of a little kid that waited to long. "Move it , out of the way, I gotta use the potty"

catmandu: Finally some good new in the Catmandu household.

You can DO that? I thought it was "I can do some work" or "I can't do any work" or I would have applied. They have been trying to get me to do so for the past year, but I know I can't survive in California on less than $800/month. That's just insane to even try.

Oh, and hai, everybuddy! I iz still alive, just still sickly so kinda scarce. I'm going to try and catch up before I need another nap. Typing and microwaving TV dinners so I do not starve is tiring, ya know. But I shall try!!!

TGIC! This is one of the first weeks in a long time that I've been excited for Friday!  I need the weekend to recover.  This has been a super busy week... and I *may* have to go find some coffee today to reward myself for living through it!  The cats have been very supportive of my need to nap most afternoons this week :)  I love my fuzzy babies sooooo much!  They have been wonderful and are helping me maintain some level of sanity :)

The guy and I don't celebrate Valentine's Day.  We try very hard to do things for each other at random when it's not expected so it has more meaning.  Not to mention the prices of things are so much higher... so we tell ourselves we're being financially intelligent by avoiding the expense of the holiday :)

Loving cat is... kinda touchy-feely... lol

Everyone meet "Friend!" I named him that since we usually have 2 black cats who frequent our porch "Fluffy Black Kitty" and "Scragglers," and one day after work here was this friend with them, chillin out and eatin foodstuffs! So "Friend" he became. Sadly, a few days ago we saw him on the porch again and he was limping, his front right paw had what looked to be a small puncture wound in the wrist/forearm area.I opened the door to put more food off and he took off running, surprisingly agile for an injured kitty! Of course it's torn at my heartstrings and I wish we could take him to the vet. He's SO HANDSOME! He really needs to be an inside kitty! But we don't have a cat trap and I don't know if being trapped would cause him to injure himself more or whatnot. Anyway, this was from this morning, he showed up again and still limping :( I put out some wet food for the poor guy. I'm glad he can still get around well, I worry if he's in too much pain. :/

Did Bob Marley compose that .jpg?

No idea.  A friend posted it on FB.  Even in So. Me. Allen's tends to sell fast during storms.  Lobstermen can't be using it ALL as bait preservative.

I gave it up (after having my fair share over time) 3 years ago. Lost 7# in a month (and I'm not a heavyweight). Pretty sure it was all the whole milk I mixed with it 'cos my alcohol intake is the same  :)

LOL!  Yes, I think you're right.  Everyone I know who still dares to drink "gorilla-milk" are very big people. Just wine and beer for me these days, and an occasional good scotch.

Oh - for those of you wondering about Bob Marley... not the reggae master.  The Maine comedian.  Funny stuff, if you can relate. :)
