It would have been a better story if the floor had actually fallen in!

Have you seen some of the remodeling shows on HGTV that are made in Great Britain? Some of those are some old shiate! Not old historical just old. Things must be expensive because some of those I would have bulldozed and started over.

I say fix the floor up and make this into a bomb shelter. Right in your house.

I wonder if "Highway To Hell" was heard coming from the shaft ?

I wonder if his property taxes go up now since he's suddenly got a lot more square footage. It'd be cool if he climbed down into it and ended up finding One Eyed Willy's pirate ship and treasure. He'd just have to watch out for all the booty traps.

D&D isn't for losers. I personally think the game looks boring as hell. But I don't knock it just because I don't like it.

Is D&D still around?

I tried playing that back in the early 80's in school but never developed an interest in it.
Besides, anyone who ever admitted to playing the game back then usually ended up getting their ass kick or found themself going head first into the toilet.
(_:(|) MMMMMMMM.......Swirlees.

when I was in the Navy there was a group of about 8 guys thatwould lock themselves in a room from Friday until Monday and play D&D the whole farking time. My buddy and I would take delight in getting wasted and either harrassing them through the door or windows and if we were lucky enough to enter the room when one of them was leaving to get more Mountain Dew or take a potty break it was all about drunken D&D disruptive madness. ahhhh, meeeemories

All of a sudden Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, and James Garner popped out and said "We are 3 Niger slave boys on the lam, can you get us a Nike endorsement deal? We will put da ball in da hoop."

Rabbito: You'd probably enjoy this movie then, if you haven't already seen it.

ImDracula:
Yes, D&D is still around.

In terms of production, the game is now owned by Wizards of the Coast (the Magic (The Gathering) people), which is owned by Hasbro, if I'm not mistaken. In Summer 2000, a massive reworking of the game, called 3rd Edition, was released, garnering mixed reviews. The Players' Handbook for 3rd edition is still in Amazon.com's top 1000 in sales. ( See http://www.wizards.com/dnd/main.asp?x=dnd/welcome,3 and http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0786915501/qid=1007744301/sr=2-1/ref=sr _2_79_1/104-8426730-6250329 ).

In terms of people playing D&D, there are some. I don't know that the game is as popular as it was in the late 70's and the 80's, but it has a following. There will probably always be people playing the various older versions of the game, even if the newer editions go out of print.

How handy, if you have a coal-powered kitchen.

In a movie, someone would have jumped up and down on it, saying, "See! It's perfectly safe!" before comically falling to his death.

I wanna cast magic missle!

I'd be having a great time with a 40ft shaft in my house. I'd dangle a video camera all the way to the bottom to see what's in it. Maybe hook up a few x10 cams to my remote control car and see how big the bottom is.

I play D&D with a bunch of my geek friends (yes, I am a geek, but sexy!) every couple of weeks. It's a boring game unless everyone stays in character, then it's fun. Otherwise, it's just six or seven hours of bullshiatting about random stuff with the occasional break to roll dice.

I'm an evil anti-paladin. I get to kill people and get points for it. Torture and random acts of butchery get me extra stats. It's fun.

40 inch man-shaft? Yeah, I got one of those. Oh, you said mineshaft. Nevermind.

I would say D&D is more popular now then it was in the 70's. It is true roleplaying.. You can not do true roleplaying on the computer, because the code limites what you do. It is alot of fun, but you have to be with the right people and a good DM. It can be insaniy boring, or alot of fun. I have done both.

RBCP? Where to? Into the Darkness?

2001-12-07 02:27:34 PM
Sounds like typical British craftsmanship.

2001-12-07 02:41:49 PM
D&D- I like the game, but hate the players. I only play the computer games.

2001-12-07 02:53:42 PM
Skwidd:
It's not D&D if it's a player vs. the computer. It may be a fantasy adventure game, but how can it be D&D without roleplaying and social interaction?

2001-12-07 03:10:51 PM
Bwingrave: Yeah, but have you looked at those people lately? JEE-ZUS. Not exactly the people I want to interact with.

I'll wait for that upcoming game that let's you design your own dungeons and let's other people download and play them (Neverwinter Nights?)

Bwingrave>/b>:

Old way:
"It is believed to be a mineshaft from the city's coal industry. But local historian Dave Stephenson said it could have been a medieval well."

D&D way:
The barkeeper always believed it to be just another ancient Tanakra dwarven mineshaft, from the city's former platinum industry. But local Thalsmen chieftan, Lord Evadi Trunion has passed rumors that it could be the fabled lost well of Talos. He is dispatching several conscripted Thalsmen clerics to investigate the recently discovered abyss. After some direct questioning, Gebbi the Barkeep admitted that he had been using it to quickly hide some of his more sensitive clients and smuggled goods for years...He says the portal descends forty feet straight down, to a roughly hewn T-intersection. He does not know where the passages lead from his entrance--but the clerics are suspicious."

I agree. Good potential for a gaming session.

-P.S. Yes, I have been a DM for more than a decade.
