(KSL Salt Lake City)   A man, and a burglary plan. Up to the roof, down through the ventilation system. Smash and grab, and exit? Oh...the doors won't open. And the glass is bulletproof. What does one do? Have a smoke and wait to be arrested   (ksl.com) divider line 28

I would never burglarize, but if I did, and farked it all up, that's pretty much what I would do.

But I've always been kind of a slacker, give up too easily.

I've got $10 that says there's another exit in the back of the store.

Thought the same thing.

The article said the same guy robbed the store a few years ago, in the same fashion and got away with $75K wotrh of goodies. They since put in the shatter proof glass.  Doh!

Go for the lock or, better yet, the hinges, you dumbass.

Stupid question for those who watch Sherlock, would the diamond in a piece of gum thing actually work on bullet-proof glass? Seems too easy.

The Box of Truth tested bullet proof glass and found a 12 guage slug will cut through like nothing. A sawed off 12 gauge is cheap, easy to find / make, and would be a better choice.

Also, I found a pick of the reporter's father:

I wouldn't include a shotgun in my burglar's tools, but I'm willing to bet that the hinges are standard, and so are vulnerable to a flat-head screwdriver.

This isn't that weird.  There was a guy back in the 90s and early 2000s that would rob box stores like this.  Climbed on the roof, cut a hole, rappelled down, and climbed back up with some electronics or jewelry.

He said it took him months "training like an Olympian" to climb the rope loaded.

/I think American Greed showed this?
//Out of their style, but that deserves some coverage

Made me think about all the WTC victims who perished because they were "trapped" behind walls of Sheetrock.

I love how the reporter holds up an iPad with the photo of the guy on it.

I guess we're supposed to be impressed by how technologically advanced the news station is.

In reality, I couldn't see the photo clearly, and it would have been better just to have had it superimposed over the shot, the way they've been doing it for decades.

I would. If I'm doing B&E then I'm going to bring stuff to blow windows out. I guess a shotgun may be a bit much, but something more than a claw hammer as he was using.

Am I the only one who read the headline in the voice of the old Batman series narrator?

Huh?

Anyway, the reporters showing their tablet thing drives me nuts.  Ohh yea, thanks for reminding me I can get a better report without all of the stupid fluff on the internet.

I remember reading a account of a gentleman who came upon some people in the WTC who were behind a Sheetrock wall who evidently didn't know you can kick through it.

Ohh I hadn't heard that one.

Anyway, that's really a different kind of thing.  Being in a panic and literally dying causes the brain to move into autopilot.

Point is that some people will look at a wall and simply assume that it is impenetrable. People can be incredibly clueless about the world they live in.
