I prefer the one hanging at the Art Institute in Chicago.  In it, It looks like Mao is wearing makeup.  My only takeaway is Mao would have been a very ugly woman.

I think that's one of the reasons the ChiComs reacted so poorly to "Kundun". Scorsese didn't portray Mao simply as a gangster, but as an effeminate gangster.
