talkertopc: Although Darwin is one of the most important scientist in history, equal to Newton and Maxwell,  I don't think this makes him a hero. His theories were better accepted in England during his lifetime than they are today in the United State.

So, you're suggesting that someone who had the courage to stand up to "big God" with "big No that shiat doesn't work that way, because I've studied it and look this is how it actually works" isn't a Hero?

Is Galileo not a Hero then either?

If being a Hero isn't standing up to something that is wrong, when you have proof that there is a better way, then Jesus isn't a Hero either. While I'm not a Christian, and I'm not sure Jesus was a real person, I still think Jesus was the Hero of the New Testament.

What makes a hero in your mind?

The only thing I found where he might have acted heroically is the following from wikipedia: "An expanse of water adjoining the Beagle Channel was named Darwin Sound by Robert FitzRoy after Darwin's prompt action, along with two or three of the men, saved them from being marooned on a nearby shore when a collapsing glacier caused a large wave that would have swept away their boats ".

Fark needs a tag for people who have distinguished themselves.

Like Hitler, Darwin totally claims the surname all for himself and for all times.

I also Godwined my post.

Happy D-day, epic beard man.

I celebrated Darwin Day by going to rehearsal for Inherit the Wind.  I'm playing the dude on trial.  I also teach science in real life, so it's not much of a stretch.

Mostly I sit at the defense desk and react to things.
