Wow, the actual article is incredibly sad and disturbing. I stopped about half way through. But the gist of it seems to be that her husband had extensive brain damage after cancer surgery and basically forgot huge chunks of short term and long term memory. He seems to have lost the ability to remember or recall his long term memories.

But she is basically just worried about their sex life and lack thereof??

I know what she's going through. My husband had emergency surgery for a malignant brain tumor, leaving him extensively brain damaged, half-blind, and without the ability to read or write, short term memory shot to hell. He died 20 months later. But goddammit the last thing I cared about was our sex life.

What a depressing thing to end the day with. Where are the cat videos?

I wonder what feminists would be saying if the roles in the story had been reversed?  The woman comes back from surgery all forgetful and the man is worried about sex and winds up mounting her for his own needs.  I think they would be screaming RAPE!

I think she went for a romantic/emotional tone but left out too many details that would appeal to the emotions i.e the pain and sorrow aspect of the story... So, I pretty much agree with someone above that this story sounded pretty rape-y.

I got a weird rapey vibe from TFA. The dude couldn't talk, barely remembers who she is, has massive abdominal surgery, and she rides him cowboy style before all his pubes grow back from the surgery?

Kinda freaky.

I'm torn between feeling bad and heartfelt for this woman, and yet also wanting to criticize her for way too much info for a Salon article. Some things are better left unsaid between a married couple going through rough times in the bedroom.

Okay, I get that she's hurt and confused and all that, but masturbating on your brain-damaged husband's body is disturbing as hell.

That's what I thought, too. It sounded like he couldn't talk when she climbed on top of him, but after it was over he was able to say that he didn't remember sex when she asked him.

So which one is it, lady? Did you fark the words back into his brain or something?

AverageAmericanGuy: Abacus9: AverageAmericanGuy: Too wordy.

She probably likes to ready Ray Bradbury.

You think Bradbury is wordy? How precious.

You don't? The man never met a synonym he didn't like, love, need.

He's certainly descriptive, but he's as poetic a prose writer can be. It almost always adds to the story.

More like an expensive romance novel... and actually based on a true story.

I liked her writing. It was descriptive enough to make me feel strange, since women rarely write like that.

Christ, if my wife wrote horrific fanfic stories about our sex life like that, I'd thank God I didn't remember it after surgery.

Maybe he's faking it to get a BJ.

um
that sucks

but she is writing about her story from 8 years out looking back
and she is being honest about what was happening in her life
which includes physical, mental and emotional
they were high school sweet hearts, had kids in college, a healthy sex life and had been married 20 years when it happened.

it is completely reasonable that along with all of the other problems, she didnt magically turn into a nun.
nice to hear people talking about all parts of life
