(Talking Points Memo)   Polls show Chris Christie (R) now running 21 points behind Hillary Clinton (D) in hypothetical 2016 match up. If you take out the 47% voting for Clinton no matter what those are actually fantastic numbers   (talkingpointsmemo.com) divider line 114

Eh. I think that number's probably about 47% higher.

Don't both the GOP and Democrats both rely on 47% of the vote and each election is really only decided by that middle 6%?

I can't picture Christie running ANYWHERE.

It's a lot more complicated than that. Differential turnout rates are hugely important, and there are far more swing voters than most people imagine (they just tend not swing together because "swing voters" do not have uniform political views any more than anyone else does).

If 47% of the electorate are casting two votes, voter fraud is even more rampant than expected.

We need to pass a new law that mandates voters have documentation proving that they are a member of the 53%.

Oh, there's something even better.  You see, there's this recent scandal you probably haven't heard of, but her husband, an ex-president, had an affair!  And she stayed with him!  So all we gotta' do now is start making a huge deal out of this obscure and definitely recent scandal.  Once we've made sure everyone has heard about it, Hillary's credibility will be destroyed and the GOP will surely win in a landslide.  A landslide!

That is a really weird angle they're taking presently.

Yeah.  I don't remember who it was, but I loved the idea that someone floated of that one Congresswoman who is a female, minority, disabled veteran running for president.  I know absolutely nothing about her, except that it would be ***AWESOME*** trying to watch the GOP attack her.

That was Tami Duckworth, and yeah, they even attacked her as she was running.

Joe "Deadbeat Dad" Walsh said she wasn't a hero because heroes don't talk about their service.

After nearly a quarter century of trying to bring down Hillary Clinton, the GOP still isn't anywhere near her. What are they going to do in 2016? There's nothing left to be said. They've using every weapon in their arsenal multiple times and nothing worked.

Stop pushing Clinton down our throats. Leftists that had a clue didn't want her in 2008, and we sure as hell don't want her now. (not that Obama turned out much better)

Convince Elizabeth Warren to run if you want to go with the whole woman-gimmick. We don't need another dirty Washington crony.

Some other hypothetical match-ups:

Mr. Christie, maker of good cookies, vs. Hillary Clinton, winner Mr. Christie by 45%

Mr. Crispy Bacon, vs. Hillary Clinton, winner Crispy Bacon by 63%

Bob Dole versus Dole Bananas, winner Dole Bananas by 1%

Newt Gingrich vs. Ned the Newt, winner Ned the Newt by 98.9%

Jesus vs. Santa Claus, winner Santa Claus by 8%

Hoverrounding for President? Roombaing for President has more zing to it, but we'll have to start applying ethics to robots at some point and Roomba #200-HKV-538-N vs RNC is a landmark case just waiting to happen.

MFAWG: Really, what's going to happen when she doesn't run? Will their be epic LULZ as the Noise Machine grinds to a halt after scattering parts far and wide?

She's running. She's already locking down major donors and support from groups that any Dem president needs backing from. Her camp wouldn't be going through that trouble if she was still thinking it over. There isn't going to be a Sarah Palin clown bus tour moment of indecision with Clinton. Although it would be hilarious to watch the GOP'ers completely spun out trying to figure out how to attack a Dem front runner who isn't Hillary Clinton.

If you fail a test with a 59%, thefault is shared by all 41% of missed points, not just the last question you missed.

The pool of voters churns, people do change parties, many voters are mostly single issue (many gays might vote republican a decade after the GOP stops fighting gay marriage for instance) and turnout changes over time.

Voting does matter. It is mental midgetry to suggest otherwise. I really tire of hearing it.

Please, I've seen people on here discussing how it would garner more women independents and possibly even GOP converts. It'd be the first woman president, a very big deal.

Obama, as the first black president, gained 95% of the black vote in 2008 in exit polls. The highest for any democrat candidate ever. If you want to ignore political realities and strategy, fine.

I hope that changes one day. Competition between sane candidates is a good thing.
