Most of the stuff you used to laugh about the coast to coast set about with big brother monitoring you is now proven to be true.

As far as Im concerned the "trust the establishment govt approved status quo" set are the mentally ill insane ones.

The spookiest call was the Area 51 worker who called in, talking about how the aliens were interdimensional beings, and then his phone link went dead.

Best Art Bell impression is done by Phil Hendrie. Funny and dead on. Best subscription money I have ever spent.

I used to listen to Coast to Coast when I worked midnight shifts back in the 90's, it was damn entertaining stuff.  While I haven't heard the show in years, I always suspected it went full on nutballs post 9/11. (It was always nutballs.) I see I was not wrong.

ItchyMcDoogle: Used to LOVE Coast to Coast. Bell was great and the early Norry years were decent. Between the conspiracy and nutball stuff there would be a caller that would really hit a good note on something and freak you out.

Too bad no one has picked up that concept on radio with a better host..Just unfiltered callers talking about spooky stuff.

The Halloween show Ghost to Ghost was the shiat.

ghettodwarf: used to work in radio a lifetime ago.  I actually know John B Wells from his VO work.  At one time he was the voice in the promos for pretty much every Jacor (which eventually turned into Clear Channel) Rock radio station in the country.  The man made an ass-ton of money just for having a kick-ass voice.  He was always a little nutty too.

A little fun fact: Oliver Stone Loved John, if you watch the movie "Talk Radio" (When I worked in radio I always considered it a bit of a horror movie) John voices all the commercials, when they go to commercial break, you can hear his voice as Eric Bogosian takes off his headphones.  He (John) also played a newscaster in JFK.

/Lots of CSB

I worked with John in radio.  He's a supreme intellect and was a perfect compliment to the show.  His webcast should be quite interesting.

oldtaku: It's a weird thing to say but, I liked Art because he (mostly) kept some distance and critical thinking. He'd have some nutball on the show and he'd be saying things like "How interesting." "Wouldn't it be strange if this were true!"  And if you were paying attention you'd notice he usually kept from actually endorsing or affirming the reality of whatever whackass thing was being claimed and asked some probing questions.

The rest of the hosts are all super credulous gits who lob breathless softballs at the guests and are seemingly willing to believe anything and everything. Boring and stupid.

Yeah, I remember someone talking to him (might've been Hoagland or something) about supposed artificial/manufatured items found in rover images on Mars.  He had some pictures, and Art actually said something like, "Yeah, I keep looking but .. I see rocks."

Noory would have just been going "YEP!  OH WOW!  AMAZING!" for hours.

No, those demographics merged a while back.  Half the crap that the Tea Party types rant about is stuff that I first heard on C2C in the '90s.

And usenet groups, those were some fun reads working the late shift in the campus computer lab.

JohnBigBootay: Ctoc is where I learned Bigfoot smells like shiat. Really enjoyed father Malachi and ancient aliens and of course, Mel's hole.

The Malachi Martin shows are awesome, and still bear re-listening. Of course, I grew up with a copy of his book The Jesuits on my coffee table, so I may not be a normal person ...

Art Bell's almost uncanny ability to jump head-first 100% into any nutball story that callers would bring up were what made his show awesome.  Not an ounce of incredulousness anywhere in his entire body.

I'm reading a book on the US MiG squadron, and there was some very odd stuff going on there, just not what you think. For example, there was a guy in charge of maintaining the Soviet jets named Weird Harold who dressed up in women's clothing on the job, greeted an Admiral visiting from the Navy by running out wearing nothing but combat boots, a belt, and his cover, and he also would initiate new pilots with a variation of the old dick in a box joke. Apparently he was just too good at keeping foreign jets with sketchy documentation on limited replacement parts flying, so they had to overlook the weirdness.

It's also kind of funny, because they used Stealth fighter to help pay for the facilities for the MiGs, but at the same time the MiGs acted as a cover story for the F-117 pilots. A lot of pilots were trained against the MiGs as part of Red Flag, with those engagements being kept classified, so the MiGs became a really badly kept secret, so when the pilots said they were doing secret stuff at Tonopah, everyone just gave it a wink and a nod and assumed they were piloting MiGs.

I enjoyed John B. on C2C.  Nice contrast from Noory's nice guy act.  John used to also sprinkle in music trivia and history that was always quite interesting.
