I was 9 rows from the ice, right over the net.  In person it was sicker than this video can do justice.  Easily the best move i've seen in person.

Alright, yeah, sweet goal.

FTA: The NHL's on an Olympic break, but here's a hockey highlight to tide you over.

That statement makes no sense.

/why the f*ck is all the USA opening round coverage on NBCSN?  Is bullsh*t!

Eh, just another in a long wave of douchebag me-first thuggery. He's showboating and disrespecting the game, his opponents, and old-time hockey. It really doesn't take any skill to do that. If you can't get it done with a straight up snap-shot, you don't really have any skills worth talking about. Learn the fundamentals and then get back to me son.

"Hey! Try not to shoot that puck up my pooper!" Yeah! But check out this guy - he says, "I'll shoot the puck anywhere I want. And if that happens to be in your pooper, so be it!" Stu-mongi!"

why wouldn't it count?  completely legal per the rules.  as long as it doesn't cross the goal line and pull it back and it stays in motion, it is legal.

Yeah, real basketball players would shoot lay-ups during the slam-dunk competition.

The precise wording is "The puck must be kept in motion towards the opponent's goal line and once it is shot, the play shall be considered complete."

In interpreting this, the emphasis seems to be on "kept in motion" and less on "towards the opponent's goal line". The 360 move is specifically mentioned as being OK.

It's not entirely clear how this would be ruled; I would very strongly suspect, though, that it would be treated like the 360 move and allowed.

It would count.  The rules have been interpreted after several "trick" shots attempts in the shootout/penalty shot to mean "as long as either the puck or the skater maintains continuous forward motion".  This lets moves like the "spin-o-rama" (where the puck would be moving away from the goal during the spin part) and the "Forsberg" (where the skater can stop but the puck continues forward) be legal, but prevents moves like "stopping to tee up a slapshot" or "skating to the low corner then back out to the high slot to get a better angle on the goalie".

Um. Not at all. He faked the between the legs move (and the move is most certainly not Hertl's), froze the goalie and then went backhand.

Go back and take another (closer) look...
