It was still douchebaggy of him to back out of the Slopestyle at the last minute and prevent another contender from going in.

BUT good on him for this.

So make a wish sent a kid to Sochi?  Maybe whatever is in the water over there will magically cure him.

/if it doesn't finish him off, that is

Yeah....cure him of having eye sight

What are the odds that Bob Costs will soon be seen with sunglasses and a seeing eye dog.

I don't know why we're upset with Sochi for this. Thank you for removing Bob Costas from the air, Russia!

That just read like a reporter half patting himself on the back and half forgetting all the shiatty stuff White does/did. I applaud White for meeting and being nice to his fans, but he's done some shiatty primadonna stuff.

Oh, no, he is exactly as douchebaggy as he's been made out to be lately, but he does a nice thing every once in a while. They are not mutually exclusive.

Ah well back to the x-games where as long as he doesn't fall he will win gold.

$15 million a year to ride a snowboard? OK, he's the best ever, but is that really worth $15 million a year?

I'm taking the books and baseballs away from my kids, and handing them a snowboard.

That was the most poorly written article I've seen today..

This is America. If you win like Micheal Phelps you can be as big a douchebag as you want. You failed us yesterday Mr. White, so no more douchebaggins for you.

About an hour before White competed, I met a freckle-faced, St. Louis kid with a stars-and-stripes beanie and a little miniature flag named Ben Hughes...

That's farked up.  Why would you name your flag "Ben Hughes"?

Also, shiat article.  You'd think with the collapse of newspapers and the amount of kids STILL going to journalism school there'd be a glut of competent writers.

Maybe the kid had a wooden leg named Smith too.

It's not like I'm watching the Winter Olympics - I'm not Canadian or anything. I'm just hoping NFL places can follow suit and he'll go away from SNF.

I don't know, is going around acting like other people REALLY worth 10s of millions of dollars? Probably not, but that's what the going rate is. Shaun White is HIGHLY recognizable, even to people who don't follow snowboarding. He has his own video game, clothing line, & sponsorship deals. He doesn't get paid to ride a snowboard. He gets paid to be Shaun White & it doesn't matter if you approve or not.

I would bet that Tony Hawk laughs at Shaun White's puny income.

Tony Hawk doesn't come off as such a douchebag either. Mind you I don't really pay attention to either of their pastimes.

Not really, now that he doesn't have the clown hair.

So the author set out to write a piece on what a douchebag Shaun White is, because White needs to be "put back in place". And the correct time to do that is during the competition.

He finds a 10-year-old kid and a fangirl who are attending the Olympics as fulfillment of their wish to see White compete. They are thrilled to be there. they have no sense of being shorted by not getting personal time from the athlete right there at the venue.

Author gets indignant on their behalf, and complains to the media liaison that this must not stand! White's dealing with terrible course conditions and in the process of failing to medal in the event he was favored to win. He is unaware of the presence of these two fans within the crowd, and has other things on his mind, such as actually competing - his reason for being there.

Author considers chucking kid over the barrier at White to force the issue, but is prevented from this by White not being a douchebag.

Now, there is no way to tell whether this was spontaneous coolness on White's part, because he was put in a position of "if you don't fist bump this kid, you will be derided in Author's article as a person who hurt a Make-a-Wish kid's feelings". Maybe he would have done it anyway, but as it actually played out, he was forced into the act. And Author proudly takes credit for creating this magic moment.

Shaun White may not be a douchebag, but Mike Wise is.

I can't tell if I'm just tired or that article was poorly written
