Not sure if it's working as intended or not. I'm guessing Laura Troth doesn't identify as African-American or Latina. Could be wrong though.

No.  Women are only worth 3/5ths of a vote.  Geez, read the bible once in a while, it's all explained in there.

I've spewed my share of bile at the CA DMV, but at least you can accomplish your mission.  I gave up on the Texas DPS after the number of WTF's reached critical mass.  Seriously, I think they expect you to prostrate yourself on the ground and swear Jesus and Texas as your savior.

So, instead of getting a Texas license, I renewed my CA driver's license online.  I currently have a CA license with a Texas address.  Cars still have CA plates.

Have I said fark Texas, yet.

You Cannot Drive a Car
You Cannot Use a Credit Card
You Cannot Get on a Commercial Plane
You Cannot Use a Bank
You Cannot Attend the NAACP Protest, Protesting the NC Voter ID Law
You Cannot Apply for Social Security

Statistically likely to vote Democrat, anyway. Plenty of idiots still vote against their own interests to support em. They can be disenfranchised because the temporarily embarrassed millionaires will just blame something one else.

Texas, by far, is the farking worse.  Now, Harris county was excellent on getting my license plates when I moved down here.  Was in and out in like 15 minutes with the plates.  The department of public safety to get the drivers license?  Five and a half hours.

And how many of those require that the ID be an exact match? In Texas if your voter registration uses your middle initial and your ID spells out your middle name or does not list your middle initial at all, no voting for you. Also the woman in the article is 80 years old, and no longer drives? May not travel by airplane, etc. Also how many of your listed items are protected rights?

Nearly the entire elderly ladies Sunday School class has turned from being in favor of voter ID ("Who doesn't have a license anyway?  Everyone's got a picture ID!") to hating voter ID laws with the power of a thousand exploding suns.

The reason: one of them lost her driver's license - which was her form of voter ID.  Coincidentally, being as old as she is, over time she has also managed to lose her birth certificate.

To renew said license, she first went down to the DMV, thinking they'd just print her off a new one.  No dice, they said she need to hand them a BC first.

So she goes off to the health department.  Which refuses to hand her a copy of her BC because it no longer matches her legal (married) name.  They send her to the state department of vital records - an hour and a half drive away.  Which, not having a license, means she has to hitch a ride from one of the other ladies in her class.

The department of vital records says they can't help her right away - seems there's a problem because her original BC had her middle name, which isn't on her marriage license or her records from the DMV.  So they send her back home to get a copy of ... something ... and she hitches another ride back.  At which point they say that piece of paper needs a notary ... repeat again, needs a stamp ... repeat again, she needs another document.

So far, she's up to a trip to the DMV, the health department, three trips to the state office, nine hours of driving ... and she still doesn't have another driver's license.

Here is the problem specifically to Texass:
By law, your DL has your fist, middle and last name.
Married women have their maiden name put as their middle name on their DL.
So, a woman's DL will never match any sort of paperwork exactly, so a poll worker can 'use their discretion' to determine if the DL is a usable match.

PS: there have been 10 convictions of in person voter fraud in the entire country for the past 13 years.
I guess you like big government when it is against groups you don't like.

It clearly said that they plan to protest in a peaceful and non-violent manner. So why would they get arrested for exercising thir First Admendment? Cough--Rosa Parks- cough

In Texas at least failure to identify yourself can be considered a crime as well:

see Texas Title 8 Sec. 38.02. FAILURE TO IDENTIFY. (a) A person commits an offense if he intentionally refuses to give his name, residence address, or date of birth to a peace officer who has lawfully arrested the person and requested the information.

Now you may be able to beat the rap if the arrest is not lawful, but it will probably cost you at least one night in jail and some significant legal fees.

Funny thing, cars don't actually require an ID in order for you to start them or drive them.
Not sure about where you live, but I've been asked to show ID in order to pay with a credit card exactly once in the last 20 years I've been using credit cards.
You could definitely attend the protest, they were just telling people to bring an ID to be safe.

It sounds like the NAACP is a bit inexperienced in this area and could use your advice on dealing with police during political protests. You should offer to give a lecture.
