I thought it was funny.
And I even like weed.

I think we have an explanation.

Oh, Microbe, once again you are making so little sense.

While all those things you described are truly horrible they are going to happen with or without our imperialist actions. So following your logic, we shouldnt have had any invasion in Europe and just let Hitler continue on his conquest because military action is too horrible?

I seriously doubt you would say that is agreeable.

First off flame-bait: I have done my time with the 82D. I have LED those great men and yes, assclown, I have had to bring a folded flag to a crying wife and had to help explain to his three kids why daddy isn't coming home so blow me. Walk a mile in my shoes before you take judgment, bub. This is a damn forum, so lighten up.

Secondly, you are putting an unfortunate generalization on an individual you think you know through your abundant research and "deep thoughts". Pseudo-intellectuals piss me off. I seriously wish we lived in the utopian society you live in where words can fix the ills of the world. I sincerely do. We don't. So until we do we need people with guns because the boogieman is real and he doesn't like you much despite your elevated conscious.

Feel better?

ok, i'm not gonna read the transcript....

just a coupla questions here:

1) did we explain the use of apostrophes to the poster?
2) did we explain that grammar errors in a headline calling somebody an idiot makes the poster seem like an idiot?

Second of all, all of your suggestions are NO WHERE near as effective as what these people did.

Effective in what way? People who disagreed with the war already weren't affected. Those on the fence, so to speak, probably saw this on the news and thought of them as a bunch of vandals and idiots. (I know I did.) Those on the side of the war can point to this group and say, "Look! The anti-war folks are a bunch of extremist lunatic criminals!"

Exactly how did this help the anti-war effort?

Here's my 2 cents:

War is an ugly thing. I think we can all agree. But when your country's military is cast out onto the battlefield without any say in the matter, and without the citizens' say in the matter, I would say that it is best - out of respect and compassion for those young men and women that have to do their duty and fight for their lives in the horrors of war previously mentioned - to support them and stand by their side. These are brave people who are answering their country's call without dissent.

When all they hear from home is a bunch of whining and biatching from everybody, their morale decreases. What good does that do us? We are still in the war whether or not we agree that we should be. Being angry at the Bush administration and the like is a separate issue. Be mad if you want, call him names like dumbya (I made that one up) but support our troops so they can feel proud when they do their job. Thank you.

I'd say it was extremely effect, in that the entire world was and still is talking about it. Did you hear about the protest held this past weekend in my city? No? Do you see any difference?

I see the fine as an example set down by the courts saying "This is not ok to deface a national monument". If the maximum fine was $100 and a night in jail for something like this we would see it everywhere.

Think about something you own that is very valuable. Lets say your car (if you have one). Now every day I paint "Asshat" on the hood of your car. If my fine for doing this is $100 and a night in jail I will probably do it every day for the rest of your life just to keep reminding you that you are an asshat.

2004-01-30 02:04:17 PM
wyliedog, since you have a bone to pick, I will share.

War, in my opinion, is a defensive strategy only. In defense of homeland soil. In WWII, we wouldn't have gotten into the war had the Japanese not bombed Pearl Harbor. HOMELAND SOIL. In which case I'm with Churchill, "walk tall and carry a big stick".

If someone attacks us, take everything we have and hit them so hard they never even CONSIDER it again. And let them be a example to the rest. Thus, the Taliban got what they deserved. I hope they fark OBL up so bad that anyone who even ever thought of terrorising the US does a double take.

I agree with the Geneva Accords that Germany's biggest war crime was being an unprovoked aggressor.

You see, I actually believe in deterence. Make it not worthwhile for them to attack us, because it will mean their iminent and swift demise.

But if the don't attack us, well, we have no beef with them. War is only a LAST RESORT and only for DEFENSE.

Sorry about the Nicholson impression, all. Didn't realy want to open up like that on a forum. Microbe's assumptions were bogus, had to be done. I guess that happens when you have no where else to go in a poorly worded argument. Kinda' desperate.

This wasn't really worth it because 1.) The war still occured and B.) Australia got involved.

If you are going to protest, make sure it is going to make at least make a difference to someone. I mean, really... who would be inspired by this? What were they hoping to accomplish?

2004-01-30 02:11:30 PM
EatHam: I'm against hippies. Since hippies seem to be all for causing destruction of property while protesting, I will protest by heaving cinder blocks through the windows of your house, entering it, and taking a shiat in the middle of your floor. It is my right to do so, as it is civil disobedience.

that's a pretty huge leap you took there buddy.

"Support the Troops" is the biggest piece of propaganda released in the past 3 years. In the time since it's release and echoed chanting, no where have I seen or heard anyone say anything negative about the individuals fighting the wars of our nation. The dissidents are addressing the administration's use of our very skilled and honorable military. To suggest that a nation's attention should be focused on praising the military's employees and not on those who weild that might force is completely insane.

2004-01-30 02:18:11 PM
Damn, the way you liberals go on about how it's ok to destroy property in order to make a political statement makes you all sound like a bunch of savage animals. I suppose you are ok with Al Qaeda destroying the WTC to make their political statement.

2004-01-30 02:18:48 PM
Well this thread has gone to shiat. Now all the flametard-come-lately's (note use of apostrophe) dive into a thread calling someone out on their service record (how the hell can you justify that, anyway?) see someone commenting on their post. Ooooh, feel the rush boys and girls!

Microbe, my friend, you had a decent agrument building until your comment right before challenging someone else's service record. Then you and the rest of the goons staring vacantly at your monitor had something to comment about in an attempt to be hip and cool.

Take care all. Support your troops. Shave a hippie.

Off the cuff just to stir the pot:

This speaks for itself: "If I were president tomorrow, the first thing I would do is pick up the phone and call the only person who has had any kind of success in bringing the Palestinians and the Israelis together in the last 25 years I'd call Bill Clinton and ask him to represent me in the peace process." --Howard Dean, on what he would do were he (no, seriously) president tomorrow

If they had just held a rally in the park, would be talking about this? Would you even know it happened. Hell, the biggest protest in the entire history of the world happened last year, do you know where, when and why?

Dude, but we're talking about the ACT, not the MESSAGE. Their message, "NO WAR", has barely been addressed at all in this thread. It's lost, it's gone. It's an ineffective protest, largely due to the criminal act involved. They've negated everything but the controversy over the fine itself. What about the war? Who's talking about that?

As stated before (by someone else), the desegregation sit-ins were BREAKING THE LAW!

Yes, that was me. Thanks for reading my posts! And the point being made there was that they were peacefully violating a law felt by many to be unjust in protest of said law and that they were willing to go to jail on this point of principle. The criminals in Australia broke a just law, supported by virtually everyone, to protest something completely unrelated to the illegal activity in question, or to the structure being vandalized. To me there's a clear difference.

2004-01-30 02:25:56 PM
I commend you, HippiesTasteLikeChicken. You hearken to a bygone era. A simpler time, when wars were justified by working men who saw clearly the biggest threat to their simple existence was the decay of society caused by the thoughts of long-haired intellectuals.

Thank you for focusing on this great threat, and defeating them. Monuments shall someday be built in your honor.

Go forth, and keep the fight.

Oh yeah? Says who? When we are in the middle of battle? Scratching your balls and grumbling about the war does nothing to stop it when the wheels are turning. "No war" protests are certainly focused on the troops. What happened when the troops came home from Vietnam? Peaceful, "No war" crowds spit on them. That is completely insane, and it's that idealogy that exists today.

Yeah...I remember how peaceful it was during Clinton's term. Seeing Palestinians and Israelis drop their weapons and holding arm to arm during Clinton's 8 year tenure. Amazing as soon as his term was over, it all started again. Its all Bush's fault.

"I suppose you are ok with Al Qaeda destroying the WTC to make their political statement."

Now THERE was a statement. People are still talking about it.

You nailed it there, ATP.

That "make a statement" shiat sounds like marvelous rationale for suicide bombing, too.

You know I'd be laughing if weren't so sad how goddamned naive you are...

As for civil disobedience: I don't believe terrorism is an answer, but pranks are great...it's not like they couldn't wash the shiat off the farking opera house, ya know?

Maybe someone should graffiti the WHITE HOUSE...now that'd be a feat.
