darkjezter: Anybody remember Zima?  It was a clear alcopop beverage made by Coors brewing company during the clear beverage craze of the 1990s.  It was marketed as a "manly alternative" to wine coolers for men who didn't like the taste of beer.  It was very successful for its first year, but to Coors' horror most of its' drinkers were 20-something women.  Then it became the butt of jokes by comedians by David Letterman who portrayed it as a sissy drink for girly men.  Coors stopped advertising it after that, but surprisingly it remained on store shelves for a decade before they quietly stopped selling it domestically.  Apparently you can still get it in Japan.

I never tried it because I was like 14 years old when it came out (I didn't have my first drink until I was 19. Late bloomer, I know).  But I've heard it was farking gross.

20 year cycle. right on schedule.

In the 90s, everyone was wearing bell-bottoms and such from the 70s.

If you look at the hipster trends right now, its a lot of stuff from the late 80s and early 90s (bright/neon colors, plastic accessories, heavy electrionc/synth-based music, etc)

CapnPlaty: deanis:

Fark Surge... as a former Coca Cola bottling employee, that shiat was a biatch to make. Dumping over a thousand pounds of maltodextrin per hour of production run, I was quite happy when they stopped making it.

I do miss Citra though.

Pissed at Coke for ending production on this:

Best diet soda EVER.

I loved it and of course they discontinued it. Just like Lays did with my all-time favorite potato chip:

Well, I (for one) did Not See that coming...

www.bluedogbeverages.com

(And yes, despite the Godwin-invoking name, supposedly this stuff is the closest stuff to Crystal Pepsi that's been around since...well...Crystal Pepsi)

/wishes they'd bring back Josta Cola
//wishes even more that they'd bring back the ORIGINAL Jolt
///and still wishes even more that RC Draft Cola would return to the shelves--which was NOT the same as regular RC, was a wonderful thing, it was

Id like it if Crystal Pepsi came back, but Id farking love it if Surge came back.

If Coke and Pepsi have no desire to bring either back they should lease out the rights to Soda Stream where there is SOME method of getting them.

Hawnkee: WinoRhino: Wendy's Chili: WHAR PEPSI KONA? WHA?

PEPSI KONA?!?!

This thread has informed me of a great many things I have never heard of.

It was actually quite awesome (IMO). At one point, the only place I could find it was at a 7-11 in Philadelphia. I'd buy a couple six-packs and take back home with me. I got all misty when they stopped selling it.

HEAR HEAR!  Kona was the only experimental soda I actually liked. I have a bad feeling it was in large part due to the double-shot of caffeine I suspect came with coffee-flavored cola being badly needed by my 20-year-old overworked self... but damn if that stuff wasn't good.  Rich.  Still miss it.

It was really polarizing though.  If you admitted to liking Crystal Pepsi, for example, people would just agree or disagree.  If you liked Kona, either people agreed or they looked at you like you had just admitted to incest or cannibalism.  I never really could figure out why.

I think I'm gonna go toss back a Pepsi Throwback now...

Never heard of it. What flavor was it and when was it available?

kdawg7736 Never heard of it. What flavor was it and when was it available?

'88. 7-Up Gold. It was originally a Dr. Pepper flavor, sorta like how the Buick Riviera was originally gonna be a Cadillac...

No wonder I have not heard of it. I was a toddler when this stuff was out (born in 1985). The only thing I really know from that time period is ALF, Hair Bands, and vintage cartoons.
